GM Integrates Electrify America Charging Network Into Owner Apps
Key Points
- Electrify America chargers now appear in the myCadillac, myChevrolet and myGMC apps.
- Allows GM electric-vehicle owners to find, navigate to and pay for charges at Electrify America locations
Anyone with a smartphone knows tech does not always make things simpler. Your phone downloads an update while you sleep and come morning, you need to relearn all of the apps you use every day. With EVs, the complication lies in different charging networks all having dedicated apps for finding their locations and paying for juice.
Automakers combat this and simplify things for their EV drivers by incorporating charging networks into their native apps. Now, GM announced it has added Electrify America, the second-largest DC fast-charging network in the U.S., to its myCadillac, myChevrolet and myGMC apps.

This move allows owners to find Electrify America chargers, integrate them into road-trip planning, monitor session progress and pay for charging within their GM app. The apps will also show real-time charger availability, reducing the likelihood that drivers arrive at a charging station only to find all of the plugs are occupied.
With more than 5,000 plugs across the U.S., Electrify America is second only to Tesla in number of public DC fast chargers. The company is a distant second, however, as Tesla boasts more than 36,000 DC fast-charging plugs, but EA has a decided edge in high-output 350-kilowatt chargers. These chargers can add upwards of 100 miles of range in less than 15 minutes, but only if the vehicle has a sufficiently powerful onboard charger. Currently, the only GM EVs able to take full advantage of such chargers are the automaker’s full-size pickup trucks and SUVs; its other EVs can only accept up to 150, 190 or 200 kW, depending on the model.
