I bought my Acura MDX sport model new in 2007. My biggest complaint was that 3 of the struts failed after 36,000 miles and the forth was leaking. Naturally the car was out of warranty (4 years). I suspect they started to fail around 20,000 miles because the car made a weird sound when it hit a bump. the car was religiously maintained by the dealership and I relied upon them noticing any problems (big mistake), but they did notice it after the warranty expired. Also when the car was filled up with gasoline, you could hear it swishing in the tank. Either they don't have baffles in the tank design or the gas tank was defective. In case your interested, the replacement cost for one front strut is $1300.00. A word to the wise, if you purchase an MDX get an extended warranty and have it check out by and independent garage.

Purchased a prewowned 2007 MDX with 17K miles. The car drives great. It is a smooth, comfortable ride. It takes some getting use to if you are going from a car to an SUV. It is a bigger vechile and not as easy to park. I feel as though there are more blind spots. On the flip side, the car is much more roomy and the trunk and third row have been great for trips. I would highly recommend. The newer models may have fixed blindspots. I imagine this car only improves with newer models. I would purchase another.

Acura letdown: How my MDX left me in shock

I purchased a 2007 MDX and, until, last week felt good about my vehicle. It has never "wowed" me as some of my previous Acuras had, but it was ok. I never felt it was quite worth the sticker price, but Acura had never let me down - until now. I am currently in a state of shock and dismay after learning last week that the clunking sound coming form my right front end is a defective strut. The vehicle does have 101k miles on it so strut replacement did not seem unreasonable. I also was told that my rear struts are "leaking" and need to be replaced. The shock and dismay occurred when I was told by my nice service advisor that the 2007-2013 MDXs with the active dampening suspension require "specialized" electronic struts. Replacing all four will run about $4200. That's right - over four grand for strut replacement!!! No OEM options either. I was and still am in shock, that is almost 10% of purchase price. I then asked what would the cost be to replace all four struts if my car were a 2006 MDX w/o that particular suspension system. He looked it up and quoted me $1650. Now, that is a reasonable and customary cost. What an unbelievable difference in cost of ownership. Also, I could not get a any answer to my questions about disconnecting the active suspension and putting regular, traditional, non electronic struts on the vehicle. I am between a rock and a hard spot. I have owned 6 Acuras, have regularly recommended them to family and friends. I never will again. I really feel duped and taken by this atricious pricing, and, what is clearly a drastically over engineered suspension system and poor design decision by Acura that has rendered the MDX is a ticking time bomb for owners. If you have one of these MDXs, GET RID OF IT before you are stuck with this cost. DON"T BUY USED unless you have a mechanic certify the struts have been replaced recently. I have been a loyal Acura owner, I think they need to reprice these replacements quickly as there are a lot of 2007-2013 MDXs on the road, and, along with incensing their owner community who are going to be stuck with outrageous repair bills, they are truly setting themselves up for severe damage to their brand. They have with me. I feel deceived. STAY AWAY from 2007-2013 MDX or risk a second mortgage to keep it running.

I traded my fully loaded 04 MDX (Nav and DVD) for the 07 MDX 3 months ago and have driven +3k miles. The 07 MDX is a nice blend of the RL’s and MDX’s best features. Some believe not having a touch screen navigation is a down grade or worse than before. To me, this is absolutely not the case and more about people not understanding the system. Unlike center dash systems, the screen is on the top of the dash which greatly minimizes taking your eyes off the road. Of course, in this position it cannot be easily touched (so no touch screen). Once you get familiar with the control knob, it is quite easy to use. Upon learning the voice commands, just tell the system what to do…so why would it need to be touched? The stereo is awesome. I purchased the Tech and Sport model and believe there is a package upgrade (so I do not know about the base system). There is a PLII mode available for the XM radio which allows for 5.1 sound. The sound quality is absolutely amazing and I still find myself shaking my head and saying wow. All the functions on the radio are voice activated. If you want to change the station, just tell it. Want to listen to the channel 71 (jazz), just say “XM 71”. Other advantages over the 2004 MDX included a 120 VAC power outlet, auto closing the rear door (no blown out ear drums from closing), and the blue tooth system. Some have complained about there not being a luggage rack but frankly in my 3 years with my 04 MDX I never used it. The luggage rack causes wind noise and reduces fuel efficiency so why make it a standard option. If you use the rack, install it as an option just like a towing hitch. The best part of the 2007 is the handling. Going around corners is a blast. I read some people complaining about the ride (not soft enough) and I thought my goodness they are nuts. Awesome ride, nothing that I test was better. Now, I do not know why Acura didn’t install the auto rearview mirror. But honestly with the rear tinted windows, I have never had to change the mirror when cars were behind me so I do not miss this feature. Here’s my final thought. My brother owns a Toyota Sequoia, my buddies drive a BMW X-5, Lexus 330 and Chevy Tahoe, and my sister drives a ML Mercedes (always in the shop) and whenever we go anywhere who’s rig does everyone want to take...the MDX.

Very nice looking, no wind noise, comfortable, all power with navigation. Acura stopped using OnStar for the new models, I miss it. Good traction with AWD and stability control is a plus. Not great on gas mileage and is a bit heavy power wise. Seats 7 comfortably, rear seat reclines slightly. Big plus, rear air and heated seats. DVD player makes it a nice ride.

As a loyal BMW customer and previous owner of a 2002 X5, the MDX had big shoes that it would have to fill. Frequently I have needs for 5 to 6 passengers (1 or 2 of which are usually kids) and the 3rd row comes in quite handy for such times. I am quite impressed with the road manners of the MDX and would say that it handles as well as my X5 did. Steering is precise and it corners with confidence with the sport package equipped model. Seating is comfotable and provides all with plenty of space. The navigation system is first class and user friendly, however, the touch screen in my wife´s Acura TL is even better. The rear seat DVD entertainment package is great for keeping the little ones occupied without hearing, "are we there yet?". The styling of the previous model was unimpressive and bland to me, but this one is bold and masculine, especially with the sport package rims and sport running boards. Acura has done a great job and I find this to be a great compliment to our 2004 Acura TL and 2006 BMW 330i.

I traded my Mercedes E500 2003 for an ACURA MDX 2007............... (The BENZ kept breaking down),Mercedes had to put in a new transmission at 35k,a new Master brake cylinder at 37k,and all kinds of other issues,,what ever happened to MERCEDES-BENZ???,expensive JUNK! I test drove almost every SUV out there,ML350,RX350,BMWX5,4RUNNER,H3,etc and the ACURA MDX was the best by far!,(the BMW X5 was nice to but for almost 20k more! I did not think it was worth it) My wife ADORES the ACURA we will be driving it to Florida from NYC this year and putting her to the test,(the car not my wife, she already passed the test!). and in the RAIN it handles like a dream,LET IT SNOW!!! Check out the BOOK VALUE and the DEPRECIATION FACTOR in 3 years that is where its at!
