Back in October 2024, Kia recalled more than 14,000 examples of its EV9 electric SUV for an issue with the instrument panel software that would cause it to go blank. Now, more than 32,500 Genesis vehicles are experiencing similar issues with the instrument panel display. (Hyundai owns a stake in Kia, and Genesis is Hyundai’s luxury brand.)
Affected vehicles include model-year 2023-24 G80 sedans and GV80 SUVs, model-year 2025 GV70 SUVs and model-year 2023-25 Electrified GV70 electric SUVs. At startup, the instrument panel display may be blank or flicker as a result of a software error, preventing the driver from being able to view important information like warning lights and the speedometer, increasing the risk of a crash.
To fix the issue, dealers will update the instrument panel display software for free. Parent company Hyundai will notify owners April 20, but those with further questions can contact Genesis customer service at 844-340-9741 (Hyundai’s number for this recall is 026G), NHTSA’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
