Nice truck

All in all a nice, and capable truck. However Toyota needs to fix the criuse control which wanders up and down by about 7 mph as it negotiates gentle slopes on the interstate ( eg going over bridges). They also need to look at the problem that the transmission has in downshifting into first gear at low speeds. It results in a very herky jerky ride when pulling trailers in stop and go traffic and I don't expect that from a top of the line modern pickup.

2 years old and not a problem

I purchased this Tundra at the end of 06 as the new 07 Tundras were coming in. At first I thought I was settling for less not getting one of the redesigned 07 Tundras but I was wrong. I love my Tundra and have had no issues with it since purchase. The only thing was a recall for the front end suspension which Toyota handled. I would say the best things about this Tundra is how it feels and handles. I remember reading one test saying the Tundra was about as close to a car as you could come with a truck. I have to agree, the Tundra handles quite well and interior wise feels just like a comfortable car. Plenty of room inside (front and back) and the bed is plenty big for hauling most anything. My only complaint, the design of the folding rear seats isn't the greatest. I have two dogs that I sometimes take with me and to get them into the rear cab I must fold up the seats. Unfortunately the seats just fold forward not leaving much room in the double cab. Anyway, read consumer report's reliability notes and witness the high number of happy customers at various websites, the 2006 Toyota Double Cab is sure to please.

Most annoying i've ever owned.

Have had the truck for two years now. The truck lunges forward while idling. The rpm's run at about 1000 with the AC on and jumps to 1200 or 1400 while sitting at a light. The remote for the door will not allow me to change to open both doors at the same time. Both of these issues the dealer told me that's just the way they work and it can't be changed. If you like a tight ride this truck is great, but when the Tundra first came out it was listed in Car and driver as one of the best 10 cars on the market that year. The ride was smooth as a car. If I could do it over I would have got a Dodge. Cost less and rides much better.

Had all manufactures love this one.

No problems at all. Tight and responsive. I tow haul and drive off road, it does it all! The motor starts and runs smoother than any other car or truck I have owned.

Great truck.

What the Tundra lacks in power, it makes up for in reliability. This truck has required relatively no maintenance since I bought it...and it's a great truck to pull my boat with!

more trustworthy than my babysitter

Being a landscape contractor, I was worried this truck wouldn't be tough enough to withstand the day to day treatment of my crew and I. After 11 months, I have 22,000 miles on it already. Excepting regular fluid changes and a broken cigarette lighter they replaced for free, I've not had one problem. After owning 8 Ford/GM trucks of varying duty ratings, the amazing thing is that even with a ton of crushed stone, well spread out due to a much needed bed extender with the double cab 4wd model, , it still handles like a car. Quietest riding vehicle I've ever had. The wife can even handle it. Perfect for the working guy who wants to shuttle the family around on weekends. The 4.7 v8 is quiet, smooth and has power to spare, esp. with a light/med load. Rear retracting window is a godsend to handle pipes/planks or ladders. Only problems are transmission makes it feel like someone is tapping you in the rear, sometimes, at red light, brakes can be a little spongy feeling, but work well anyway. coffee cup can turn on ac accidentally. MPG is 13-14 town/16-18 highway. The easier you drive, the better the mileage. 4wd engages/disenges smoothly even at 60 mph. Turning radius is large and takes some getting used to. But with longest bed in 2006 w/double cab on any truck, you get used to it. It handles so well, it's not a problem. I recently drove a 2007, even better. for both years, toyota interviewed truckers to get the real lowdown on needs of the everyday worker, and it shows. Cupholders, storage compartments in every nook and fold forward back seats are all helpful and keep my crew happy. reccommend heavy duty batt/alt. set-up.It has a few DC outlets that come in handy, I often have computer, phone and GPS hooked up at one time. Beware of unneeded extra maint. offers you get bombarded with, however. Have driven safely with a full pallet of wallstone, (2500 lbs?), but with a minor weave. Truck is rated like 16-1700 lbs? If you simply maintain the fluids regularly, this baby is a good buy and should last for years. Am looking into dual exhaust for extra power/mph if possible. Heard it helps.

1st full size p/up after owning 2 mid-sized

Have owned a Nissan and Tacoma Pre-runner recently. Am 6'3" and the comfort of this vehicle is wonderful. Back-seat room (double cab)is also very remarkable. I have the LTD and love the extra features, though I have more on my LTD Freestyle and would hope Toyota would be a bit more generous when it comes to the LTD models. The power and feel is excellent. Visability from inside the vehicle into traffic, etc is superb. I have the double cab so the parking lot adjustments have been a new experience but are no longer a problem. My sons and doughters are very impressed with it, and when my oldest son (6"4" with long legs) gives me the thumbs up with "I would not change a thing" response I am pleased. He is a former Denali owner so comfort/room were key. I am still very impressed as I have only 500 miles on it as of jan 07. My experience with Toyota products (5 other Toyota vehicles) is all positive!! oh yea....Made in the USA!!??

Quality reliablity, say what!

I bought the Tundra and was told of its reliablity and quality. The first time I needed the 4 wheel drive it was not operational. Took it back to the dealer and they said the front wheel drive drive actuator was installed improperly and it was damaged. It also took out the electronic control unit. One week in the shop and I'm hoping the next 200 miles (yes it only has 200 miles on it) are less eventful. I've bought 14 new vehicles over the years. Never had these kind of serious problems before
