Great value

I had previously owned a toyota echo and was a little dissapointed to find out that the xb has the same engine. But I love the add on features, (ie interior lights) it also looks great with a nice set of rims!!

This is one roomy, reliable, fun-to-drive box !

After shopping around for the hard-to-find Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris, I reluctantly gave the unconventional Scion xB a test drive. Wow - what a find! The interior was a spacious as anything in it's sub-compact/compact wagon class, with a full 8"+ of headroom above my 6' frame. The rear seats have unbelievable legroom, and when easily adjusted to the flat position, the cargo area is vast. Getting in and out of the car is unlike any other - there's no up or down to it - just slide across. The drivers layout is simple and smart - everything is where it should be, from the center guage cluster to the HVAC controls to the killer standard stereo - complete with CD/MP3 playback and auxilliary MP3 input jack. The AC chilled the entire cabin within 5 minutes - and it was a 92-degree afternoon. Vision is fantastic thanks to a huge windshield. Performance is what you'd expect from an efficient Toyota-built 4-cylinder engine. I had no problems highway cruising at 80mph, and although it revs a little going up steep hills and in the passing lane, power never seemed lacking. Handling is excellent. The boxy build is amazingly stable, with very little roll. Rain and rain wasn't even a factor, thanks to the balanced feel and automatic traction control. The list of standard features is long, and with a combined 33 MPG and Toyota quality, it's a superb deal at under $16,000. I've driven a LOT of econoboxes in the last 20 years, but this is without a doubt the finest yet.

Just bought a used 2006 with 8000 miles on it. Got a great deal fully loaded. I am enjoying my new car, receiving plenty of compliments, very few negative on the style but once i show them the inside most change thier minds instantly!

Perfect for most anyone

I've had my black xB for 2 years now and have put 27,000 miles on it. It's been completely trouble-free despite considerable abuse, including some unintentional off-roading and driving over mountain passes completely loaded from floor to ceiling and another 2 feet high on the roof. I had been considering buying one for a while when my previous car died suddenly. I appreciated the fact that I could just call up the dealer and say "I'll take a black 5-speed, please" and pick it up the next day with no negotiation, hassles, or options packages. I was in the dealership for about 45 minutes total, including financing. They all have the basic power options most people want. Everything else is a dealer add-on than can be done with the sale or later on if you change your mind. It's quick around town, smooth on the freeway, and has amazing visibility. I've avoided accidents I might not have in another car because of the upright seating position and great view in all directions. The interior room is incredible considering it's only a few inches longer than a Mini Cooper. It's extremely easy to get in and out - it would make a great car for people who have bad backs or need to load small children in and out. The only reason to get something bigger is if you need to carry more than 3 passengers or needed to haul items too big to fit. The black paint is a bit of a pain, though. If I had to do it over again I'd get an xB without hesitation, but probably a lighter color.

My little black toaster

I have owned my 2006 scion xb for about six weeks and have put over 4500 miles on the odometer. I purchased this car after driving a 1999 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 1500 4x4. The interior room is astounding, I am over 6'3" tall and have ample legroom in the front or rear seats. Mileage has run from a low of 29 on the first tank to a high of 34mpg. This is with a manual transmission. So the EPA estimates are right on the money. Performance is actually very good for such a little engine. With two passengers and a weekends worth of luggage crammed in the car vigorous mountain driving was very fun. No race car but has plenty of passing power for spirited driving in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, even at 7000ft elevation. The fit and finish of the car is typical Toyota, excellent. If I had to find a fault on the car I would have to say the only thing I do not like is the cheap sun visors. they seem very cheap. The upside is they work perfectly . so I gues I would have to give it a score of 99.97 out of 100. Out of 33 new cars in the last 27 years this is without a doubt the most practical fun to drive car I have ever owned.

xB

32 mph, plenty of room for 4, with the back seats down flat there is adequate room for "stuff." You won't break any 0 to 75 records but it does OK getting there & staying there. Really windy day I get some "cross buffeting" but otherwise it's great! Bright yellow and surfboard on top we do get the "looks." This is car number 195 out of a production line of 2,500. Sound system is excellent for this size car. Negitives: interior lights are poor at best (very minor). Yes we would and are going to buy another - ugh - plain old white.

2006 Scion xB

We took delivery of our new xb - Shadow Mica - 2 weeks ago. We replaced my wife's 8 year old Saturn which had been problematic over the past 3 years. We were initially considering a Matrix but we decided to look at the xB because my 10 year old son said it had the "cool factor". We were not sold on the looks at first, but this all changed the moment we drove it. The car is almost as practical as my Honda Element and is actually much more fun to drive, not to mention better on fuel. The interior room is amazing for such a small car and the price is great for all the standard features you get. We added some nice wheels, mats and a cargo net. This car reminded us of the many quirky, small cars we saw during our recent trip to Italy. My wife does mostly city driving and this car is absolutely perfect. It has also become our "family car" for weekend excursions. I am expecting the reliability to be very good due to its Toyota parentage. If you are considering a small, fuel effiecent car - you would be making a mistake if you didn't test drive the xB!

Scion xB in Gloucester, MA

Bought mine in January 2006. Great styling, reliable, fun and easy to drive w/5 speed manual, good initial quality, great sound system, good in snow, lots of interior room. It is an inexpensive short-wheelbase car, though, and is lightweight with a tinny sound when the doors are closed. You feel like you are driving a tin can, so you'd better drive defensively! Great value for the money, definitely recommend.

Perfect car if you have two rapidly growing kids..

Backseats are cramped in every car except mini-vans and SUVs...and with today's gas prices, who wants to be driving a mini-van or an SUV just to tote around a couple of kids?? A family vacation on one tank of gas, with optional video games/DVD player with headphones in back for the boys, optional iPod jack and a great stereo for me, tons of room for us and all of our stuff, and 34 mpg...kinda makes you forget it's probably the ugliest looking car on the road. Handles beautifully, and amazingly quiet for such an inexpensive vehicle. Highly recommend getting the cargo net option if you plan on using it to get groceries. The standard bag hooks are fine, but don't work too well if there are people in that back seat.
