Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for some 26,100 examples of its top-end G-Class SUV over a wiring harness that could threaten the reliability of the antilock brakes and electronic stability control.

Affected SUVs include model-year 2019-21 G550 and AMG G63 variants. The front axle wiring harness may chafe against an oil cooler and become damaged, which can cause a loss of ABS and electronic stability control, increasing the risk of a crash.
As a fix, dealers will inspect the front axle wiring harness and either install a protective sleeve or replace the harness, as necessary, for free. Owner notification letters will be sent April 18, but those with further questions can contact Mercedes at 800-367-6372, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
