I can't stop smiling...

I hav owned a recent model Mustang, an S2000 an RX8, and other performance cars and I think I can finally stop looking. I am NOT a GM guy, never had a particular interest to own a vette or certainly any Pontiac. But this GTO is a GM car I expect will be with me for a long time. The smoothness of both power and torque is so satisfying. None of that turbo stuff here. Foot on pedal, car goes now, and with authority and civility. It does not ride on a rail like an S2000, but it is still resepctable in the handling department. Interior is pleasant to look at and live with on long rides. No GM bulbous waves or unecessary curves on the dashboard. Very classy. Owned it for 5 months and thoroughly enjoy every time I drive it. I gave some 4 star rating only because a 5 is almost unreachable. This car is just plain great in more ways than the obvious LS2 engine. Big time recommended!

4 door vette

This car is amazing. I always wanted a Corvette but have a wife and 2 kids. I looked at Mustang, Mazda RX8, etc. I never thought of this car until I saw it while going to test drive a Mustang Mach1. I opened the door and was amazed how plush and roomy the interior was. I took it for a test drive and fell in love. I also blew the doors off of my buddies Mach1. I never knew a midlife crisis could be this awesome!

The thunder from down under

The power and comfort is an amazing bargain. I own a 2004 gto and a 2006 gto (both quicksilver) and the cars are amazing all around. I've compared them to the Mustang, Charger, BMW, Mercedes, and the GTO clearly comes out on top. If driven conservatively the auto will about 22-23MPG on highway, but all out it is another story. I can't see why Pontiac doesn't sell more of these. They put a smile on my face every day. The quality is great. It is ashame it is going out of production. This is the king kong of muscle cars.

Bargain Priced M3

I was too young to own a GTO back in the 60s but this version was well-timed. I have owned many high performance cars in my adult life--2 Corvettes, an LT-1 Impala SS, an LS-1 TransAm--but this 2006 GTO is in its own class. Unbelievable horsepower and seemingly unlimited torque coupled with a fully independent suspension front and rear, an exhaust note to die for and an interior the quality of BMW make this a true performance bargain. The all-aluminum LS-1 and LS-2 platforms are the best in the business and account for the 55-45 weight balance. The styling is a bit muted but that only helps me stay under the radar of the local constables when I'm flying low. My last trip even returned 25 MPG when I left the Tremec in 6th with the cruise control engaged. The clutch throw is a bit long and I don't care for the rear spoiler. I would love a sunroof and a nav system but that's it for the nits. Now that GM is waffling on the Zeta platform, this car is certain to wear well. Finally, my local dealer let me have mine for $25,000 which is what a 4-cylinder Accord costs out here in southern California. My friends are simply amazed when I tell them how much I paid.

Life really breathes in an established Car Name

From the minute you enter the car to the end of the trip, there's nothing American as fulfilling as the experience of driving the New GTO. Passengers aren't as fond of the experience but will attest to the performance and handling's superior abilities. This is an automobile that requires an aware driver that is completely capable behind the wheel. This is not a "car for the wife"; unless she's NASCAR Capable! Great times, not just good times, can be had in owning the 2006 GTO.

Goes Fast, Very Fast

When the re-introduced 2004 GTO came out I was curious about the car. I wanted one, just figured why hurry. I'm sure you heard all the stories about the average styling (No hood scoops? On a GTO! What?) They got some of that fixed with the '05-'06 models & the 400 h.p. is nice. This car is very refined compared to my old 1967 GTO. Big difference. It would be nice to have a couple extra things like side air bags, sun roof, navigation, blue tooth & then this car would be the ultimate. Refined & modern muscle. But the horsepower makes up for it. It is fun to drive. Quiet. Yet it comes to life when you get into the gas pedal. The thing that just is weird is I keep thinking my car is from down under. It is a foreign car. It seems like a foreign car. A Kangeroo Goat! They have stopped production. Many used ones on the market & the prices are dropping fast (I got my '06 GTO used with only 1,200 miles on it from a private party at a fraction of new price). So look for a good deal. You can't beat the power. Power = FUN. Later,

Fantastic Car

Fantastic Car I have had my new 2006 - 6 speed GTO for only a few weeks but feel qualified to judge this vehicle because it is my second new GTO. I had a new 1970 automatic that I drove for about 5 years and of course wish I still owned. The Tremec 6 speed in this new and much faster GTO feels right at home and helps to give this new GTO a great muscle car attitude. Before I purchased the 6 speed I had the opportunity to drive the automatic but I prefer the extra control of the manual transmission. I am still breaking her in but you can feel the power of this vehicle with out running it hard. There is nothing like the feel of 400 ft./ lbs. of torque at 4000 rpm along with a great sounding exhaust. This car comes with the same 400 h.p. / LS2 engine that powers the standard Corvette and you don't have to be 29 years old to get in and out of the car. I also like the fact it doesn't have a lot of electronic gismos other then traction control that might cause problems down the road. Handling and ride - Excellent, it does not handle or brake like a slot car but is quite superior to the 70 GTO. The ride is firm without being jarring. The interior - Very comfortable leather seats, room for four and nice looking. The trunk - Small, but this is not the car for the family vacation. Gas mileage - Don't ask Exterior styling - Not for everybody but the hood scoops and a bright color helps it stand out if you want to be seen. If you have interest in a car that can go 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and also sounds the part then you owe it to yourself to take a test drive. No, I don't work for GM and my daily driver is a 1996 Nissan Maxima 5 speed with 120,000 miles. Go figure, GM won me back with a fantastic GTO that makes the hot-rod kid in me smile again after 36 years.

Worth the extra dough

Have owned a Black, Automatic 2006 GTO for about a month and a half, and have found the car to be extremely satisfying whether driven slowly or all out. Despite some typical GM cheapness (hood release, gas cap, fuel filler door, climate control knobs) the car feels very solid to drive. The engine and exhaust sound great, and part throttle transmission shifts are silky smooth. Acceleration is occasionally blunted somewhat by the four speed automatic, but that's the price you pay for not shifting yourself. At it's worst, the car is quick, and at it's best, it's downright scary, which is just how I like it. Exterior styling looks great to me, and I find myself turning to stare at it everytime I walk away. The interior looks even better, especially lit up at night. I like the digital speedometer. Air conditioner works great, even in 100 plus temperatures. Gas mileage has been about 17 mpg, with about a 40/60 split between city and highway driving. Stereo is decent, and the 6 disc changer is a nice feature. Handling is good, although the steering is heavier than other cars. However, this seems to help the car track straighter during highway driving. The ride is comfortable for a sports car. I get excited everytime I drive this car, and that hasn't happened since I was a teenager. I highly recommend this vehicle.

A Performance Bargain

Impressive speed, handling, comfort and price. This car comapres favorably with European and Japanese cars costing $50-60,000.00 and in most cases can easily outperform them, (e.g., BMW M3, Mercedes E-350, Charger SRT-8,Audis,Jaguars and Nissan M35 and M45) and puts cars like the Charger and Magnum R/T's, Mustang GT, Nissan Maxima, 350Z and Altima V6, Honda Accord and Si V6's, Chrysler 300C, Mitsubishi Eclipse and all Volkswagons, Saabs and Volvos to shame even in some case at much higher prices. I purchased a 2005 GTO with 3,000 miles for $25,000. All I can say is with gas prices the way they are I wonder if the Camaro, new GTO or Challenger will ever be built so run out and pick up a 2005 or 2006 GTO with the 6.0 liter 400 h.p./400 lb. ft. torque Chevy LS2 motor, hood scoops, dual exhausts and the nicest interior you've even seen in an American (Austrailian) car with really good handling and a silky smooth ride to boot. After you've driven one, you just won't understand why these cars did not fly out of the dealerships as perfromance bargains.

I LOve it

Best car in its class. It might not be the prettiest, but certainly blows the competition away. If you are looking for a nice sports car, who cares if its pretty.
