Expert 2026 Audi SQ5 Sportback review

Our expert's take

audi q5 2026 exterior oem 02 jpg

Key Points

  • 2026 Audi Q5 priced from $54,095; SQ5 starts at $66,695 (all prices include a $1,295 destination fee)
  • More standard and optional features
  • Freshened infotainment graphics

For the 2025 model year, Audi overhauled the Q5 family, which includes the regular Q5, coupeified Q5 Sportback and higher-output SQ5 versions of both. Audi redesigned the luxury compact SUVs atop a new platform and cloaked them in expressive new sheet metal.

For 2026, Audi is applying a few finishing touches. New graphics in the infotainment system are meant to more closely resemble smartphone icons, and the distracting touchpad controls on the steering wheel revert back to the tactile scrolling thumbwheels Audi has used in the past. Additionally, a panoramic moonroof is now standard across the lineup, and a dashcam and self-parking technology are now optional.

Trim Levels and Safety Features

The entry-level Premium trim levels include LED headlights and taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic moonroof. Inside the cabin are leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power tilt/telescoping steering column, and a wide display that combines the digital instrument panel and a touchscreen infotainment system that includes navigation.

The Q5 Sportback Premium rides on 19-inch wheels, while the entry-level SQ5 and SQ5 Sportback are fitted with 20s and a sport-tuned air suspension with adaptive dampers. The S models are dressed up inside with carbon-fiber trim, stainless-steel pedals, a flat-bottom steering wheel and shift paddles.

The Premium Plus trim level adds the same equipment to all Q5s and SQ5s: upgraded LED headlights and taillights and a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. The regular Q5 also upgrades to 19-inch wheels in Premium Plus trim.

In Prestige trim, the Q5 and Q5 Sportback get a version of the S variants’ adaptive air suspension that’s tuned more for ride comfort than handling. All Prestige variants gain organic light-emitting diode taillights, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, rear window shades, a head-up display and a 10.9-inch front-passenger touchscreen. Audi also fits the SQ5 Prestige with premium leather upholstery and massaging front seats.

Standard safety technologies on the 2026 Audi Q5 include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning. A 360-degree camera system and dashcam come in the Convenience Package for all Premium trims; they’re standard in the Premium Plus and Prestige trims. The Premium Plus also adds adaptive cruise control, while the Prestige also gets automatic parking for every body style.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

Both 2026 Audi Q5 body styles are powered by a 268-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 295 pounds-feet of torque; it’s mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard. Audi says the Q5 returns an estimated 21/29/24 mpg city/highway/combined (official EPA fuel economy ratings are not yet available for 2026).

The SQ5 gets a 362-hp, turbo 3.0-liter V-6 making 406 pounds-feet of torque. Here again, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and AWD are standard. The efficiency trade-off for the V-6’s extra power is minimal as Audi says the SQ5 is rated at 21/28/23 mpg.
