I've owned this truck for six months now (3rd. owner) and it runs great! The only thing I've replaced on it was the oxygen sensors---the originals were still on the truck (10 years old) and the U-joints. Yes, the gas mileage was brutal at first---14 or 15 miles to the gallon, but I bought an air intake system and now get about 18 or 19 miles to the gallon consistently---that's on a 4.0 liter 4x4, off road package. I also noticed a horsepower increase. Other than my one modification and regularly changing the oil (every 3,000 miles), I have no complaints about the truck whatsoever. I will mention that the horsepower isn't superb due to the fact that the 2000 ford ranger still incorporated the OHV engine instead of the SOHC engine (2001-present). As for the interior, in my opinion it is very comfortable (extended cab). I am 6' 2" and fit into this cab with about 4 inches to spare, so no worries if you are tall and concerned about fitting in this vehicle. As for other features, my truck is 2 door. I would highly recommend trying to find a four door due to back seat accessibility issues. If you want a small truck, don't need to rocket off from a standing position, and need a reliable engine, then a Ford Ranger is right for you.

I bought this truck off my dad in 2001, it is a Supercab, 4.0L 4X4 off road model. I put some bigger tires on it, and I still get 18 to 20mpgs regularly with it. I have 125,000 miles and counting on it. Here is a list of everything I have replaced on it: 1. Spark plugs 2. Spark Plug wires 3. Brakes 4. Ball Joints It has never left me stranded, never had a mechanical failure of any type. It pulled a trailer with 3 ATVs on it over 250 miles without a hiccup on several occasions. I am in the market for a new car, probably a Mustang. I am going to keep the Ranger and drive it in the winter. Why get rid of a truck that has been so good to me? Complaints: I am 6'4" and leg room could be better. I would have liked a better stereo.

The 2000 Ford Ranger 4x2 with the 2.5L 5 speed manual was a great buy, and still is. The new rangers are ugly and do not have a chrome front grille. Ford needs to redesign the Ranger in many ways! The front end is Hideous the interior is very uncomfortable and the tail lights arent that pleasing either. The 2000 ranger is by far the best ranger that has ever been produced! Besides normal maintenance, I have not had any problems with this truck. The only problem is the availability for aftermarket parts and sometimes having to wait on parts from the dealership. Thankfully these parts were not crucial at the time of service.

Rarely in the shop. The OHV 4.0L V6 is torquey enough to pull small trailers, and gets me decent mileage for a 4X4. I would recommend looking at a 2001 and newer model with the SOHC 4.0L. My brother has an '03, and not only is it much quicker than my '00, but it gets 3 mpg better.

For a 12 year old truck with 136,000 miles on it I consider it a fair value for the money. The interior was pristine almost showroom fresh. The exterior shows its 12 years wear but no debilitating rust. I bought it for its trucking capabilities which I feel that it will carry out very well.

I’m the fourth owner might as well be the first. No big problems in 8 years of owning it. I had to get new leaf springs and breaks all around only because of normal wear and tear, not because of a bad product. Not much to say, Perfect first car even in 2015. Most underrated vehicle in Ford history! Not to big not to small, not to weak nor to strong with horsepower. It is safe got into a head on crash (was wearing seat belt) at 15 mph I was just fine not hurt at all, got it fixed. Good enough for two people. Back seat is pointless for an adult but could pass for a kid although not safe so really pointless. Just put a big Sub-woofer back there problem solved. These rangers will still be on the road 50 years from now.

I own a 2000 Ranger supercab 2wd with the 3.0L and a manual transmission and i love this truck! I have made this into a street truck lowered with a sport suspension and i have torn the heck out of this truck racing it and burning on the clutch and its at 90K miles and still starts right up like brand new and drives like it too! I have never seen a truck take such a beating and show not a single little sign of wear with 90K miles. I also have a 97 ranger with the 3.0 stick with 125K and it runs like a champ too. GREAT little trucks!!!

My 2000 Ranger is a fully loaded XLT 4x4 with some extra features such as a brush guard and side running boards. I fell in love with its well-designed interior and exterior. I bought it before I had really done my homework. I soon realized what a rough, gas-guzzling ride it was. A short pro & con list sums it up: PRO - Value - Interior design. The dash and instrument panel is very attractively designed. - Mechanically sound. - Good turn radius. CON - HORRIBLE gas mileage (15 mpg if you're lucky!) - Rough ride. Hitting a patch of bumpy road on a curve can be particularly unnerving. - The V6 4.0 seems surprisingly underpowered. - Front leg room. A little cramped for anybody over 6' tall.
