What Is the 2022 Mazda CX-30?

The Mazda CX-30 is a subcompact five-seat SUV with a choice of two four-cylinder engines and standard all-wheel drive on all trims. The base powertrain is a 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. For added verve, there’s an optional turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 227 hp when running on regular gas or 250 hp on premium; it’s paired to the same transmission. The CX-30 has a sporty nature thanks to its highly accurate steering, strong brakes and taut suspension. The latter, though, might be a tad too firm for some SUV shoppers.

Direct competitors include the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona and Subaru Crosstrek. According to Cars.com’s cargo measurements, the CX-30 offers 13.7 cubic feet of cargo space.

    So far so amazing.

    So far so amazing. After this car, I'm very positive I will buy the same model. By the way, I don't know when it's going to happen since I feel like this car would stay healthy forever. Cargo room seems like the only part missing but getting a compact SUV like this? It was expected.

    Great car!

    Bought a brand new 2023 Mazda CX 30 and really like the safety features that are standard features in this car. As an empty nester and retiree, the lane keep assist and lane warning are a welcome feature in this car. The lane warning and assist has an pleasant chime warning sound and the steering wheel vibrate warning the driver that he/she is deviating from the lane. With a little nudge of the steering wheel by the system get you back in your lane. Blind spot monitoring is also a great safety feature to let the driver know that a nearby car is on the nest lane, caution is suggested when changing lane. Cross traffic alert is also great, and it can even detect a person approaching the back side of your car when on reverse, of course it also detects a car approaching when reversing. The interior fit and finish is excellent, it makes the car feel and look like a luxury car without the price of a luxury car. This car is brand new, so I am still in the process of learning about the car. IMO, if you want to experience how the Mazda CX 30 is, get a test drive. You may like it or love it like I do.     Best smaller size SUV on the market.

    This is my baby! I absolutely love this car! It handles beautifully and very comfortable to ride in. I got the select because we wanted the 18” wheels. It has better braking capability. It also has a 2.5 - 4 engine. Radio is the only con because there is no antenna. But none of the new cars have one. Overall, this is the very best car for us and highly recommend it to anyone who prefers a smaller SUV.

    So far, so great

    Purchased the base CX30 in June and just reached 2500 miles. I like the 16' standard rims as new tire purchases will be less costly. The car has plenty of room up front and in the hatch, however, rear leg room is minimal. The 2.5-4 is adequate, but definitely gets up in Sport mode merging on the highway. I like the stiffer ride from the torsion bar rear suspension, although that has been a complaint from some reviewers. The interior appointments are premium imo, and I prefer the infotainment system not having the touch screen. Great little car (GLC).

    Happy camper

    We love our new car. We have had itfor 3 weeks/800 miles now. The only thing that takes getting used to is all the electronics.

    Excellent stand out choice

    Excellent design in and out. This car does the job right has a healthy amount of technology, specially the adaptive radar that takes out all the drama with traffic on a one lane road. It works nicely on the Highway as well. The driving dynamics are very engaging specially with the curves and the twisty roads. The value for your money is very high. You will never regret your purchase.

    Great Car, Incompetent Dealer

    Purchased my first Mazda, a CX-5, last year, when I couldn't get a new BMW. I have had seven German cars in a row-2 Audi's and 5 BMW's. The CX-5 was recommended to me by a friend, and I'm exceedingly happy with it. So when my wife wanted to replace her BMW X-1, we looked to getting a second Mazda - the CX-30. She wanted a smaller car, but wanted the same level of luxury. She also didn't want the turbo (which is a real gas hog, btw) so we looked to the highest-trim level CX-30 and puchased a Soul Red CX-30 Premium. We are extremely satisfied with this car. While the standard Bose stereo wasn't installed (and a $440 credit applied), this was the only drawback. And since it's an "in town" car, it won't be missed. We purchased the car from Southern States Mazda in Raleigh, NC - two hours from hour home. Why? Because our local Mazda dealer with 30 CX-30's on their lot thought they could still pretend like there was a shortage and wanted to charge us $2000 over sticker! We negotiated a good deal and went to pick up the car. Drove it out of the lot, and the dashboard began to display a warning "In Vehicle Network Malfunction". Turned around, went back, and then waited for 90 minutes while the "service" department did nothing useful. They gave me the car back, said "all fixed", and 20 miles later the warning was back. I had googled the issue and found out that the warning wasn't going to hurt anything if we kept driving. However it was clear Southern States Mazda hadn't even followed the troubleshooting procedure in a published service bulletin. Also noted that tire pressures were about 40psi instead of the usual 32psi. Mazda ships cars from Japan at about 40psi for transit which the dealer is supposed to correct when they prep the car. Apparently no real "prep" was done. So there's that. Zoom zoom!

    2023 Mazda CX-30

    I got this over the Mazda 3 sedan/hatchback because it has better ground clearance, more rear headroom, and standard AWD. I've had it for about two weeks. Here's my pros and cons, coming from a 2019 Kia Optima. Pros: the handling is amazing. It's so sharp in turns, with very little body roll. I have no problem going a higher speed in a turn. I enjoy driving it, it feels almost therapeutic. Although, thanks to the great handling and 18' wheel size, you will feel more of the road. Decent power: while it's no Porsche, the 191 hp engine has plenty of oomph to get you up to speed. Especially if you put it in sport mode. I have no problems with accelerating or maintaining higher speeds. Interior quality: is top notch. Many soft touch services and comfy leatherette seats. The interior looks very classy and polished. Features: great amount of features. Standard LED lights, apple/Android compatibility, and many active safety features. (I recommend getting the select, the one above the base, for blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert, you also get the leatherette seats, roof rails, and rear privacy window tint, and smart key) Fuel economy: I get about 27 mpg with some highway but mostly city driving. That isn't bad for an AWD crossover. Neutral: the safety features. The safety features are much more "hands off" compared to my 2019 Kia Optima. I don't ever hear my Mazda beeping at me for taking my hands off the steering wheel for a moment. The Kia Optima was definitely more of a "nanny" car. Cons: Infotainment and climate system is finicky to use at first. It is a little bit of a learning curve. Cramped rear seats. This is not a vehicle if you're regularly going to be hauling around 4 or especially 5 full grown adults around all the time. It's just too small, especially the rear leg room. I'm about 5'6 and usually only have one passenger. So this is no problem for me. The fuel capacity is only 12.7 gallons. So you will be filling up more often if you're coming from a bigger vehicle. All-in-all a fantastic SUV for your money. As long as you view this as more of a lifted hatchback (due to its small size) than an actual SUV, and you like that idea, then this is the vehicle for you. Definitely give it a test drive, and test out the space, like folding the seats back. Highly recommend and hope this review helped!
