Ford’s second major recall of 2022 once again includes the 2015 iteration of its Mustang sports coupe, but whereas the first involved an issue with the brakes, this time out, it’s a faulty backup camera.

Affected cars also include the 2016-17 model years, and nearly 330,800 Mustangs all told are involved. The rearview camera wiring may be loose or damaged, which can result in a blank or distorted image. In addition to violating a federal mandate, a rearview camera that displays a blank or distorted image can reduce the driver’s rear view and increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and repair the deck lid wiring harness and replace the rearview camera, as necessary, for free. Owners will first receive an interim letter notifying them of the safety risk beginning March 7; a second letter will be sent once a fix is available. Further questions can be directed to Ford at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 22S06), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
