Good Looking, Fun to Drive & Economical

The 2005 Mustang, 6 cylinders with 5-speed manual transmission is a great combination of a vehicle with good looks that is also fun to drive and economical. In combined city/highway driving I average around 26 mpg. In pure highway driving I average 32 - 33 mpg. This is good gas mileage for a vehicle with the amount of power the Mustang has. There is ample power to accelerate, and the handling and braking have been excellent in my everyday driving. With over 100,000 miles on the odometer, I had one mechanical problem beyond what would be considered normal wear. The throttle position sensor failed around 60,000 miles. The maintenance cost overall has been average, on par with what I generally would expect most vehicles to cost to maintain. I recommend buying a Mustang with the optional side airbags for safety, and would like to see those become standard on Mustangs.

Fun Car

I have read some of the reviews on the 2005 Mustang V6 Premium. Gladly , I have not experienced the problems that a couple of drivers have referred to. Not had to take in for warranty work once. All mechanical / electrical systems fine. Power train / Motor, fine. Reliability through +30K miles has been a customers dream. The Shaker 500 stereo systems completely rocks. Cleans up great and has beautiful, deep shine. Still draws lots of compliments. If I could, I would stash this one away for 40 years, then take it to the auction to pad my retirement. Never grows weary on the eyes.

Great Ride

I just purchased a 2005 Mustang with a manual transmission. Runs smoothly with lots of power. The interior isn't very spacious, only fits 4 people comfortably. Other than that it's great!

Mustang Lover's Dream, but Strings Attached...

I've owned a 2005 Mustang V6 Premium Coupe with automatic transmission since new. The exterior styling is great...very classic Mustang styling cues from the late '67 & '68 fastbacks. The car still turns heads six years later with about 82K miles. The interior, however, has a lot of cheap materials. Great retro styling, but some aspects of the interior just simply look pre-production and unfinished. Initially, there were lots of rattles in the dashboard and hand-brake area...common problems for the 2005 models. As far as performance is concerned, the 210HP is average. The torque at 240 lb/ft is decent, but not spectacular. It has only a single exhaust. Basically, the car has the same engine as in the Ford Explorer. It's a coarse sounding engine...not smooth & refined, but runs on Regular fuel and takes non-synthetic oil changes every 5K miles. Quite frankly, there are many other V6 cars that are faster & have more torque, but don't look as great as a Mustang. Handling is pretty good, but the car has too much body roll which is noticeable if you're doing mountain driving or going through other windy roads. The steering is good, but not as tight as say...a BMW. I wish a Steptronic automatic transmission (with the option of shifting manually through the gears like in a BMW) was available. At 187 inches, the car feels big because of the long hood and somewhat poor all-around visibility. The backseat is very tight. The ride is very rough, unless you are on smooth highways. Brakes are average in stopping. The interior cabin noise is pretty good, and reduction of wind noise is surprisingly excellent. Turning radius is outstanding for a car of this size. The upgraded Shaker 500 sound system is much better than the stock sound system. Mechanically speaking, the car has not been completely trouble-free. The fuel tank had to be replaced due to slow fill at gas pumps. There was a rear axle whining sound at speeds above 40 mph. Coolant overflowed after driving to the mountains. There was a stuttering problem after take-off from a stop after using the cruise control for a long drive. There was a leak at the engine valve cover...not once, but twice. The rear brakes squeaked. There was a popping noise when turning the wheels both ways. A check engine light came on at 43K miles which resulted in a defective fuel rail pressure sensor...not covered under warranty. The radio/cd player had to be replaced due to CD's skipping. Currently, the transmission seems to be slipping and it clunks hard when put into Reverse after a drive. There is a rattling sound coming from the tachometer and continues to rattle for a few seconds after the car has been shut off. The power lumbar and power seat bottom cushion do not work anymore. The rear turn signal bulbs and 3rd brake light bulbs must have been defective in all 2005 mustangs because they don't last long...a common problem I see all the time on these cars. Ford has been making this car continuously since 1964. You would think that these kind of problems would have ceased in Mustang production years ago. And so it goes...the love affair Mustang fanatics have with a car that looks absolutely great, but does come with some baggage that will always have to be addressed. German and Japanese cars still seem to have better fit & finish in my opinion, but a Mustang is unique. No other car on the road looks like one, and since the Mustang was re-designed in 2005, who knows...it may even become a classic of its own someday.

Worth The Money

After 5 years and 56,000 miles, I am still in love with my 2005 Mustang convertible. I love its styling, and it's surprising reliability. One drawback: it's not a car for winter roads! The peppy V6, combined with it's rear wheel drive, makes an "interesting" snow driving experience. But I have the top down from April to October!

The Biggest Mistake I ever made.

I purchased my 2005 Mustang used in May of 2008. First off the paint and clear coat was chipping a bit on the hood. Ford and their stingy warranties did no help. As a year my front fender , 3/4 of my hood, and below the driver door window has no clear coat and paint chipped. Every time i get gas i have to hold the pump handle in an angle cause the pump stops pumping frequently and yes i know you think its the pump, no it is definitly the car.Now to the terrible performance. The car pulses at brake or parked. The car kept stalling out on and off for the past two years and when i brought it in to 3 diffrent places none of them could find out why. I am under 100k miles and the fuel gage is already broken, the other gages are off bad. I will never EVER buy a Ford again, it is the worst Make of cars, and it disgraces our country by claiming its American made. Going back to Chevy.

Great Car

2008 is a Great car. My 2005 mustang v6 had to have a new transmission at 60,00 miles then had electrical problems sold it at 120,000 miles. But I have to say I loved to drive it.
