our expert's take

What Is the 2025 Nissan Frontier?

The Nissan Frontier is a mid-size pickup truck with two available cab configurations. The King Cab has smaller rear-hinged doors for backseat access, while the crew cab has four full-size doors. Buyers can also choose a 5- or 6-foot bed and rear- or four-wheel drive. All are powered by a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated V-6 engine that makes 310 horsepower and 281 pounds-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Of note is the Pro-4X off-road variant, which features increased ground clearance, Bilstein dampers, underbody skid plates and all-terrain tires. The Frontier’s competitors include the Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Ranger, GMC Canyon and Toyota Tacoma. If you’re interested in pickup utility without the comfort compromises, be sure to check out the Honda Ridgeline, while buyers who want more customization options should look at the Jeep Gladiator.

What’s New on the 2025 Nissan Frontier?

Nissan updated the Frontier for 2025 with a restyled front end that gives it a more modern look. It also added a redesigned dashboard with a standard tilt-and-telescoping steering column and an available 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Towing capacity has increased across the board, up to a maximum of 7,150 pounds, and the crew-cab body style with the 6-foot box is now available in the SL and Pro-4X trim levels in addition to the SV. A slew of additional safety tech is now standard, including lane departure warning, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control and rear parking sensors.

What Features in the 2025 Nissan Frontier Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 8-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wired)
  • Wi-Fi
  • Keyless entry and start
  • Four speakers
  • Dampened assist tailgate to prevent slamming open
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Blind spot warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rear parking sensors

Available features include:

  • 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 120-volt household power outlets in cab and bed
  • LED head- and taillights
  • Moonroof
  • Spray-in bedliner
  • Power-adjustable front seats
  • Leather upholstery
  • Heated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • 10-speaker Fender sound system
  • Surround-view parking camera

Should I Buy the 2025 Nissan Frontier?

The Frontier rides comfortably and handles well, but it doesn’t stand out in any particular area. Its towing and payload capacities are competitive, but rivals have more technologically advanced powertrains that are both more powerful and boast better fuel economy. Some interior bits and pieces still feel a little cheap after the update for 2025, and neither the front nor the rear seats are terribly comfortable.

Only negative about the Frontier is the way to hang up clothes behind the seat. Not a convenient hook for clothes hangers, so rigged up a line across from side to side. Very happy with everything else about the Frontier.
