What Is the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

An extended-length version of the two-row Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Grand Cherokee L is a mid-size SUV with three rows of seating and space for up to seven; should you prefer the optional second-row captain’s chairs, occupancy drops to six. A 290-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 is standard, with a 357-hp, 5.7-liter V-8 optional. Both can be had with rear- or four-wheel drive coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Jeep offers several adventure-ready options, including an air suspension with driver-selectable ride height, a choice of three four-wheel-drive systems, underbody skid plates and a limited-slip differential. The cabin really sets the Grand Cherokee L apart; it’s extremely spacious, and the upper trims are downright luxurious. Competitors include the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Explorer, Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride and Subaru Ascent.

What’s New on the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

The Grand Cherokee L rolls into the 2023 model year with only minor changes related to feature availability. Overland and Limited trims now come standard with a 10.1-inch touchscreen and navigation, and the available premium audio systems can now be had as stand-alone options rather than part of pricier option groups.

What Features in the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • Cloth upholstery
  • 8.4-inch touchscreen
  • 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster
  • Tri-zone climate control
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • LED headlights
  • Power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Lane departure warning
  • Blind spot warning system
  • Satellite radio

Available features include:

  • 10.1-inch touchscreen
  • Rear-seat entertainment system
  • 10.25-inch touchscreen for front passenger
  • Navigation
  • 19-speaker audio system
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Air suspension
  • Wireless device charging
  • Heated and ventilated front and rear seats
  • 21-inch wheels

Should I Buy the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

If you like the five-seat Grand Cherokee but need more space inside, the Grand Cherokee L is worth a test drive. Smaller and less expensive than the Jeep Wagoneer, the Grand Cherokee L has an optional V-8 that gives the added punch you need for quick passing maneuvers. It also bumps the SUV’s maximum towing capacity to 7,200 pounds versus 6,200 pounds with the V-6. Scaling up to higher trims sends the price soaring, but the Grand Cherokee L’s cabin looks and feels every bit as luxurious as many premium-brand SUVs. Options like a front-passenger touchscreen, rear-seat entertainment system, and upmarket leather trim trim give this Jeep a definite “wow” factor when you step inside.

  • I love my vehicle.

I love my vehicle. It's a 2023 model year Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit Reserve trim with the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. Overall sleek exterior design of the vehicle is nice. As for the interior, it's great! Nice and comfortable interior. Palermo leather seats, massaging front seats and power folding rear seats. Heated/ventilated seats for both the first and second rows. Front passenger infotainment screen, interior camera, night vision camera, ambient lighting and a 19-speaker premium audio system. More importantly is the excellent performance. This V8 engine comes with 357 horsepower and 390 pound feet of torque. It'll go from 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. Very good acceleration for sure. A recommended vehicle for performance, enjoying features, hauling passengers and carrying big loads when seats are folded. 👍👍

  • My car has serious problems with the electrical system.

My car has serious problems with the electrical system. My navigation screen shuts off while I am driving and will not start up again until I shut the car off and restart. Then the navigation system reboots. The radio also shuts off and won't come back on until the car is shut down. I have had three instances where the car has started itself. The first time I actually watched as the tail lights came on and I sent my husband down to see why the lights were on and he found the car running. The second time he was actually going out and found the car running, The last time a neighbor came and told me my car was running. All three times the keys were on the counter and not in our possession. I have taken it to the dealer, they can not find anything in the diagnostic of the car. I find it hard to trust this vehicle. It is a lease and I can not wait until my lease is up. I original wanted to buy this car but no longer. This is the fourth jeep I have owned and the only one with such problems.

  • Grand Cherokee Overland L

Just traded my 2014 GG Limited (had 101,000 trouble free miles on her) for a new GC Overland L. Only have 6000 miles on it but so far I am extremely impressed with vehicle. Comfortable, plenty of piwer with the trusty V6. I am still warming up to the exterior of the L, I think the new style looks much better in the two row model and the okd style looks better than both new ones! Time will tell, but after 8 jeeps I have yet to have any major issues.

  • Jeep non quality

It’s a nice vehicle until the gremlins show up.The lift gate battery drain finally got me. The dealership has done the best they can but it takes forever to right parts from Jeep. The dealership has had the GCL for a month now. It’s aggravating as xxxx to make monthly payments and no use of vehicle. If they can’t fix it thinking of selling it back to dealership. This will be my first and last Jeep.i have owned numerous vehicles from GM and never had these kind of problems.

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee - The worst nightmare

I bought a brand new 2023 Grand Cherokee L in October 2023. Two weeks after I bought it, it started having multiple electrical issues such as AC not working, center console shutting down, door locks not working, windows not rolling up or down, etc. Buying this vehicle has been an absolute nightmare, and the customer service given by Jeep is nonexistent. They are aware they sold me a defective vehicle that is having some serious issues, some of them, safety hazard, and they don’t care. Please stay away from Jeep.

  • Buy it!

I just purchased the Jeep Grand Cherokee L in August 2023. It is too early hopefully to have any issues with it but as of today, I love this SUV sooo much. I have owned all kinds of 3 row vehicles, MDX, Tahoo, Explorer, Pilot over the years and this is by far the best one I have owned. Prior to buying this I test drove all kinds of 3 rows too. This wins by miles!

Could not be happier. Love the 5.7 engine (MPG is not a major concert to me.)I loved the 2018 Grand Cherokee Summit, and this car is even better. It does seem larger than the additional 12" of the previous model.

  • Best 3 row SUV

I bought the 2023 Grand Cherokee Limited L recently and I have to tell it’s impressive. I gambled with all the negative reviews since it’s launch. I test drove 2023 Infiniti QX60 sensory and the new 2023 Honda pilot elite and I’m glad I chose Jeep GC L, the pickup is superb not sure above the negative reviews on engine not being good. All the vehicles I drove had almost same V6 engines and GC stands out. The new interior is very convenient and exterior is refreshing, yes I agree that navigation through the infotainment might be tricky but you can get used to it. I had an opportunity to buy the same back in early 2022 but with all the issues with infotainment I decided to go with 2022 Ram 1500 Longhorn Limited turbo diesel, boy couldn’t be happier. Hopefully my vehicle does well and not have all the issues others had.

  • Parts availability - Jeep not making body parts

I love my new Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve extended. Purchased it in the fall of 2022. On December 26th 2022, I was backed into in a parking lot. Both passenger doors need to be replaced. The body shop and the Jeep Dealership that has ordered the parts but cannot get the doors (backordered), and Jeep is not even giving a date when they will be available. Apparently not making them yet. Very frustrating. If you are going to provide a new body style, then should there not be parts available to repair a vehicle. I have essentially a brand new vehicle that cannot be repaired. Love the brand, am very disappointed in Jeep part practices. I have also had issues many with the radio system. It is always acting up in different ways. I have taken it in and the dealership indicates they can find no issue. Be very careful. If you purchase this vehicle, you may not be able to get parts if it is damaged.
