2018 Ford Expedition Max consumer reviews

Bought brand new never towed even though it had the 9,000lb upgraded towing package. Day one before they handed us the keys after we purchased the vehicle: 1. Check engine light crank position sensor failure. Second week of ownership 2. Side mirror modules. 3 months later 3. Front hub vacuum system leak 40,000 miles later: 4. Transmission failure. 5. Engine oil pan needed replacement. 6. Center console cupholder broke parts and labor. $800. I suspect it was damaged during the transmission replacement as they had to access some modules under the center console I’m sure. 6. Throttlebody failed had to take it to the shop twice because they wouldn’t fix it the first time said they could find nothing wrong until I told them I had zero turbo boost with my foot to the floor. 7. Turbo waste gate right side. 8. Turbo is waste gate LEFT side they couldn’t replace them both at the same time? Someone loves having me back at the shop. 9. Leaking water pump- Replaced. 10. Leaking heater core hoses both of them. 11. New spark plugs I bought the Ford OEM and had them put in elsewhere to save $500. 12. June 13th 2024 Told that 243° for transmission was 2° shy of failure forced to drive around biting my nails waiting for impending failure taking my Ford on my family’s journeys. Finally, after returning and complaining about the slipping clunking, and even the most feeble minded passengers would ask me my God what did you hit in the road? To which I responded that wasn’t a pothole that’s my transmission that I’ve been told is OK and this is the replacement. Six months later with begging and pleading with a new service manager, I got my second replacement transmission and it is noticeably better for now. I fully expect it to die in another 40,000 miles after all the last two failed after that amount of time. I’m told that same transmission is in the current 2025 expedition however they replaced some parts that were failing and increased the transmission fluid capacity. However, I really wish there was a dipstick so I could check to see when the transmission fluid has been scorched, discolored, or filled with metal shavings 4,000 miles later the third transmission did the same thing after two hours of driving. The ford dealership drove it for 5 miles and couldn’t replicate the problem- yeah because they didn’t drive long enough to warm up the transmission. I’m done with this I endured more than anyone should. If I were a tattoo person I would have a ford emblem tattooed on my heart Until I bought this brand new 2018 Ford Expedition Max FX4 This vehicle caused me to buy my first new non Ford product… A Toyota. That’s a big deal being a third generation Ford fan born in the Motor City.

We are a tall family and tried every single vehicle on the market before finding the roomy max and falling in love. Plenty of legroom in all 3 rows for over 6-footers like us, plus plenty of room to haul our Costco loads. Have only owned for less than a week, so can't speak to long- term, but we drove 1400 miles on Route 66 and were all very comfortable. Plenty of cupholders for everyone and phone chargers as well.

Love the room in the car. Even with 3rd row seats there is plenty of room for luggage if traveling or the normal trip to the grocery store

Meets all needs for my family of 4 with two young children that are “extra” and always require “extras” that need “extra” space. Super comfortable, everyone has their own space, we don’t feel on top of each other and it’s amazing. The vehicle drives like a charm and is probably my absolute most favorite vehicle I have ever owned-even my Denali Yukon and LTZ Tahoe. This succeeds all expectations and I probably will never drive another type of vehicle again until children are grown and out of the house.

Got this car after driving around a minivan for years and boy is there a huge difference! I love it and it's so spacious I can fit 3 car seats in the second bench all next to each other! I do wish it was a bit more family affordable, it is pretty expensive for a family with kids but in all honesty it's worth it. You definitely feel much safer in this thing compared to a minivan lol

A great car, rides great. The Transmission has been back to the Ford Dealer 3 times and the last time they said they don't have a fix for it. I jerks shifting gears, makes a loud bang shifting from 1 gear to the next. I'm ready to trade it in.

This Truck is very spacious, is good 4 wheel drive system, in very smooth riding. It is dressed up to the Max with all of the options.

I love this vehicle the leg room and all the convenience of the auto programmable feature. The cruise control is the best. Never have to touch a pedal if someone is going slower than you it slows itself.

This car exceeded my expectations! The interior is awesome and Romy and it handles really well on the road . I get so many. Compliments! She is beautiful…
