When Do 2027 Cars Come Out?
What Car Shoppers Need to Know
- Carmakers operate on their own calendar, with some 2027 models already on sale and some having launched earlier in 2026.
- Shoppers who want the newest features may need to be sure that the vehicle they are considering is the latest model year.
- Many more 2027 models will be pouring into dealerships in the next few months.
As we approach the midpoint of the year, car shoppers might be wondering, “When am I?” because there are new 2025, 2026 and 2027 cars on sale right now. Early fall used to be the time when the new car models would go on sale, but that’s no longer a universal start for the new model year. We tallied up all the 2027 models for which we have data to see where we’re at with the model-year changeover from 2026 to 2027.

You Are Now
Traditionally, automakers started populating showrooms with the next year’s models in the fall. If that practice was still the norm, we’d still be several months out from an influx of 2027 models. In recent years, however, car companies have been sneaking their launches earlier and earlier into the preceding year.
By Cars.com’s count, there were 523 unique nameplates available in the 2026 model year, which includes commercial vehicles as well as a BMW 530 and BMW 540 counting as two unique nameplates instead of a singular 5 Series. As of mid-June, the 2027 versions of about 20% of those have been launched. That’s more than double the number of 2026 models that were available by this time last year.
What We Mean by “Launch”
Not all of those vehicles are on sale yet. Automakers usually show off pictures of a new vehicle and release specs before it is available to order. We consider those specs an indicator of availability and mark those cars “available” when pricing becomes available in our database. Know that a vehicle’s price and availability to order may happen months before you see people driving them on the street.
For example, Porsche is accepting orders for its 2027 Taycan electric vehicle already, but customers will not receive their new cars for several months yet. Kia, on the other hand, has been selling the 2027 Telluride since March 2026. Other vehicles, like the Rivian R2, are somewhere in between, with the first customers having already taken delivery but others still waiting in line to actually place their order.
The Flood Is Coming
While carmakers have launched far more 2027 models so far this year than they had 2026 models by this time last year, some 80% of 2027 models have yet to appear in dealerships. As the calendar closes in on the traditional fall release date, expect the rate of new arrivals to ramp up quickly.
