What’s the Best Deal on a Compact SUV in January 2020?
In addition to our monthly installment on the best new-car deals industrywide, this month we’re also focusing on deals for shoppers in one of the most popular segments on the market: compact SUVs. Excluding luxury models, this class — rife with household names like the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 — accounts for nearly 1 of every 6 new cars sold industrywide, by our accounting of Automotive News sales data.

Which examples have the steepest discounts in January 2020? From our survey of six major U.S. markets, here are the prominent deals we spotted. All deals expire Feb. 3.
Chevrolet Equinox
Factory cash discounts on the 2020 Equinox amount to some 8-14% off depending on what you buy. Chevrolet is offering $3,750 off all trim levels except the base model, called the L. Alternately, creditworthy shoppers in some markets can get 0% financing for 72 months plus $500, also excluding the Equinox L.
Dodge Journey
The 2019 model year still accounts for nearly all new Journey inventory on Cars.com as of this writing, and factory discounts amount to $3,250 to $4,750, region and trim level depending. That amounts to roughly 8-17% off. Those who finance at standard rates through Dodge parent Fiat Chrysler Automobiles can knock off another $1,000 to $1,500, depending on region. And in some markets, we observed another $1,250 to $1,750 on select trims for shoppers with low credit — not the first time we’ve seen this on the Journey. In lieu of all that, high-credit shoppers can get 0% financing for 36 months plus $2,000 to $3,500, depending on region.
GMC Terrain
