Best Bang For Your Buck

Bought my '08 Tundra new in Jan. '08 and currently have approx. 45K miles on it. Interior room up front is more than adequate with bucket seats and center console. Double cab is excellent for passengers, or extra storage with the flip-up rear seat. Unfortunately, no towing package (will upgrade eventually). Performance is outstanding, put your foot down on the 'go pedal' and hang on! I really appreciate the side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability and traction controls. Safety was definitely a priority to the Toyota engineers and it shows. The only gripe I have, is the cost of ownership. Some of the scheduled maintenance can be pricey, that coupled with it's less than stellar fuel economy are my only complaints. In my opinion, these drawbacks are outweighed by the outstanding performance, interior comfort and safety and all-around utility of this truck. My father owns an '06 Tundra Double Cab 4.7l and says he wished he would've waited for the new body style, (it is a pretty sharp looking ride). You can buy a cheaper truck, but for my money, I'll be keeping this one till I 'drive the tires off it'!

Highly Recommend Tundra

So after doing multiple test drives and long hours researching pickup trucks, I went with an 08 Tundra. I was in the market for a used pickup truck, and found that the Tundra's for sale within $16-20,000 are newer, faster, etc. all around better than the other comparable trucks for around that price range. I have a 4.7L V8 and, although it may not be the big 5.7L V8, it is a rocket ship for a truck. I cannot believe how quickly this thing gets off the line (not to mention the PHENOMENAL sound it makes when you put the hammer down). I love the looks of it, and you have SO much storage for things on the interior. My tundra is a 4X2 Double cab normal bed. I have 11 cup holders, a gigantic laptop center console, two glove compartments, etc. I could store so much stuff in my truck that I wouldn't even need. The rear seats may look cramped like other trucks but don't be fooled, the angle at which the rear seats in the tundra have you sit angle you back so you get a significant amount of leg room. Everyone who rides in my truck always talks about how much leg room there is in the back. Also, i get a lot of people telling me how comfortable, quiet, and smooth the ride is. It is almost like a Lexus in a sense that it has very Lexus-like features in terms of comfort. I added after market running boards (essential if you don't do a lot of heavy off-roading). My only two complaints about the tundra are this: 1. This car is fun when you floor the pedal - thus you can get as little as 8.5 mpg while doing so. My first week owning the tundra I had so much fun getting up to 60 mph from red lights that i didn't realize how much fuel i was wasting. Drive conservatively, however, and you should get anywhere between 12-15 mpg. My second complaint has nothing to do with toyota, but rather the stock tires (at least for me) that toyota chose. I currently have a set of bridgestone dueler H/T's on my truck and, while they may be quiet and smooth, they get awful traction and treadwear. I would advise anyone buying a tundra to make sure that the dueler H/T's are not on the truck before buying (if used), and request that different tires be put on or buy a new set the instant you buy the tundra because these tires are terrible. The create a vibration in the steering wheel at 75 mph. Alternate tires that are good that some of my buddies have are the Pirreli scorpions and the Hankook Dynapro ATM. Other than that, the tundra is a handsome, powerful, comfortable, reliable, half-ton pickup truck that has served me well and will continue to serve me well for many more years to come. I love it, and recommend it for anyone, especially those who like to get the best "bang for their buck". Quality pickup truck.

Rock Solid Truck

Absolutely bullet proof powertrain that can handle anything you throw at it. Super smooth power and transmission. Hauling a heavy, heavy trailer feels effortless. Rides like a truck so it's not a luxurious ride but it's not horrible either. It's certainly the best truck I've ever owned and it does both farm and city duty so it has seen just about everything. I must say Toyota dealers are terrible when it comes to dealing with truck owners. They treat you like you're an idiot and it's really insulting. I've only been in once and I will never be back. I'll handle all of my own maintenance from here on out.

Almost perfect

I really enjoy my Tundra: smooth, powerful, pretty good gas mileage for an almost 400 hp V-8 (17mpg average). The areas I've had issues: a few recalls: 4-wheel drive transfer case/axels: replaced free, transmission seems to be sluggish when cold for just a few seconds (will this become a problem?) and the paint chips easily. Also, the stability control goes OFF in 4-wheel drive, which none of the other big trucks do. I usually only go into 4_wheel drive in the snow and would like the extra stability if I start slipping. Otherwise it has been a real work horse, towing trailers, hauling yard waste and the like. Very quiet, smooth and powerful. I HATE dealing with the dealer: they can't even do an oil change without screwing up: it takes 7qts oil and they always put between 5-6 in. I always check before I leave the dealer.

transmission problems

I have had my 2008 Tundra in the two Toyota dealerships with 75 miles of my home in East texas for the same problems The transmission. When your stop the truck it feels and sounds like the drive shaft has slack in it. Both dealers have had thier transmission folks drive it and both have said, all Tundra's have the same problem and it is nothing to worry about. Has Toyota had any recalls on this problems?

Seven in the fleet

In 2007 I went with a Toyota fleet salesman's advice and ordered 3 DC SR5 Tundra's to add to our fleet of pickups. We were pleasantly surprised with how well these trucks performed out in the work site. These trucks were used to shuttle men and women for crew changes on the pipeline. In the three years that we have had them we have had zero problems after putting on from 98,000-112,000 miles of mixed driving [hi way and off road] We have since signed on for 4 more in 2010.

The best overall

In november of 2008 I test drove the the Chevy, Ford, Dodge, and Toyota. All were equiped with similiar features. The Tundra was a doublecab with the 5.7L, SR5, TRD packages. I found compaired with other trucks that had the offroad pack., it drove smoother. And was quieter than all except the Ford. The truck has fantastic acceleration, although tip in is alittle abrupt. Brakes are strong with a little more travel then what you would expect. The interior materials are not on par with what you would expect from Toyota. With the floor shifter it comfortably seats five. And the center console is so large you could put a small child in there. Check with local traffic laws before attemting. I have now owned the truck for 13 months. Gas mileage has increase for 15/18 to 16/20. However I do not have lead in my shoe and I run Amsoil synthetic 0-20 Signiture series. Changeing the oil is a long process with the TRD. All in all the truck is a Toyota that says quality. I would recommand this truck.

Certified Preowned

Spent lots of hours researching this Toyota Model. Also compared to 09 Ram, Titan, and Chevy. Decided to buy Certified Preowned for the better warranty. Previously owned a 2000 Tundra. Decided to go back to Toyota. More bang for your buck. I can't believe this is a pick up! Drives like a luxury car. Take a test drive and decide.... Good Luck! G. C. 2008, SR5, TRD 4x4, 5.7 V8
