Mazda CX5

I was looking for was a smaller AWD SUV for economy. I also wanted an engine that would perform reasonably well to get me up mountain passes. This fit the bill. I was also concerned about confort, it was appealing that I could purchase a model with power seat for the driver without having to pay too high a premium. I don't know about reliability because it's brand new, but Mazda has a pretty good record. Safety was another important factor and it scored well in that area.

Looks Like a Lexus only half the price!

Side by side with a Lexus 350 and you can't tell them apart. Our new Mazda gets good gas mileage and has comfortable seats. Like the navigation and Bluetooth. My only complaint is lack of interior storage for odds and ends like coins, etc. It could also use a fold down arm rest for the driver which would make things a bit more comfortable while on long drives. It accelerates quickly and is quiet. I especially like the added safety features. I think this is the best of the smaller SUVs on the market and is worth a look by anyone.. I got mine fully equipped for $30k out the door.

So FUN to drive for an SUV!!!

When I traded in my Bimmer, I test drove several cars and even before trading it in (2007 328i), I began to have buyer's remorse as the cars I test drove made me really miss the BMW...until I drove the G37. I then thought, "Ok, these are pretty comparable vehicles with advantages to each." So the standard was set pretty high. Fast forward almost 2 years later, and by now it been 3.5 years in a coupe (the first 1.5 in the BMW), and I want some SPACE! I'd always loathe SUVs, having driven a V8 4Runner, Honda Pilot, and Lexus RX330 and was worried I'd ever be able to get used to the horrible handling, sloppy braking, and "floaty" feeling and the need to tap the brakes around corners. Well, enter the CX-5. I am so impressed with this little SUV in the way it brakes, steers, and handles corners (I mean not as good as the 328 and the G37 but well enough that I don't miss those cars). I got the Touring AWD so I have peace of mind if snow ever comes, peace of mind with the Blind Spot Monitoring, rear parking sensors and backup camera, and I absojutely LOVE the streaming BT and the adaptive bi-xenon headlights. The only option I wished it had was a lane departure system. I needed an SUV that gets great city gas mileage in the 20-something range, was not so wide so I can fit in compact spaces, yet be hold to hold some cargo, and have tons of technology. The gas mileage requirement eliminated the RDX and the X3 and Land Rovers, which I like. The technology features beat out the Mini Countryman. So the choice was simple: Mazda. I'm still very happy with my purchase decision. GREAT job, Mazda!!!

great car

Great drive, good security features, economical, love the media center in the Touring model, not too big, not too small.

Much better than Honda and Toyota

I love my ZOOM ZOOM SUV of a CX-5 Mazda with more agile ride and software new displays. It has the best third row seating and controls are supportive plush everything is very easy to operate with controls being perfect selecting and perfect touch screen/audio system. I wish it was like the Mitsubishi Outlander with paddle shifter's as giving more loud horsepower when needing and having more mpg as gets good mpg. It's smooth and fast for a SUV with smaller length to have a 4 cylinder so quick even automatic or six speed manual still be best with all the performance. Good interior room it has and feels a lot more comfortable than the Honda CR'V i test drove at the dealership before buying a new Mazda it was fun on the test drive and Toyota's new Rav4 is nice but didn't have the performance and looked to top of the line with the harder seats and dashboard wasn't too speculator as the visibility was too low and riding was harsh. I've stick with another Mazda had nothing but great cars from Mazda wish gotten the more funner Mazda 6 it has upgraded a whole lot but i'm crazy about my ZOOM ZOOM CX'5 Mazda nice little crossover.

Great combination of features, value, performance

I researched cars my whole life to keep up on the best available. The CX5 is great handling (better than almost all cars), top SUV mileage(32 mpg highway), great value, small on the outside, but a lot of storage on inside. It looks great, has more features than almost all cars, and is fun to drive. The car is the best in value than all competition (reviews rank it highest in its class). The reliability is xlnt (have owned 2 Mazdas previously). Even Consumer Reports ranks Mazda and Subaru as the top two brands overall.

Awesome ride/looks/safety/price/MPGs!!

I just got one of these, and I love it! It's very fun to drive, especially with the 2.5L, 184HP engine that comes with my Touring FWD package. Passing is a breeze, even at 70mph on I-95. Steering is very responsive. The driving experience is a 10/10 for me, but what really sold me was the high safety ratings and great fuel economy. I've averaged 30mpg with mixed driving over 1 month/2000 miles thus far, so it has lived up to its ratings. The instant mpg-ometer shows 35-40mpgs when you're cruising around 60mph, so it's even better on long trips. This is a really cool looking car too! I'm more about practicality than looks, but I get it all in the CX-5 without looking like a soccer mom driving a CR-V or RAV4. All that, plus the best price tag among its similarly equipped competitors, so I definitely recommend! Other notes: + Great head/leg/shoulder room in all seats (I'm 6'2'' male) + Useful technology: power seats, backup camera, bluetooth/pandora, blind spot monitoring, etc + Tan interior option is a must for those of us sweating it out in the Southeast year-round - Voice commands took some getting used to - Less cargo room than some competitors (but still plenty for me) - I wish the center console was slightly longer since I like to rest my elbows when driving on the highway. - Sometimes the blind spot monitoring beeps at me even when I think I have enough room to pass, but I view it as my "Don't Be a Jerk" alarm since I just moved from Massachusetts where cutting people off is standard practice. (If you unfortunately still drive in Mass, you can turn this feature off.)

It's like a reliable X3

Got rid of a scab of a car called a BMW X3. Drove the Mazda when the 2.0 was the only engine available and decided it was a tad too slow (highway merge AWD auto). Once I read the 2.5 was coming I set up a test and purchased a Pearl White GT-AWD. I agree with a previous poster that the motor has a little NVH issue at idle.......but it really doesn't bother me. I understand what I have here and it is incredible. I struggled to average 15 in the Bimmer, and I am averaging 26 in the Mazda with the 2.5 auto AWD. The engine is a work of art IMO, and the way it works with the transmission is really cool. This car understands exactly what your right foot is telling it and it gets you in the power band right away, torque has been greatly improved. Highway merging is a blast. I also opted for the GPS which is a TomTom based unit which works very well. A few minor digs: Road noise, and touch screen smear, no memory seats, other than than 7K miles and we're all smiles.
