2001 S55 - Great car, great value, great fun
December 21, 2011
The S55 has to be among the best cars for the price in its day and perhaps even today. Original price over 100k with used ones hovering below 20k, it has all creature comforts to keep driver, family, and friends happy. The front heated/ventilated seats are great all year round. The rear heated seats are great in the winter months, even early Southern California mornings.
Find the right set of tires and this car is seriously fast and smooth. Might be best to stay clear of the tires rated below 200 type tread "hardness", you'll go through a set of rear tires just about every year. The torque and horsepower combination truly propel you straight ahead, this car sparks excitement. It is surprisingly nimble, zipping through highway lanes and city traffic effectvely. It is thoroughly comfortable.
This is a heavy car, gas mileage with this weight and engine will be comparable to a SUV, so temper your expecations. In my view, it's worth every penny.
If you work hard for things in life, want to treat yourself to a well balanced car design that you'll enjoy for some time; consider a test drive, then take this car home; you will not regret this decision.
