Expert 2014 GMC Yukon review

our expert's take

Vehicle Overview

The Yukon is GMC’s version of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade, and all three are full-size SUVs that seat up to nine and are available with rear- or four-wheel drive. They are about 20 inches shorter than the king-size GMC Yukon XL (covered separately in the Cars.com Research section), Chevrolet Suburban and Cadillac Escalade ESV. The Yukon is more luxurious than the Tahoe with its ritzy Denali model but not as plush as the Escalade. Competitors include the Ford Expedition and Dodge Durango.

GM’s full-size SUVs will be redesigned for the 2015 model year, and the new versions are expected to go on sale in spring 2014.
New for 2014
The hybrid version of the Yukon has been dropped for 2014. SLE models add the features in the Convenience Package to their standard equipment, including power-adjustable pedals, remote start, rear parking assist and a backup camera with a display in the rearview mirror.
Exterior Highlights

  • Integrated running boards
  • Standard 17-inch aluminum wheels; available 20-inch wheels
  • Heated side mirrors
  • Chrome honeycomb grille (Denali)
  • Available power-retractable running boards (Denali)
  • Available power liftgate

Interior Highlights

  • Seats up to nine with three-place front  bench; seats up to eight with front bucket seats
  • Cloth or leather seats
  • Available heated/cooled front seats
  • Standard leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls
  • Standard Bose stereo
  • Available DVD rear entertainment system
  • Available touch-screen navigation system
  • Maximum cargo volume of 108.9 cubic feet

Under the Hood

  • Flex-fuel 320-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8 with 335 pounds-feet of torque (SLE, SLT)
  • Flex-fuel 403-hp, 6.2-liter V-8 with 417 pounds-feet of torque (Denali)
  • Both V-8s feature fuel-saving cylinder-deactivation technology
  • Six-speed automatic transmission
  • Rear- or four-wheel drive (SLE, SLT)
  • Rear- or permanent all-wheel drive (Denali)
  • Maximum towing capacity of 8,500 pounds, when properly equipped

Safety Features

  • Side curtain airbags with rollover sensor
  • Seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the front row
  • Four-wheel-disc antilock brakes
  • Electronic stability system with traction control
  • Trailer-sway control and hill start assist

  • The gmc Yukon from 2014 is very good it’s good for snow

The gmc Yukon from 2014 is very good it’s good for snow hauling trailers and children. What I love is the cozy luxury interior with the leather seats. It is very reliable the biggest problem we had was the cooling system failing but the repair cost was only $200. I kept everything on it stock. The sound system speakers are crazy good the base is 200% good I just love everything about it!

  • Love this SUV!

I just bought this SUV and am very happy. I tried to like some more affordable large SUVs and just couldn't. I was worried the car wouldn't be worth the money, but it is in every way!

  • Love it!

My Yukon has plenty of room, it gets great gas mileage, and is a very comfortable drive. My wife used to think it was too big to drive, now I can?t get her from behind the wheel. I will never get a smaller vehicle again.
