our expert's take

What Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class?

The Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class is a two-seat retractable-hardtop convertible that is smaller and less expensive than the automaker’s SL-Class roadster. It comes as the SLC 300 and performance-oriented AMG SLC 43. The SLC 300 uses a 241-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and the AMG SLC 43 has a 385-hp, twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6. Both have rear-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The SLC competes with the Audi TT and Porsche Boxster.

What’s New on the 2020 Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class?

Blind spot warning is now standard, and Final Editions of both the SLC 300 and AMG SLC 43 are available. The SLC 300 Final Edition includes Selenite Grey paint, gloss-black trim, 18-inch gloss-black wheels, AMG sport seats finished in Nappa leather, gray seat belts, an AMG steering wheel and special badges. Meanwhile, the AMG SLC 43 Final Edition gets Sun Yellow paint, gloss-black trim, 18-inch matte-black wheels with yellow accents, AMG sport seats in Nappa leather, gray seat belts, an AMG steering wheel and special badges.

What Features in the 2020 Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class Are Most Important?

The SLC’s roof can be opened or closed at speeds up to 25 mph, though the process must start from a standstill. Mercedes’ available Airscarf neck-level heating system is designed to make top-down driving in cooler weather more comfortable. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking and a driver drowsiness monitor.

Should I Buy the 2020 Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class?

The SLC serves as a cheaper alternative to the SL roadster, Mercedes’ long-standing luxury convertible that has a storied history and a larger following. Though the SLC provides somewhat sportier performance, it lacks the SL’s refinement and panache.

  • SLC 43 AMG

I own 2020 slc 43 and 2020 gt 53 and the slc is so much more fun to rip around in, the 43 engine in that little roadster is crazy fast but grips the road perfectly. My only gripe would be the outdated tech for the msrp but it does work well and in no way looks or feels cheap.

  • Perfect example of sports and luxury

Bought a 2018 AMG SLC43 on August, 2022 with 15,000 miles. If you want a combinations of sports car and comfort, this is good example. Not a pure sports car, it's performance is beyond the capabilities of the average enthusiast, including myself. This is a perfect California road car for me. My past experience with SLK's reliability has been positive.

  • Beautiful car but I have brakes that squeal.

Beautiful car love the way it drives. Took in for service on brakes that squeal really load. Mercedes just put paste on them. Did not fix the problem they still squeal. Beautiful car but everyone looking at it for the wrong reason. I was disappointed that Mercedes did not fix brakes. It only has 2000 miles on it. If brakes did not squeal I would recommend but I’m not sure it’s safe.
