I thought I bought a great car, good value, style and mileage. The mileage is okay (32 mpg), but I was expecting the 37, 38 mpgs as advertised. On a trip out west, 3 months of ownership, the car would not go in reverse or drive faster than 5 mph! The computer needed new protocols set and I was on my way from Topeka, Kansas! Then, 7 months later, same thing, breakdown, 20 miles from home! Still waiting on repair, but it is the transmission, again!

I replaced my 2001 Taurus with this. It's great. I'm saving over $150/month on gas and averaging 34.5mpg. I love the redesign Ford did last year. The car feels bigger than it is. Rear leg room is wanting though. Sync is pretty cool, but it takes some getting used to. I had to check the manual a few times. Voice control is great. Sync even paired up with my cheap Tracfone. It's pretty great to flip the button and say "Call Home". I priced some used cars, but the prices were sky-high. $2K more and I have a new car. Tons of rebates. I bought the SE for Cruise Control.

2013 Ford Focus on 4th automatic transmission

I bought this car brand new in 2012-2013 and felt like I was getting a great deal, but I have replaced the automatic clutch 3 times in 50k miles, about to make the appointment for #4 with under 65k on the vehicle. The car blows through tires like crazy due to poor hatchback design lifting the back end of the car at highway speeds causing waffling on the tires about 15k miles into tires with religious rotation schedules. I am an avid Ford owner and love their trucks, but will never consider another ford car. Worst mistake I ever made!! I am sure I am not the only one with this problem, I have spoken to 15+ people with the same issue in my city. They said at the dealership that the car needs to learn the driver, but it must have had problems in school because it has many problems learning. I was going to give this to my two 16 year old girls but I just can't stand worrying if it will die on them while driving!!

I made the switch from a 2002 Toyota Camry XLE to a 2013 Performance Blue Ford Focus Titanium a year ago, and I am so happy I did. Every time I get into the car it puts a smile on my face. It is very fun to drive and gets great gas mileage. If I keep it around 65 mph on fairly level roads, I get about 45 miles to the gallon. I love the Sync system and haven't experienced too many issues with it. It is so much fun to just click a button and say "Play Song Radioactive" and then have that song come blaring through the speakers. The lighting in the car is magical especially driving it at night. I love the ease of putting gas in the car - no keys or levers to push, no gas caps to mess with - just open the door, put the pump in, when its done filling up, take the gas pump out and shut the door and you are on your way again. Overall, Ford has won me over - count me a very satisfied customer.

Anyone considering the Civic should definitely take a serious look at the Focus. As a household we had owned 4 Honda vehicles all purchased new. It seemed their overall quality of materials and fit/finish has declined. The last straw was my 2012 Civic, which had an annoying rattle in the dash from the day I drove it off the lot and after 4 trips to the dealer they still had not been able to get it fixed. Started looking at he Focus and after a test drive was sold. The Focus has a smoother/quiet ride. The noise from the Firestone tires was horrible on the Civic, as well as the wind noise from the windshield and windows. The interior materials and layout in the Focus are much better than the Civic. The Ford dealer was able to work a deal on my Civic trading it in, and I drove off in a 2013 Focus SE with a manual 5-speed transmission. Very happy with the decision. After 2 months I have no regrets and feel the Focus beats the Civic hands down. Been averaging 33.8mpg in mixed driving. Ford products are definitely on the cutting edge of styling, fit/finish, and technology.

I disposed of my 2013 Ford Focus on 9-15-14 at a loss. I experienced all of the transmission issues already mentioned including almost getting struck when entering an intersection and the transmission simply stopped giving forward movement. I was always told it is suppose to run like that. At a 35000 mile oil change I was told a seal between the transmission and engine had failed an oil had leaked from the engine. It was repaired and I was then told about a surprise extended warranty on the part and associated parts from Ford only Ford did not say anything until a week after the repair. All of the shuddering eventually started back up again and on 9-14-14 I noticed a burnt rubber smell from the car. I realized it had always been burning rubber but I always convinced myself it was another vehicle next to mine. Mine was new and it couldn't be mine. I strongly recommend against buying a Ford Focus.

I rented one of these over the weekend. At first, I was horrified by the way it performed. I was sure somebody had trashed the tranny. Then I listened. This is a SIX SPEED transmission! It uses every gear in order to get the best mileage possible. If you learn to cooperate with the car instead of listening to your first stick shift, you can have an enjoyable ride. Here's where I got messed up in the beginning and I'm convinced you are too: The engine revs much higher than you expect and you let off on the accelerator. This causes the car to lurch forward. Then you press again. The cycle continues... A steady or slightly increasing pressure gives a smooth curve, but you MUST ignore the tachometer and your ears. When you want to stop accelerating, let off the gas completely. By doing this and using the cruise control as much as possible, I was able to achieve 38 MPG driving through winding, mountainous country roads (according to the car - on the last leg I refilled, drove 71 miles and filled again - 1.28g - you do the math). BTW, on that last leg I passed people 3 times on roads that require you to accelerate hard to pass. Learn the car and it will be good to you.

We have had this car for about a year and a half now. We did have a jumpy transmission at first. It seems to have dissipated after many long road trips. We were disappointed with the transmission, but absolutely loved everything else about the car. It has a beautiful interior, great exterior, plenty of power. Handling is crisp and precise. But it is the gas mileage that won us over. We have gotten 43 mpg twice on long trips and never anything less than 37mpg running the air. We can go 255 miles on $20 bucks. Ford should really fix than jumpy transmission and they would win over a lot of foreign car owners. ( we run mobile one oil in the car )

I've got 3,300 miles on my minimally equipped 2013 Ford Focus S with a 5-speed manual transmission, and it has not disappointed me. Power and handling and solid feel coupled with outstanding fuel economy make this car a winner. The driver and shotgun seats offer comfort and excellent support. Mrs. Supercruiser and I were very comfortable on a three hour nonstop drive despite our arthritis issues. The nice part is that a fully grown male (I'm 6'1", 245, and wear a size 54 long suit.) can fit into the driver's seat comfortably, although I have popped the buttons off several rear trouser pockets during entry. Forget assigning any adult passengers to the rear seats while the front seats are adjusted all the way back. They won't fit.
