2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV review: Our expert's take

What Is the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV?

The 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is a slightly larger and roomier take on Chevrolet’s Bolt EV hatchback. Stretching about 6 inches longer overall (3 inches longer in wheelbase), the Bolt EUV boasts welcome added space for backseat passengers but slightly less overall cargo volume than the Bolt EV. Not having optional all-wheel drive or any real all-terrain capability makes it awkward to refer to this electric Chevy as an SUV, but it does offer a commanding view of the road ahead, it’s easy to maneuver, and its 200-horsepower electric powertrain provides swift acceleration and competitive driving range. Rivals include the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia Niro EV, Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4.

What’s New on the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV?

Like its Bolt EV sibling, the Bolt EUV saw a sizable price drop for the 2023 model year. Now starting about $5,700 lower than before, the Bolt EUV is one of the least expensive paths to EV ownership. Chevrolet has also added an optional Redline cosmetic package, which includes gloss-black exterior trim, black wheels with red accents, and a subtle red line along the side mirrors.

What Features in the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Are Most Important?

  • 8-inch digital gauge cluster
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Wireless device charging
  • Subscription-based Wi-Fi hot spot
  • DC fast charging
  • LED headlights
  • 60/40-split, folding backseat

  • Pedestrian detection
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

  • Super Cruise hands-free driving system
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated front and rear seats
  • 360-degree parking camera
  • Blind spot warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Bose audio system

Should I Buy the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV?

The Bolt EUV is a practical, budget-friendly choice among EVs. Acceleration is swift, the ride is comfortable, and the cabin delivers adult-friendly headroom and legroom in both rows. Cargo room, particularly behind the backseat, comes up short compared with competitive EVs and even some subcompact SUVs. DC fast charging is standard, and the optional Super Cruise hands-free driving system gives the Bolt EUV high-tech street cred when pitted against fancier (and pricier) competitors. The Bolt EUV’s price drop for 2023 is in part a response to the recall issues that affected Bolt EUVs built prior to April 2022.

the best deal in town

My first ev and I chose the gem of the pack, good size, good looks, and a great price. I will drive this car for a long time. Smooth ride, quick as I want it to be and stylish. This is really getting my bang for the buck!

My White lightning 2023 bolt EUV

So far I love the car, but the dealer experience sucked. They were so dishonest and we’re not knowledgeable about the vehicle. I believe Chevy should crack down on all the markups. These dealers are putting on these vehicles.

Why doesn't everyone drive one?!

This is my 3rd Bolt. I previously had 2020 EV Premier, 2022 EV 2LT. I missed the stuff they took away from the EV in 2022, so I decided to order one like I wanted, with the good stuff I wanted, and none of the stuff I didn't. (Sunroof, Supercruise.) This is my favorite Bolt so far. Everything I had on the 2020, plus wireless Carplay and rain-sensing wipers, which is one of my favorite options ever. Literally impossible to beat at this price point. A great car and a great value.
