First saw this car featured in the 1991 July edition of Road&Track while sitting at a dental clinic. I was 18, a freshman in college driving a beat up Corolla needing a root canal. Dentist passing by saw my jaw drop open and told me to keep it that way later when it's my turn. A sleek 250hp V8 coupe that rocked 16" rims, a premium Nakamichi sound system that came with an optional 12in cd changer, does 0-60 in 6.7secs-I told myself I'll own one someday. 15 yrs later I bought my neighbor's '93. Bulletproof 1UZFE motor. Turnkey car that's buttery smooth in stock form but has potential to become a wild animal whenever mated either simply collectors/headers along with hollow cats on a full NA build - I couldn't get enough of the exhaust pulses through the headers it emits, really awesome! I've done almost everything to it (except FI, sadly it's too much $$$), but I've converted it's only factory option 'auto'slushbox into a 5spd manual (sourced an SC300's trans + drive shaft, mated it to an aftermarket bellhousing), tuner parts -- big win lip, 5zigen exhaust tips, mandrel bends, repainted to paint code Lexus 3R7, Bilstein shocks, H&R sport springs, lowered it to a credit card fender gap-because -moar-low-on-stretched-tire-you name it..After all these years (17), it's time to retire it (just purchased an Audi RS3). However, as much fun I know I will be having with the RS3, I'm still keeping the SC -- after all, the SC's got the RS3 by having that one more extra pedal ---the new universal symbol of 'OG car enthusiast approved'.

One of the best cars I've ever owned hands down!

Believe it or not I found a '95 SC 400 in a parking of a electrical shop,"alternators, starters, etc....I bought and had been driven hard. I paid $800 for it and it for 5 years, parked in the winter and every spring just opened the door reached in and turned the key and it was running. I drove the car hard until I let a friend drive home one night, it had some electrical issues the radio didn't work and I didn't care. Well my x-friend decided to tear it apart and that was the end of but hands down one of the funnest, coolest cars I've ever had and I've had 100's.

great stylish ride

One of my favorite cars. Lexus was on top with this one. Apparently the design was so good they didn't change it for another 20 years.

Most reliable car I've ever owned.

This is the most reliable car I've ever owned, for real. At 200k miles it still runs and feels like brand new. It's a very comfortable car to drive and ride in.

alexis the lexus

had this car for about 2 years. bought from a dealer. after i bought it i had major issues with it. due to the complicated build and its luxury name i only trusted the dealer for repairs. but the bill has racked up over $10k and this vehicle is getting pricey. with its current value at a low of $600 im very dissapointed but it runs perfect and its been a great experience. i recommend this to mechanics or wealthy collectors. the only people who can truly appreciate the car and deal with her problems. i bet this was a beauty back in her day. im married to her !!!

What a beauty!

I bought this 1992 Lexus SC400 as a project to restore. It was supposed to be a problematic piece of craap to start out with, but it was far from that. It has not caused one major problem yet, you floor the thing and it cranks. I am 16 and had no idea what this car was when I got it. It is now my all time favorite car I have ever owned...(yes, I've owned other vehicles) and is still my favorite car almost more than any other car on the road. (BTW, don't listen to that person that rated it bad, you cannot base a Lexus off of one of their million cars. I'm sorry that it was a problematic vehicle for you, but for the rest of the world, they're really reliable.) Definitely recommend this! (I like this car way better than my 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass if that tells you a dang)

From a time when Japan ruled the world

These cars were a no-holds-barred attack on the industry and the development and engineering money spent on them was staggering. With proper maintenance these cars will easily go 300,000 miles or more with little trouble. The engine is based on the old Toyota IRL racing engine, is durable, and built with forged internals! They are only rated from 250-290hp but they will handle all sorts of boosting with no trouble. The interiors are immensely silent and comfortable and have features you still don't commonly see on today's cars. There are 4 common problems you will find on these cars, each easily fixed; 1 - The cluster lights go out - have it rebuilt for under $200 2 - Front LCA's - Cost about $600 to replace every 100K miles. 3 - Headlamps are dim, even when new - OEM HID retrofit are about $500 or less. 4 - Interior window trim becomes fragile with age - Factory replacements are still available! Safe, the definition of reliable, supremely comfortable, beautiful, and easily obtained - for now!!!
