Expert 2008 Nissan Pathfinder review

our expert's take
Our expert's take

our expert's take

Vehicle Overview
The 2008 Pathfinder is relatively unchanged, aside from the newly available V-8 engine. Larry Dominique, Nissan vice president of product planning, said a V-8 was added to the Pathfinder lineup in response to customer demand for more engine power. Rated at 300-plus horsepower, the V-8 gives the seven-seat Pathfinder SUV the ability to tow up to 7,000 pounds when properly equipped. The Pathfinder’s center dash controls have also been redone and now have a more refined appearance.

Exterior
For the most part, the Pathfinder looks much like last year’s model. The front bumper has been mildly restyled and the doors have new rub strips. Standard aluminum wheels measure 16 inches in diameter, but 17- and 18-inch wheels are offered. A sunroof is optional.

Interior
The Pathfinder has room for seven. Cloth seats are standard and leather seats are optional. The available navigation system includes a 9.3 GB hard drive that can hold music files. Dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a Bose sound system and a DVD entertainment system are optional.

Under the Hood
The base 4.0-liter V-6 makes 266 hp, while the optional 5.6-liter V-8 produces 300-plus hp and 380-plus pounds-feet of torque. The engines both team with a five-speed automatic transmission. Rear- and four-wheel-drive models are available.

Safety
All-disc antilock brakes, active front head restraints and an electronic stability system are standard. Side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags and power-adjustable pedals are optional.

  • Best vehicle I have owned.

I bought this vehicle 10 years ago & now have over 200,000 miles on odometer. Best vehicle I have owned & I have had many. Very little repairs needed. I drive it every day, pull trailers with it & never failed to start.

  • Low mileage but terrible vehicle

The vehicle had low mileage but it squeaks, drives rough and didn't smell very good. The vehicle will need lots if work to be up to par.

  • Rugged but high maintenance

We bought the v8 4wd without needing the v8 for anything other than the joy of driving it. It gets 15 mpg if you baby it, 13 mpg if you hammer on it and always seems to need something repaired but we love it. It’s uncomfortable, unstable and guzzles fuel but it’s super fun to drive, looks cool, it’s good off road and it’s great in the snow. It’s faster than most cars, tows like a truck and its easy to park. The leg room is terrible front and rear, it feels really top heavy and it costs me about $1600 in annual repairs. That being said, it has true 4wd, over 310hp, tons of torque, looks cool and I would totally buy another one.

  • Great car

The car is perfect for my family. We are a family of 5 and it is a great car. It's got a lot of room where my kids can be separated on long trips and have no fighting.

  • My friends are jealous

I love my 2008 LE V8, I bought this used about 6 months ago after a hail storm totalled my 09 SE V6. The difference is substantial. It's my grocery getting race car. It's super quiet and it's the ultimate sleeper. I've had kids in their f150s try and race me and I leave them bewildered and embarrassed but aside from raw power this thing is refined and puts around just fine. The only problem I had was cracked exhaust manifolds but after having them repaired it's been perfect. If you can find one that's not been abused, pick one up. It's a pleasure to drive and the features are great. Mine is an LE 4x4 and in my opinion it is the best multipurpose vehicle around.

  • Hated to trade it in

Loved my Pathfinder. But we got a third dog and when the puppy got big and needed a larger crate there simply wasn't enough room to put a third big dog crate in it. With regular maintenance it ran like a top for 253,000 miles.

  • A delight to drive my Pearl !

Purchased my first Pathfinder and couldn't be happier all with the help of the great people At DURST MOTOR CO. At 115 "O" Street. They wanted to make sure I was completely happy with my purchase. I am very happy with the quality and dependability of my purchase. Money well spent ! So glad I found this place to purchase my vehicle. When your spending this kind of money you want to go to people you can trust. I really felt they waned the best for me they had it looking like a brand new vehicle. People I know thought it was brand new. I am very happy with my new car and would go back again when I need to get another vehicle down the road because of the way I was treated at DURST MOTORS.
