Thank goodness they made a bigger engine

Bought a CX-5 Touring in April and love the vehicle. After driving it now for almost four months I do have some complaints with the vehicle. Trust me there is a ton of good in this vehicle so if you think I do not like it, think again. First, the engine. 2.5l 185hp works fine, but even the bigger engine could use some extra hp to move this CUV. I get up to around 60 mph and that is where this engine seems to be happy. Going faster, makes the engine work harder and road noise starts to become a factor. The engine handles the work, but does it a little louder. Second, the AC. Because the vehicle is poorly insulated (to reduce weight) it is very hard to keep the vehicle cool while driving. Passengers in the back complain of being hot and there is not really much that can be done to help them. I would suggest for Mazda to install a 2nd row vent system in future models. Forget having your moon roof open. If you do, the car works even harder to cool itself. Last, is interior lighting. A trunk light is usually the norm but the Mazda has nothing. Not sure why a simple light could not be installed. The loves of this vehicle are plenty. The drive sells this vehicle. When used to drive around the city and not the highways this vehicle is perfect. Plenty of pep, engine is quiet and responsive, and there is very little road noise. The Bose system in the CUV is well done, and even though the Nav screen is small, it is perfect for this vehicle. Controls and push buttons work well and the interior matches well with it. I love the seats and the looks of this CUV and it looks like I may be a Mazda fan for life now.

First New Car

Love it, good performance and great MPG for an SUV. Nice interior and decent enough tech in the cabin.

Great looking, still needs work

I own a 2014 Touring. The new engine is a big improvement over the 2013 - smooth with good power. The CX5 handles better than most SUVs, taking corners closer to car-like than others I test drove. It also gets excellent gas mileage compared to other SUVs. Fit and finish are excellent with comfortable cloth seats. The blind spot monitors and rearview camera are excellent safety features, and there is a good amount of trunk space with easy fold seats. However, the rear seat headrests should be able to tilt forward so the seats could fold all the way down without hitting and stopping on the front seats - this can only be done if the front seats are moved all the way forward as if the driver is well under 5' tall.. Otherwise the back seat headrests need to be removed to fold the seats all the way down. While the CX5 has many positives, the problems I've noted since owning it take a lot away from this car and make me doubt I will keep it very long: the driver's window door ledge is at a right angle rather than rounded like most vehicles and is not well-padded making it extremely uncomfortable to rest my left arm while driving. Similarly, the center console/armrest is too low and not well-padded, making resting my right arm/elbow difficult. Since I am 6'1" and the steering wheel does not telescope very far out, this makes it fatiguing for tall drivers to have to have their arms outstretched all the time or have uncomfortable places to rest elbows. The base stereo speakers on the Touring model are awful - much worse than stock speakers on other cars I've owned. The projector headlights bounce far more than other cars and are distracting. The CX-5 is a great looking SUV, but it needs work.

Love the CX5 GT

We bought the CX5 about a month ago and we still love it. It has not disappointed us. We test drove several vehicles and the CX5 beat the others hands down. Pros: Acceleration, safety, handling, mpg, interior Cons: Ride is a little stiff, some noise We love the blind spot monitoring and the back-up camera. We have over a 1000 miles on it in mixed driving and it is getting 26 mpg in the city and a little over 30 mpg on the highway. So we are thrilled with the mpg. It handles like a sports car and feels very responsive when you step on the gas. We bought the GT with the Tech package and feel like we got a lot of value for our money. I like the interior and it has a "solid" feel to it. It is well laid out and the touch screen is easy to use. We looked at other models and they did not seem to be as nice inside. No buyers remorse here! ZOOM ZOOM

2014 Cx5 touring fwd very impressed

Pros: Great milage, 28 city, averaging around 30mpg. Seats are comfortable. Front vision very good. Interior functional and designed well. Exterior designed well, looks solid and well styled. Rear camera and blindspot monitors are nice features especially if you are not use to using mirrors. Drives sporty, very responsive in acceleration and steering. A real pleasure to drive, not tiring. Voice command audio with BT helps keep your attention on the road. Seats 4 comfortably but could squeeze in 5. The sound of the Bose system is very good. Moonroof is also a nice option, brightens interior and ventilates. Should be able to tow up to 2000lbs max. Fog lamps and 17" alloy wheels also nice. Cons: Slightly rough ride and road noise on certain roads. Rear vision is poor if you are used to looking over shoulders when changing lanes. Ignition button view blocked by wiper control. Noisy engine when first started but is barely audible when warm. Not many miles on it yet so reliability is not known.

Love my CX5

It only has 800 miles so far. But I love it. Blind spot monitoring and backup camera have saved me already! Comfy, fun, and great gas mileage! I've done ONLY city - all red lights. I've averaging 18 miles per hour - but getting over 25 miles to the gallon! Can't wait to see how it does on a long trip if I ever get off work! Another fav - floor it and hold it - and WOW does it have get up and go for a four cylinder!! Great for "ack.. that truck is coming in my lane!" - wouldn't have bought a four cylinder except that give me the safety I need - coupled with great gas mileage. And the cargo area is much bigger than it seems. Very happy so far! If I HAD to complain - lack of storage on interior. No place to store my junk in the cabin on the car. Only one small center console. (old car had drawers under the seats - and much bigger center console). But I just bought a couple cloth bins and keep it on the floor next to me.

Builds Confidence on Dallas Freeways

This car purrs when pushed to enter short length onramps! I bought it because it had the best ride, best stereo of the six cross vehicles I test drove. I'm learning the technology package and am getting better everyday at using many features it includes. One of my favorites is the vehicle alert on the side mirrors. The dash controls are not overly designed.

Very good SUV

The only downside to this vehicle is the carpet. The carpet is not very good. I like the performance of this vehicle but it is not getting the MPG that was advertised.

Mazda cx5 zoom

I love the exterior look, the mpg has actually been very close to epa estimate and there is plenty of new tech. I do have one friendly warnig though, the keyless ignition makes it very easy to lock the fob in the vehicle. Along those lines i can also tell you that the roadside assistance is awsome lol. Seriously though its a great vehicle. Just remember always lock it with the fob.
