I negotiated over the phone and he answered my questions honestly then I drove for 4 hours to the dealership and it was just as he said on the phone! If you do not have the time / place to sell on your own, CarMax is perfect, BUT a little strategy might get you a better price. During the time before & during your car being appraised, you will be chatted up by an associate. They will ask you if you've checked online sources to get an idea of what the car is worth. It wouldn't hurt to spin this to your advantage. If I had to do it again I'd give them a slightly high target price that I want. They say they don't negotiate, but giving them your target up front might very well get you a higher price. Once they show you the results of the appraisal & price, that's final. You have to take it or leave it. Best of luck.
We went to AllStar Nissan with less than 24 hours left to buy a car because our rental had to be returned the same day. Lost transmission towing camper from Florida to Colorado. May 3rd. I coasted into the front of the dealership. I knew what was wrong. I just retired last year. 30 years in automotive after market. I sold parts to dealership's and any garage or repair shop in my market. ASE parts specialist. I looked at used Surburban's. I like my 2005. I went to the service department. Asked how long would it take to get a GM remanufactured unit. 10 minutes went by and I got my answer. We can have you back on the road tomorrow after lunch. I went for that deal. While we waited one of the salesmem offered to tow our camper over to used car department. Hooked us up with electric and water. We had our german sheapards with us too. They offered us a loaner car so we could get around while we waited. We didn't need that. We had a wonderful experience. This was one of the best experience in a repair shop I have had in a long time. I want to give everyone there a job well done. Thank you all because I must have spoken to most everyone. Lots of free coffee. Thank you again.
