2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL 65 review: Our expert's take

What it is: The two-seat Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, a retractable-hardtop convertible, is constructed mostly of aluminum and equipped with a choice of V-6 or V-8 engines in luxury guise, and with V-8 or V-12 power in AMG performance models. The SL competes with the BMW 6 Series.

A backup camera and side mirrors that project the Mercedes-Benz logo are now standard.

AMG SL63, SL65

AMG performance versions of the SL-Class are available with a choice of power output. The SL63 uses a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 engine that produces 577 horsepower and 664 pounds-feet of torque. The SL65 boasts a 621-hp, twin-turbo 6.0-liter V-12 engine that sends 738 pounds-feet of torque to the rear wheels. Both use a seven-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes says the SL65 can go from zero-to-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.
