Love this car!
I've had my 2014 CX5 GT now for 1000 miles. It's getting 27 - 28 MPG on mixed city / highway driving. I got the "stormy blue" with the sand leather interior fully loaded with the tech package for $30K. I previously drove a Toyota RAV4 V6 and was a little nervous going to the 4 cylinder but I don't even notice the change. I live in Colorado and have taken it up I 70 and in the foot hills and it has plenty of power to go and keep up with the big boys. I love the 9 speaker Bose sound system and how it's integrated with my iPhone so I can listen to Pandora and all my music. It came with Sirius but I haven't used that too much yet. The CX5 has a slightly shorter length than my RAV4 so it fits in the garage better. It's turning radius is better too. The decrease in road noise is substantial and makes me glad I have the backup monitor and the blind spot alert. I don't think I've ever had a car I've enjoyed driving so much as this. My college age kids say that it has a "smooth" ride and it looks "awesome". I've been a Toyota buyer for 20 years. I've converted.

Do not buy a CX-5
I have owned my CX-5 for a year and have 34,000 miles on it. From the beginning I had a problem with a rattle that turned out to be my sunglass rattling in the sunglass holder in the top center console. THe holder doesn't have enough padding so the sunglasses rattle against the plastic and Mazda will not fix the problem. No matter how conservatively I drive I don't get anywhere near the gas mileage they advertise. The transmission seeks for a gear when going up a hill. The passenger compartment is loud when on the highway. The bluetooth has very limited functions. The XM radio has a log delay when changing stations. The customer service from Mazda is terrible. I have gotten better customer service from GM and they were pretty bad. This is my first and last Mazda!!!!

Love this car
Love this car. The GT model has everything that I wanted. The ride is great, lots of room the back. The gas mileage could be better but is not bad for a small SUV. The acceleration is good for a 4 cylinder.

Excellent Car for Small Budget
I enjoyed this car a lot! The price is incredible with what comes in the package. I ended up purchasing the Touring version with roof racks. The car drives as smoothly as my Lexus sedan and definitely shifted gears better than my previous Ford Edge.

Excellent Choice for Crossover
Disclaimer: This is my second Mazda. I set out to purchase another AWD Cross-over and decided on the CX-5 GT w/tech package. After 3,000 miles the vehicle performs very well. Good visibility around 3-sides, back-up camera is the perfect touch for the rear. The engine is smooth, the transmission shifts seamlessly. The seats are very comfortable. The vehicle handles well around turns, and on the highway accelerating to speed. The blind spot monitoring works well as does the rain sensing wipers. The adaptive headlights are great around and through turns and up hills. Lastly, the remaining features all seem integrated well and our smart phone connects easily to the sound system. The navigation system provides lots of information, but the manual is lacking in some of the details. All in all, this is a well configured, and integrated vehicle. It is fun to drive and is a great replacement for my previous Mazda, with much better gas mileage.

What u should know before you buy
I bought the mazda cx5 2014 touring 2.5L AWD The car is great, an i would recommend it to you if u wanna buy it. But there are some things that you should know before you buy it: 1- my average MPG is around 22 2- touch to start but no touch button on the outside door. so you have to take the key out of your pocket to open to open the car. 3- it doesn't have garage remote door opener. 4- although driver's seat is electrical, passenger's seat is manual. 5- it has cruise control but doesnt have assistive cruise control (which i've seen in a competitor at the same price) I am not saying that you shouldn't buy it. Just keep those things in mind when you're comparing the prices with other competitors.

Great vehicle
I have the 2014 CX-5 Grand Touring without the tech package. I've only had this vehicle for 1 week, but so far I love it. I smile every time I drive it. Before purchasing, I checked out the Santa Fe, Outback, Forester, and test drove the CRV. Many of these vehicles are very similar, but ultimately the good reviews on many Internet sites, the good looks, the fun to drive factor, great gas mileage, and previously owning a Mazda brought us to this decision. I'm considering buying the TomTom navigation system separately. Although the reviews aren't convincing, I still think this being integrated with the screen would be nice to have. The only minor negative that I have so far is it has trouble hearing which number I want to dial when using the voice command. Multiple tries are often necessary (or you could dial manually). I don't think incoming text messaging works either ... hopefully this bug will be fixed soon.

Love it!
I have owned my GT w/Touring Package for four months. I have taken a couple road trips; my CX5 now has over 5K miles. MPG is excellent! It averages 27MPG city and over 35 hway - computed the old fashioned way miles driven/gal. The only time it has been in the shop was for the recommended 5K oil change. During highway driving I average ~75 MPH, unlike some reports, I have not experienced high road or engine noise. At all speeds, I am able to converse with a passenger at normal voice levels. Cooling (A/C) is excellent, especially for the size of this vehicle. The Bose sound system is adequate. Voice control works well, except for the Tom Tom nav system which has difficulties understanding a street address. It is a comfortable and fun vehicle to drive. My daughter liked mine so well that she bought one for herself.

Great Buy
I have driven the CX-5 now for 3 months, and have loved every second of it. First, i test-drove the CR-V, RAV4, and CX5. I ended up buying the CX5 Touring FWD with the Moon Roof/Bose package. My family is grwowing, and we needed more space than my Mazda3 provided. I have read all the reviews and the one that stands out in my mind as bogus is the screen size. It's not the biggest, but it doesn't really seem overly small when placed in the dash. If you are used to a bigger one, then it will seem small, but if you haven't ever had one you won't even notice. Pros (Touring Model): Standard safety features (rear-view camera, blind spot monitoring) HD radio - i never knew radio could be so clear Cargo space is large 40-20-40 foldable seats arrangement is versatile Driving experience is greater than others i test drove Cons The visibility out the rear-view mirror is limited. No rear-air vents (granted, CR-V and RAV4 don't have this either) Since this will be our family vehicle, we also added in the cloth protection, DVD screens in the headrests, the rubber floor mats and cargo tray, and the cargo cover. All of that came out to about 28K when all was said and done. I think that's a great price when comparable CR-V/RAV4's would have been at about 30K from what i researched.

Home Run...Should be a Hit!
The 2014 Mazda CX-5 is the absolute perfect car ? if your criteria is: 1) Drives like a small BMW sedan, 2) Carries camping gear, bikes and kayaks down bad dirt roads to your favorite primitive campground. For a compact cross-over SUV it is high on utility and it is the first SUV where the S truly does mean sports car-like. However, it is not the perfect car if your criteria includes: 1) Tomb-quiet interior under all road conditions and speeds, 2) Zero intrusion of road-feel of any kind through the brakes, steering or suspension or 3) Extended off-road terrain crawling. Despite high ground clearance, fairly high seating position and a tall SUV body, it corners fast with no discernible body lean. At any semi-sane speed it is quiet inside, and the ride is composed over marginal surfaces. The steering is very precise - both light at parking speed and well weighted for feedback at higher speeds. The suspension allows for full power acceleration and cornering over broken and undulating surfaces with no drama. Brake modulation is linear with little pedal travel and no unexpected grab as you approach full foot pressure. The engine produces good torque from about 2200 rpm. This minimizes downshifting of the 6 speed automatic when accelerating after a traffic slow-down, or when going uphill with additional people or gear on-board. It also pulls quite strongly to over 5000 rpm ? great for 40-70 mph passing. Acceleration is responsive enough to put a smile on your face coming out of a twisty turn in 3rd gear. Rapid manual up-shifting and down-shifting is easy with the lever pulled over into the manual shift gate next to your right thigh. Even in manual mode, stomping the gas produces an instant kick-down to the lowest gears. In automatic mode the optimum gear is selected immediately, even downshifting when approaching a stop or when going down hill. The exterior styling is sleek, muscular and emotive without being overdone. The interior is elegant rather than flashy, even a bit austere ? like an Italian suit. Small buttons and virtual buttons on touch screens are minimized in favor of rotating knobs and push switches that provide tactile feedback and can be found and operated without taking your eyes off the road. An excellent balance of function vs. fashion. The wide use of soft-touch materials adds to the impression of quality. The seats are initially firm, but feel comfortable and supportive even after several hours on the road. Substantial side bolsters keep you in place during spirited cornering. Rear seating and leg/foot room is spacious for 2 adults, but ?cozy? for 3 adults. The driver?s seat adjusts for height, tilt and lumbar support. When combined with the tilt and telescoping steering, drivers of all sizes should find a perfect position. The 3 individually folding 40-20-40 seat backs will accommodate a mountain bike with the front wheel still attached, or 2 adults in the rear seats plus long items like skis or 2X4s. Mine is a Grand Touring All Wheel Drive with Tech Package. It includes a Bose stereo, sunroof, back-up camera, Xenon High Intensity headlights (that steer with the front wheels and self-level as people and gear are added), leather seats, Bluetooth, a Tom-Tom nav system plus blind spot monitoring and low speed collision avoidance. It has the highest EPA gas mileage results among the 20+ compact SUV models. And according to owner reviews it regularly returns better highway mileage than the EPA figure. My cumulative average mileage for 1050 miles of mountain roads and highways is 27 mpg. Currently Consumer Reports predicts that long term reliability will be well above average.
