What’s New for the 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Good news for Jeep Grand Cherokee shoppers looking to score a deal: The only thing changing for the 2025 model year is its price. With sharp incentives on 2024 models, we had a feeling a course correction on pricing might be on the way, and fortunately, some of the 2025 prices dipped by as much as $4,000. Both the longer Grand Cherokee L and plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee 4xe variants return for 2025, too.

We’re more than familiar with Jeep’s luxe family hauler, as we’ve had a 2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk in our long-term test fleet since March 2023, and little has changed since then. Read the latest update here from our (admittedly recall-heavy) experience.

What’s New for 2025?

The lone change coming to the Grand Cherokee lineup for 2025 is a very welcome one: lower pricing on the gas-powered Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L (the 4xe’s pricing stays the same). Some of the new prices are even lower than they were when the Grand Cherokee was last updated for 2022. Otherwise, the Grand Cherokee carries over unchanged from 2024.

Trim Levels and Pricing

All trims carry over from 2024, including the 4xe’s Anniversary Edition, which itself was a carryover from the 2023 30th Anniversary Edition. (Jeep, how badly did you fumble this anniversary to need two do-over years? Is it time to look into couples therapy or is this just a really popular spec?)

Only the Laredo and Limited trims of the regular Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L come with rear-wheel drive standard, with four-wheel-drive a $2,000 upgrade. All other trims as well as every Grand Cherokee 4xe come with 4WD standard. The most off-road-capable variant, the Trailhawk, is limited to the 4xe. Pricing (including $1,795 destination fee) is as follows. Changes from 2024 pricing are in parentheses.

Grand Cherokee

  • Laredo: $38,830 (down $1,000)
  • Limited: $44,700 (down $3,000)
  • Overland: $58,790 (down $4,000)
  • Summit: $60,355 (down $4,000)

Grand Cherokee L

  • Laredo: $40,830 (down $1,000)
  • Limited: $46,700 (down $3,000)
  • Overland: $60,790 (down $4,000)
  • Summit: $62,355 (down $4,000)

Grand Cherokee 4xe

  • Base: $62,285
  • Anniversary Edition: $65,280
  • Trailhawk: $67,980
  • Overland: $75,275
  • Summit: $76,465

If you want to go really bare-bones, there’s also the Grand Cherokee Laredo A, which only comes as a RWD two-row in Bright White with no other options. A Jeep representative confirmed to Cars.com that this wasn’t a fleet-only special that somehow snuck onto its main consumer website, but noted that it is a special-order-only option. Its price stays the same as the 2024 version at $38,290.

Other popular option packages, such as the Laredo’s X group of options and the Altitude, which adds gloss-black wheels and trim and remote start, also carry over from 2024. At the expensive end of the range sits the Summit Reserve Package, which adds quilted Palermo leather seating, ventilated second-row seats, polished 21-inch alloy wheels and a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system to the already-luxurious Summit trim.

Color options also carry over from 2024. Buyers can choose between Baltic Gray, Summit White, Diamond Black Crystal, Midnight Sky (dark blue), Rocky Mountain (deep olive green), Silver Zynith and Velvet Red on the exterior. The Summit gets a gloss-black roof as standard. Inside, buyers can choose from monotone Global Black and Tupelo (brown) interior schemes, or they can opt for a two-tone Global Black and Wicker Beige interior.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

The standard Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L are both powered by a 293-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 260 pounds-feet of torque. The Grand Cherokee 4xe PHEV combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a 400-volt, 17.3-kilowatt-hour battery pack; it delivers a combined 375 hp and 470 pounds-feet. All Grand Cherokees use an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Both the RWD and 4WD Jeep Grand Cherokees achieve an EPA-rated 19/26/22 mpg city/highway/combined, while the RWD Grand Cherokee L gets 19/26/21 mpg and the 4WD Grand Cherokee L gets 18/25/21 mpg. Meanwhile, the Grand Cherokee 4xe can go up to 26 miles on electric power alone, with 56 mpg-equivalent combined when operating as a hybrid or 23 mpg combined using only its gas engine. We’ve found this to be one of the best parts of the Grand Cherokee 4xe: It’s cheap to charge on home power for shorter commutes, and it’s still relatively efficient for a big SUV after that power runs out.

Off-road capability is a big part of what sells a Jeep, however, and the Grand Cherokee doesn’t just offer 4WD, but a rear electronic limited-slip differential and two-speed transfer case, trim depending. Higher 4WD trims also get hill descent control, five selectable terrain modes that optimize the Jeep for different driving situations, and an air suspension that can raise the SUV’s ground clearance up to 10.9 inches.

The gas-powered Grand Cherokee can tow up to 6,200 pounds, and you can option it with rear load leveling to make this easier. The 4xe can tow up to 3,500 pounds with the base and Anniversary Edition trims, or up to 6,000 pounds with the Trailhawk, Overland and Summit trims.

Tech Features

As with all big higher-end SUVs, higher Grand Cherokee specs are all about the screens inside. The Grand Cherokee features either an 8.4-inch or 10.1-inch touchscreen depending on the trim, plus you can add an optional 10.25-inch passenger display or dual 10.1-inch Amazon Fire TV-enabled displays for second-row passengers. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as is Amazon Alexa connectivity and the ability for the SUV’s system to take over-the-air updates. Audio is pumped through a six-speaker sound system by default, but a nine-speaker Alpine system and 19-speaker McIntosh system are available upgrades. Customizable LED lighting comes standard, with higher trims featuring five-color ambient lighting.

An eight-way power driver’s seat is standard. Optional upgrades include massaging seats, 12-way power front seats, heated and ventilated front and second-row seats, and a power passenger seat. Dual-zone front automatic climate control with single-zone rear climate control comes standard, with four-zone automatic climate control available as an upgrade.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

All Grand Cherokees come with a lengthy list of standard safety tech including forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, rear parking sensors with automatic braking, lane departure warning and lane departure steering assist.

Optional upgrades include Jeep’s semi-autonomous Hands-Free Active Driving Assist system, lane-centering steering, a 10-inch color head-up display, 360-degree camera system, driver attention monitor, automated parking, road-sign recognition, front parking sensors with automatic braking, and Intersection Collision Assist, which helps prevent a collision while making a turn.

The 2025 Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L and Grand Cherokee 4xe are all exceptionally safe vehicles in crash tests and scored five-star overall ratings in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration testing. Additionally, the Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L were selected as Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Picks.

When it comes to keeping little ones safe, we found it was mostly easy to install a child car seat, except the rear seatbacks didn’t allow the taller forward-facing convertible and booster to rest flat against the seatback. Read more in our full Car Seat Check.

Should You Buy a 2024 or 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

When pricing is the only change from year to year, the question of which model year to buy becomes somewhat of a toss-up. On one hand, maybe getting a later model year is the move given the number of recalls we’ve had to complete for our long-term 4xe Trailhawk and automakers’ tendency to find and fix additional issues as a vehicle ages through its production run.

On the other hand, the lower starting prices for the 2025 model are just that — a start — and the heavy discounts Jeep has been pushing in order to move its inventory are no joke. We’ve found that Jeep tends to be more trim- and region-dependent than many other brands when it comes to incentives, but for the most part, discounts on 2024 Grand Cherokees allow them to undercut 2025 prices even though those are also discounted — and that’s even before any tax credits for plug-in hybrids that you may qualify for would be applied for the 4xe model.

So, it’s definitely worth considering both model years if you’re shopping for a Grand Cherokee. Check what deals are currently on offer from your local Jeep dealerships, and don’t be afraid to compare offers and haggle to get the best possible deal.
