The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L comes in last with an EPA-estimated 21 mpg combined, but it isn’t far behind.

A new study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has revealed that most mid-size SUVs lack good protection for rear occupants in frontal crashes.

IIHS has released its list of Top Safety Picks for 2023, which includes 48 models across both Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ categories — less than half compared to the 101 models that qualified in 2022.

With the Sport discontinued, the CX-9 Touring is the new base model for 2023 and has a starting price of $40,025 (up $3,120 over the outgoing Sport).
