Expert 2007 Mercury Milan review

Vehicle Overview
Mercury has added more standard features to its midsize Milan sedan for the 2007 model year. Two of the bigger additions are side curtain and seat-mounted side-impact airbags, as well as all-wheel drive, which will come later in 2006. The Milan is related to the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ.

Serving as Mercury’s most-affordable model, but billed by the automaker as upscale and expressive, the sedan is available in two trim levels: standard and better-equipped Premier. A 2.3-liter four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter V-6 are available.

Exterior
For 2007, the Milan adds a new rear spoiler option and Silver Birch, Alloy Clearcoat and Dark Amethyst exterior colors.

The company says designers drew inspiration from large, modern cities when creating the Milan. Signature design cues include a waterfall grille and the use of trim with a satin-aluminum finish. Wide headlights wrap into the hood, and LED taillights are installed. The Milan has a short-/long-arm front suspension and a multilink rear suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes are used.

Interior
Designers looked at the finishes of home appliances and the details of finely crafted handbags for inspiration in styling the five-occupant interior. Leather upholstery is complemented by Satin Metallic or Wales Mahogany wood trim. Two-tone leather seats with contrast stitching are optional.

The automaker says that extending the back doors rearward improves rear-seat access for taller passengers. A spring-assisted mechanism can help fold down the 60/40-split rear seat. The trunk can hold 15.8 cubic feet of cargo, and a pass-thru into the passenger compartment allows long items to be carried.

The Milan has a six-way power driver’s seat, a CD stereo, an analog clock, remote keyless entry, power windows and door locks, and power heated mirrors. For 2007, an audio input jack for portable MP3 players and other devices is standard. An optional DVD-based navigation system will be added later in the 2007 model year.

Under the Hood
The Milan’s 2.3-liter four-cylinder produces 160 horsepower and drives either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission. Only a six-speed automatic is offered with the 221-hp, 3.0-liter V-6. Both engines run on regular-grade gasoline. Traction control is now standard on V-6 models.

Safety
Side-impact and side curtain airbags are standard, as are antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution.

Driving Impressions
The V-6-powered Milan starts off in a hurry and, after some delay, delivers ample acceleration for passing and merging. The automatic transmission is well-behaved most of the time, but it doesn’t change gears the same way every time. At low speeds, a modest jolt occasionally occurs with the shift.

Generally quiet, the Milan does exhibit some engine blare when accelerating hard. Certain road surfaces produce a bit of noise, too. Although the ride is generally satisfying, some rough spots induce rather harsh responses.

The Milan is spacious in front. The seats aren’t especially firm and provide modest support. Outboard rear occupants get ample room, but the center passenger must endure a rather hard perch and a serious shortage of headroom.

Though competent and capable in nearly every area, and sensible overall, the Milan doesn’t quite stand out from the pack. Except for some Mercury design cues and a bit more refinement, it’s not much different from its Ford Fusion sibling.

  • Literally most reliable car ever.

My 07 Milan 2.3 has been through a small war. It has taken everything I have given it and given me trouble free miles. Bought in 2012 with 97k miles it now has 210k miles and I have never done anything other than regular maintenance. Transmission fluid drops with Mazda M5 fluid every third oil change, mobil 1 every 5k. One set of brake pads. One CV axle and one wheel bearing. The car has never not started nor has it ever left me on the side of the road. I am full impressed and idly look for another one every so often. The only downside is... Finding good shocks and struts now are a pain in the xxx. Everything is firmer than the original ones and only are comfortable for about 10,000 miles. So I have changed the front struts about 6 times now, which is not the car's fault. It literally takes me 10 minutes a side now! I have tried every brand out there. Thinking about air shocks on my next Milan.

  • Great starter car

I got my 07 and 2019 and I totaled it July 2023 it was a good car the only issue it gave me was the O2 sensors she was pretty old she needed a new control arms but other than that she was a great automobile when I got her she had 128,000 miles V6 3.0 engine I really wish I didn't wreck her the airbags deployed and luckily there are a recall on but nothing happened to me she kept me safe as I collided into another car I only walked away with the sprained foot safe I would highly recommend this vehicle as a starter

  • Most reliable car I've Owned

If Mercury were still making this model car I would purchase it. The body style and performance was excellent and it never broke down. I recently helped my sister look for a used car and I was able to get her a great deal on a 2008 Mercury Milan.

  • Best car I?ve ever owned!!!!

I?ve owned it since June 2007, bought it new I?ve always owned Mercedes for business I still own this car and currently has 59,000 miles on it Except for a couple of batteries, nothing has ever gone wrong with it until recently when there was a problem with steering. It cost me $1800 and it was repaired by a ford dealer It?s always been 100% reliable A lot more reliable then any of the 6 Mercedes I?ve owned. With all of the Mercedes I was always spending money on repairs!!!! At 59,000 miles the original brakes on my Milan are still in great condition And yes, I service it every 4000 miles. Still looks great. The exterior styling makes it still look like a 2 or 3 year old car I don?t intend on getting a new car, I will keep this car!!!!!!!

  • Best car I?ve ever owned!!!!

Best car I?ve ever owned and I?ve owned about 15 cars!!!! The only things I?ve spent money on are tires and a battery!!! About 57,000 miles on it and brakes are still in great shape!!! I change oil every 5000 miles and did a good 50,000 mile maintenance. The body style still looks modern I?ve thought about buying a new car but there?s no reason to Thank you Mercury!!!!

  • It's an okay car

For a luxury car, it could be better. Some parts on the inside of my car are starting to just break or fall apart. I also have circuit issues in the car my headlights go out all the time. It rides smooth for the most part, though it can be a little rough driving it at times. Overall it is a decent car if you maintain it well and show it some TLC!
