Great long lasting car

Perfect interior for SUV typical use. Good availability of used parts. Easy to upgrade, mechanics know how to work on these. Good tires I've put over 20K miles on it.

200,000 and still purrs

I bought my 200 Explorer XLT with 20,000 miles. Once it passed 150K I started keeping my eyes open for another car. I am a Diesel Mechanic by trade. I drive it like an old lady. Changed oil every 4,000 mi, Trans and transfer case 40, 000 mi. Other than routine maintenance and minor repairs, it just keeps going. I have enjoyed many camping and fishing trips and road trips with her. Replace muffler, exh manifold, EGR solenoid, A/C compressor clutch, Steering and suspension parts. Minor problems. About $500 per yr. I just passed 200,000 mi. in 2019 Yes this car is 19 years old. no car payment for 16 yrs. I was able to save up the cash for a new car. I will drive this car until motor or trans goes bad 300,000??? we'll see

High mileage, but looks and drives fantastic

My family is the second owner of my 2000 Explorer 5.0L Limited. We bought it many years ago when it was about six years old, with a little less than 100K on it It currently has 234,000+ and still trucking on very reliably. I replaced the original water pump at 195K, getting ready to install the fourth set of brakes, on the second alternator, most of the front suspension, all of the bearings in the rear (really only needed a pinion bearing) and no other high dollar parts or repairs yet. The rear main seal has started to weep and will be replaced soon, but the engine doesn't burn any oil. I have gotten up to 24+mpg highway, with 16-18 average. I have towed a 6,000+ pound travel trailer in the north Ala. hills and it was flying. MPG suffers with that load as I averaged about 7-12mpg. Maintenance is the key to longevity with these vehicles. I only use Motorcraft parts and filters, Castrol's best synthetic 5w30, Autolite iridium plugs and have it lubed every other oil change. The last alignment check needed no adjustments after many miles. The interior is great, with leather seats that are not torn or splitting. Lumbar supports won't stay inflated and can't be repaired, as none of them can so say the upholstery shops. This SUV has never left us on the side of the road, so reliability is superb. It has the 255-75-16 tires, heavy duty front and air shocks on the rear and the stability is unmatched. If you can find one like mine that has been well taken care of, grab it. You may be hard pressed to find one like mine that has never been smoked in or wrecked, but keep looking. It would be well worth your time.

Best cars I've had.

The engines literally outlast the body. They will last a long time. They run hard, they are reliable. They have lots of room. These are great cars.

Garaged since new.

Vehicle is like new. I have only owned it for a few months. I thought it would satisfy my desire for an Expedition. I now have my Expedition.
