What Car Shoppers Need to Know
- Genesis has unveiled the all-new 2027 GV90, a full-size electric luxury SUV with a host of innovative engineering and luxury features.
- The standard GV90 will have conventional front-hinged doors; a higher-line GV90 Neolun will feature coach doors that incorporate front-hinged front doors and rear-hinged rear doors and eliminate a traditional B-pillar.
- Genesis says the GV90’s all-wheel-drive electric powertrain will use a 123.5-kilowatt-hour battery that delivers an estimated driving range of around 310 miles.
South Korean luxury brand Genesis today unveiled a new flagship vehicle that’s remarkable for several reasons. The 2027 GV90 is a breathtaking electric full-size SUV that looks something like the love child of a Cadillac Escalade IQ and a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, but with distinctive Genesis-signature styling touches that give it a look all its own.

Jumping into the essentially white space of the full-size luxury electric SUV market is eye-opening in and of itself — at this point, the GV90’s closest competitor would be the Escalade IQ, which is not a brisk seller — but Genesis has gone further by outfitting the GV90 with several headline-grabbing available features.
XL Dimensions, Novel Rear-Opening Doors
The GV90’s distinctive, formal-yet-futuristic body design stays true to Genesis’ Neolun concept vehicle of 2024. Its dimensions make the GV90 truly full-size; it’s around 208 inches long overall and 80 inches wide on a wheelbase just shy of 128 inches. That footprint is comparable to a standard-length Cadillac Escalade or Lincoln Navigator, but the wheelbase is at least 5 or 6 inches longer than the typical full-size gas-engine luxury SUV; this suggests the GV90’s first and second-row seats will be especially spacious.
Two versions will be available: The standard GV90 has conventional front-hinged front and rear doors, but the higher-line GV90 Neolun has a novel coach-style door arrangement that combines front-hinged front doors with dual-motion rear-hinged rear doors. This setup eliminates the conventional B-pillar between the door openings, creating an extra-large, unbroken opening to the GV90’s interior. Genesis says it has taken several steps to enhance structural rigidity and safety to compensate for the B-pillars’ absence, including a reinforced body structure with an integrated roll cage and 12 airbags (including what Genesis says is the world’s first roof airbag).
Lavish Cabin
The GV90’s interior promises to offer a serene, indulgent luxury experience. Genesis’ quietness-enhancing measures include the use of sound-absorbing materials, acoustic glass for all windows, and the injection of high-expansion fillers into structural cavities.
In addition to expected luxury touches like premium leather upholstery, elaborate trim touches, ambient mood lighting and high-fidelity audio (a 25-speaker Bang and Olufsen 3D sound system), the GV90 offers some coddling features that go beyond the norm. A center-mounted organic light-emitting diode dashboard screen measures 23.6 inches and encompasses the instrument cluster, navigation and infotainment controls. When the vehicle is parked, the screen can be raised and expanded to a 24.6-inch display at the touch of a button for enhanced viewing of multimedia content. The center-mounted screen largely takes the place of a conventional gauge cluster in front of the driver, as does a 25-inch head-up display. Speaking of the windshield, the GV90 offers a heated windshield, along with heated console armrests for the first and second rows — and even heated door-trim and interior side-panel elements.
The GV90 Neolun Executive Suite version does away with the third row, reducing seating capacity from seven to four, and introduces more lavish features. Its second row has a larger center console with a refrigerator and integrated tables, as well as a real wood veneer floor with a radiant heating system. Motorized front seats swivel 180 degrees so they face the second-row seats for a lounge-like setup, and a “comfort partition” separates the second row from the rear cargo area for further noise insulation. A panoramic Smart Vision Roof boasts customizable liquid-crystal tinting that allow the roof’s transparency to be independently adjusted over six zones.

Powertrain Details
The GV90’s all-wheel-drive electric powertrain will use a 123.5-kWh battery that delivers an estimated driving range of around 310 miles in the seven-occupant version, according to Genesis. Genesis says the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in around 22 minutes when using a 350-kilowatt DC fast charger.
The GV90 should be plenty quick; Genesis lists its powertrain’s combined maximum output at 490 kilowatts, which translates to about 657 horsepower. The multichamber air suspension will hopefully make the GV90’s ride cushy despite its 22- or 24-inch wheels, and its rear-wheel-steering system should make it easier to maneuver in tight quarters.
How Much, and When?
Genesis hasn’t announced any pricing information or an on-sale date for the GV90 yet, but we expect it to start comfortably above six figures and to go on sale sometime before the end of the 2027 calendar year.
