I read every review I could find before I pulled the trigger on a used 2010 2LT with 12 ticks on the clock. I've owned it about 3 months now. As a lot of other buyers I came to know this car after renting one on a business trip. You'll find about 95% of the used ones on the market are former rentals. Most complaints from other reviewers are justified but some of the reviews are just plain unfair. Generally speaking, the complaints are: small (yes), uncomfortable (somewhat), made from the cheapest materials (yes, especially the interior), bad handling (compared to a Corvette, yes), underpowered (4 cyl, yes), bad fuel economy (compared to what?), bad visibility (yes), not a solid feeling car (sure isn't), resale value (don't buy it new), overall bad quality (probably), and styling (an opinion at best). Styling is usually why people buy or don't buy this car. I bought it so there's one opinion on that! All of the other stuff should have been obvious to the buyers who totally trash this car after buying it. From this I must assume these buyers are lacking in their buying knowledge and/or experience. I bought this car because above all I think it's exterior design is awesome. It is a totally functional car in that you can carry 4 people reasonably comfortably or a good bit of cargo with the fold flat rear seats. If you do load the car up with people or cargo don't try the hills in the passing lane or depend on a quick stop. My criteria was a car with a personality (styling) that I could carry my dog (or cargo)in and still get reasonable fuel economy. This car does all this admirably. I was well aware of the complaints beforehand. Of all of them, poor fuel economy is unfounded. Although I lost about 5 mpg from my trade, I'm still getting 28/32 with the 2.4 engine. The interior is ergonomically lacking but not unbearable. Remember, the styling of this thing comes from a 1949 Suburban. Lets do a review on that tank! Anyway, the dog loves it and so far I do also. As a cummuter I rarely have a chance to enjoy "performance" so average performance and handling is fine - and although the car isn't overly comfortable it isn't painful either. The only reason I wouldn't recommend it to a friend is that I worry about its reliability. I've spent many years avoiding GM like the plague and probably should be still. Given the country's current economic/job situation the whole "buy American" thing has hit home with me but in the end it is what it is - a cheaply built, stylish and functional GM product. Reliability remains to be seen - he says with fingers crossed! If you buy it - enjoy it. It is a fun ride if you don't expect sports car performance out of it.

I have had my car for three months and absolutely love it!!! I last had a Saturn and it was hard for me to get out of the car (I have knee problems). The HHR is perfect for me....I have the driver's seat raised to the highest level and it is perfect for seeing out the windshield. It also makes it great for getting in and out of the car without causing knee pain. I have been getting between 27 to 30 mph....depending whether it is city or highway driving. It has a lot of room inside for passengers and packages and it rides smoothly. Like I said before...I love it!!!!!

I've had my 2010 HHR for about 1.5 years and still love it. Yes there are some issues with blind spots, but you get used to them after a few days. The engine has a lot of get up and go and when passing someone or going up a hill it sounds like an angry bee but has no issue with power, even when the AC is on. The heat in winter will about run you out if turned on high temp. AC in summer is Ice cold. It is easy to drive and can zip right into parking spaces. When sitting inside it feels so much bigger then it really is. I really like the fold down back seat and have used it to haul larger things several times. Only issue that I had with it came after about 8 months after I got it, the ignition wouldn't turn to off position to turn off the engine and remove key. Had to remove the fuel injectors fuse and unplug the battery to shut car off. I had received a letter from GM a week before that to advise of issue with ignition getting stuck. I took it to dealer and within an hour it was fixed and for free. Handles pretty good on snow and ice too, however took me a while to get used to the traction control trying to compensate for skid. Over all I think this is a very good and reliable car that gets pretty good gas mileage when using regular gas and not so good mileage on E85, but that is normal for all cars using E85.

The Power Drivers seat is a must have. I am a shortie and he is tall. I can actually see over the top of the steering wheel! Very comfortable to drive & easy to park.

Someone hit a mini-van with a shrink ray!

That's what my son said about it when I brought it home - and I think he just about hit it. It has a lot of positive features of a minivan (cargo and passenger room, comfort) in a smaller size which is easier to maneuver and park. This car has features I thought I'd never find together: fun looking, fun to drive, manual transmission, seats 5 with no body's knees in their chest, cargo space (enough for most everyday needs), good gas mileage, and very affordable (got a great deal when all the dealers were desperate). I've owned this car for a year and so far no problems. My one complaint is the ergonomics could be better. The visibility is a bit of an issue. (Although I've never seen windows defrost so fast which I think has to do with the angle and small size of the windsheild.) The cupholders suck, not a problem for me because I have a short commute but this could be an issue and surprises me coming from GM. Overall though I love this car!

We got the HHR so we would have a vehicle that could haul stuff - for my woodworking husband and gear for my bicycling hobby. What a find. It meets our needs for functionality and looks great too. The gas mileage is a nice plus as well. Comparison shopping found competitors lacking. They just weren't built as solidly.

I love this car.

My wife calls it a boy car; I don't know about that, but I know it is a great car. I have wanted one for a while now and now that I have one, I love it.
