Purchased this auto via the net three weeks ago. Could not find a 2012 hybrid in Michigan. Settled on a Dealer in Virgina. They were great to work with. I flew out and picked up my ride. Through I had test drove one 7 months ago in my area, I was a little overwhelmed by the vast array of features that this vehicle has. So I found there is somewhat of a learning curve with this vehicle for me anyways. Still learning how to use today's technologies to the fullest. The ride is nice trough rough on unpaved roads. The ride back from Virgina yielded 33 mpg. Had cold weather and a strong head wind. With 4 fills since, I'm getting 35-36 mpg. 30% city 70% highway. Not bad for a 4800lb car. I'm told it should get better when weather warms up. cold and wind certainly affects this vehicle mpg. Some have complained of unsafe or vehicle unresponsive when pulling out in traffic. Have not found that to be true for me. I've yet to turn off the eco feature but would if I felt unsafe in the city. Also no complaints here about sudden or jerky shifting when accelerating. Gave a 4 * to reliability as I''ve not owned long enough to judge reliability. Time will tell. I'm enjoying this car.

The only car I have liked in 25 yrs of driving other than this one is Honda Accord. I have owned my car for 3 years, and I still love it. Normally I'd be trading it in now. Most hybrid cars cost WAY more than the optima. No, I do not get 40mpg unless I am driving the exact speed limit. I normally drive 5 mi over. However, most hybrids don't sit 5 adults comfortably. The car is very roomy, even in the back seat. I frequently drive long trips, over 100 mi, and I get 37 to 40 mpg doing the speed limit. If I do 80 mi per hr, I only get 32...that is to be expected. I have had no issues with my car whatsoever, I might also add that I have 57,000 mi on my car now, and am just needing new tires :0). My car is fully loaded, I love the sunroof, gps, and deffinately the heated seats front and back. The trunk size is large, and I don't feel I have lost ANY space to the batteries.

I absolutely love my new car. I drive over 40 miles each way to work and am averaging 40+ mpg. Unlike most hybrids, the Kia actually gets better mileage on the highway, than it does in the city. With the current price of gas, I am saving enough each month to make half of my car payment. The car is a real head turner, I've gotten lots of complements on it. I absolutely love the backup camera. I am still learning all of the features of UVO. I have loaded some of my music into the jukebox and I always have music I like to listen to. My only regret is that I didn't get the heated steering wheel and seats.

Very satisfied with car's performance and less trips to the gas station. Being tall I am limited to what is available and the Optima has both legroom and headroom (except with sunroof option, not purchased). Car is very quiet in the city and has less road noise, then other comparable vehicles, I have driven, on the highway. I am also impressed with interior design and dashboard layout. The backup camera is a big plus. The only negative aspect I have found is reduced trunk space, which is two thirds of a regular Optima. However, we are able to fit two full size suitcases and two carryons into it with a little room to spare.

Compared to the regular Optima I would say that it performs like a sports car and large enough for a family. The styling is up there with the high dollar ones with the price of a working person buget. I'm totally impressed by the Optima's looks and the Hybrid goes beyond that, handles and feels super great. For the money I can't see anyone beating it in style, mpg, handle, size and price. Michael W., Granbury, TX

Car has broken down twice

I am a teenager and this is my parents' car that they bought for me and my brother to share, so I really don't have a right to complain; however, I shall. First off, I pay for my own gas, and it is difficult to keep the gas mileage over about 27 mpg. My brother is a lead food, and gets about 23. Right now, I am getting about 34 which is quite good, but that comes with mighty effort. Secondly, it is sluggish. I must turn traction control off for it to respond in due time. If there is need to move quickly, I can floor the car and it won't respond for a good three seconds which can be quite scary. I have also been stranded twice by the car. Luckily I have roadside assistance, and the transmission has been under warranty both times. What inspired this review is that now, it is driving funny once again like it did before it broke down the two other times, and my only theory is that something in its computer systems puts some unwarranted stress on the transmission or something. Lastly, the headlights are so dim it's like I'm driving with two candles in front of my car, the radio is quite fuzzy and the stereo is not that good when using AUX or bluetooth. On the plus side, it is a good looking car and the steering and brakes are amazing. Now, I know that teens are supposed to have clunkers, but it is technically my parents' car that they so graciously let me use. Therefore, I am holding it up to the standards of a family car that is expected to be reliable especially given its age.

2012 Kia Optima Hybrid I have owned this car for 5 years, Dealer serviced regularly. Nothing but problems DANGEROUS steering issues over and over, Water pump, Upper lower ball joints, New steering column many many issues. They replace the water pump and used the old belt then tell me service is required and water pump belt needs replaced. Why not replace when you replaced the water pump? Seems like just a way to get another service charge out of me. Car just turned 50000 miles and has been in the shop over 15 times. Not a purchase I'm happy I made, Lies about fuel economy, shoddy quality in my opinion seem to be Kia and Hyundai’s business model

This car looks sharp. The styling inside and out is excellent. Overall, the quality of the car is also excellent. I have had the car for 5 years and have not had any mechanical problems with it. For a hybrid, however, the gas mileage is horrible. I average 18 MPG in city driving, and am lucky to get in the high 20s (say, 27, 28 MPG) on the highway. I once asked the dealership if there were any adjustments to be made and they said no, it's all pre-programmed and controlled by the computer. So, I am not impressed with Kia's hybrid technology, for sure. I would not recommend this car in the hybrid model, but definitely for the styling, get the non-hybrid car.

Just purchased Optima Hybrid (OH). In my 33 years of driving and buying vehicles, this is the very first time I've researched and purchased for HIGH miles per gallon. Most of my other vehicles are trucks and SUVs. I'm looking forward to $aving ga$ money and enjoying a "car" ride for a change! It looks and drives great so far and has just about everything you could want in conveniences/comforts with the Premium Tech Package.
