Lexus announced the LC is dropping its top for 2021, but that’s only one of the changes the sports car will see for the new model year. Along with the new body style, the LC 500 and its 500h hybrid variant lose some weight as well as get some transmission tweaks and suspension updates. Lexus also added Android Auto to the multimedia system.

For 2021, the LC sheds roughly 22 pounds and wears some new colors: Cadmium Orange and Nori Green Pearl join the lineup. Inside, the car’s 10.3-inch multimedia system returns, and Android Auto finally joins Apple CarPlay. Also, Flare Red leather replaces the previous model’s Rioja Red interior and the Bespoke White leather option has been discontinued.
Most of the updates are mechanical, however. Suspension updates include increased rigidity for the rear stabilizer, which Lexus says should improve front turn-in ability, along with a revision of the car’s electronic absorber controls. Lexus also added Active Cornering Assist for 2021, which it says will help control cornering by providing brake control to the inner wheels as needed during spirited driving.
In the gas-powered model, the 471-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-8 and 10-speed automatic transmission combination return for 2021, with a few tweaks to the transmission — most notably changes to the logic and timing that should “accentuate the feeling of acceleration before shifting into the next gear,” the automaker said in a statement.
The hybrid also returns with its 295-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 paired with a combination of a continuously variable automatic transmission and a four-speed automatic. Lexus said that engineers updated the downshift timing of the 2nd and 3rd gears to allow for a smoother response and more robust acceleration when coming out of turns.
No word yet on pricing or an on-sale date for model-year 2021 versions of the coupe or convertible.
