The hybrid makes a lot of sense because of the overall mpg. That drives a lot of the value we derive from this van. I would probably purchase another newer model if the overall electric miles substantially increased.

We have owned this car for about 5 months. We have put 5k miles on it. My wife mainly drives it and is very pleased with it. We have 3 kids, each in car seats (5, 3, and newborn) and it has been an incredibly comfortable and easy car to own. The fuel economy is fantastic for how we use it. In the cold winter months, we get about 25-30 miles of electric range, and in the warmer months we got about 35-40 miles. I even got 42 miles on electric range once. Once the electric-only range is depleted, we get around 30-40mpg depending on driving style and a multitude of other factors. We do a lot of local driving so this car has suited us perfectly. We are about to fill up the car for the 2nd time in the next two weeks at some point. That will be about 5.5 months of ownership with 2 fill ups. Our electric bill has gone up only marginally; maybe around $20/mo. That has taken our cost of transportation from about $1500 - $2000 in gas a year down to about $250 in electricity a year plus maybe 4-5 fill ups which total about $35/each. So in total we are saving anywhere from $1100-$1600 per year in gas. In summary, we love this car. It does what it is supposed to do and the reported mileage/range is as advertised or even better for most of the year. We don't regret this purchase at all, and aside from our mortgage, this is the largest investment my wife and I have made in our lives as a family.
