Big disappointment
by Toyota fan from Grand Blanc, MI

Well, it is a Toyota so I bought a 2019 Avalon XLE Hybrid primarily for its reliability. However, it has two major flaws. Firstly, it is supposed to provide 43 mpg, but actually it is a lot less. Currently, it is 34.6 mpg. Secondly, for a pretty luxurious car I expected it to have all the safety features for which Toyota is famous. Unfortunately, it turned out that it is missing Intelligent Clearance Sonar and Parking Assist. When I called Toyota and asked if these features could be installed, I was told that it was too complicated. Big disappointment.
I went through Consumer Reports online option so that I could complete as much of my car search and negotiations at arm???s length. Having all the info in writing allows me to think logically, choose exactly what I need, and compare prices, values, and features. I get anxious heebee-geebees having to go up against a salesperson and decide about anything on the spot. When that happens, i always end up feeling that I???ve been bamboozled. Mostly the Consumer Reports ???True Car??? approach worked, with just a few hitches. The first big hitch is that when you sign up, you have to provide both a phone number and an email address. There is no way on the signup to indicate one???s preference for contact, or whether there is a problem with any form of contact. (For example, I???m a teacher, and it is absolutely not OK to call me during the school day, which almost all of them did.) So, within three minutes of clicking yes for quotes, my phone started ringing and dozens of emails began pouring in, sometimes from multiple agents at the same dealership. And since Consumer Reports sends the request to three different dealers, the bombardment is from three different dealerships. It???s awful. But once I reached the callers and told them to STOP CALLING and reach me only by email, the calls slowed down. The second hitch is that once my butt was in the chair for the paperwork, they came at me with unexpected offers of all kinds of extended this and that policies, special protective treatments for the paint (I kept remembering the ???True Coat??? scene in the movie ???Fargo,??? and felt a mixture of irritation and amusement. Classic car-dealership sleaze moves.) If I had known this crap was coming, I would have refused to sit down with the paperwork guys until this information had been given to me in writing so that I could go home and read it, research it, and make a cool, dispassionate, logical decision. I ended up being talked into a $3,200 service/protection plan (???only $50 a month for five years, and you get eight years of coverage!!!), and ended up angry with them and myself. Went back a few days later to deliver my final check after receiving my outside financing, and told the finance guy how annoyed I was with that add-on. He was a bit defensive at first, but then switched tactics: of course I could decline the add-on, but I???d have to wait to have it refunded by Toyota finance. WHAT? I didn???t even take Toyota finance! No luck getting him to understand how offensive it was to have them move ahead with Toyota finance when we had an agreement that I was not taking Toyota finance, and had seven days to secure my own. Whatever. I was going to have to wait for refund of the $3,200. Then they guy came at it again; I could get this policy for $1,000 less (???our employee and family discount price???)! He talked me into that. I think ??? think, not believe totally ??? that the protection plan is reasonably helpful, given all the sophisticated electronics in my vehicle. But I???m still walking around with deep resentment of the process. In the end, I got a good car with the features I wanted, at an OK price, explained well by the internet salesmen with whom I worked. I was treated respectfully, which is important to me as a woman buying on my own. But next time I???ll work hard to head off the last-minute crud at the end, and demand to have all that info in writing before I even poke my head into the office of the bookkeeping/finance guys.

Not your Grandma's Avalon: Stealth Lexus ES 350!

As a realtor, I needed a large comfortable sedan that was luxurious yet performed well. The Avalon Touring, essentially a Lexus ES 350 F type minus some frills for $11K less, delivers. 0-60 in under 6 seconds, 301 HP from a smooth V6 mated to an 8 speed automatic, all the safety and convenience features available. Plus the 4 mode driving selector that transforms the car from a relaxed cruiser to a very sporty car that is nearly Audi-like in handling, throttle response, and steering. Drive this car and forget what the previous version focused on. This new Avalon is for younger drivers that aren't ready to retire!
I have given the highest rating to the categories that apply. Everyone was helpful, courteous, and really kind.
The only shortcoming--which didn't affect much--was that Id asked t to have the tires that were taken off put into the back of my car (which John acknowledged I'd done) but they weren't. One tire would have been okay for an extra if I'd needed it. But. . .

Great vehicle. All great features. Many features, I was not aware of until they just appear. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a luxury vehicle.
Worth the drive from Okc! Smaller dealership without the lavish environment but that also means better prices and great customer service. We really enjoyed our experience in Chandler.

Bought the 2015 Avalon about 6 months ago as a used vehicle. So far so good. No complaints! The sport/eco/normal performance option is awesome. Very comfortable interior. Sleek exterior.
I totaled my car and was in a panic to get another before my rentals 30 days was up. A trusted friend of mine recommended Post Motors. I am so happy that I listened. It was literally the easiest car buying experience I've ever had. I got a great deal on my 2014 Toyota Camry. She's black & shiny & beautiful & her name is Stella. She drives like a dream & I am already "in love" with her. Best think about it is she is a newer & better vehicle than the one I crashed but is CHEAPER!! What the heck!! So thank you Matt. I love my car and plan on keeping her forever... but I will be sending everyone I know your way if they are in the market for a vehicle!!

Well, it's 2019 and I just bought a used 2011 Avalon. It's like a brand new car. Only has about 70,000 miles. With each model year I've had, they've gotten better. My 2011 is powerful, quiet, smooth, and drives like a dream. Like all Toyotas I've owned, this one should be really reliable and provide years of trouble-free driving. I love my Avalon!
Awesome lot. More awesome guys. I will send everyone to them . Love my 2002 Monte Carlo.

It's luxurious, very comfortable for driver and

Owner Jeremy Jones is professional and knowledgeable. I highly recommend!!!

Defect

My side panel next to the driver's seat kept slipping off, after snapping it back on a couple times it seemed like it was going to break if I kept doing this. Since my car is still under warranty I thought Toyota would fix it, but was told since I broke it they wouldn't cover it. It broke because of the defect!
I asked for a search for a late model preowned XT5 Cadillac. Within a short time, I was presented with an offer to buy a 2017 model with less than 4000 miles. Price was outstanding compared to buying a new vehicle and this is basically a brand new car.
Process was easy and efficient. Closing the deal went smoothly.
My wife is thrilled with her new car!

GREAT CAR FOR LONG TRIPS AND GREAT FOR TURNING HEADS WHEN I PULL UP LOVE HEATED REAR SEATS AND ALSO LONG THE REAR SUNSHADE DURING THE HOT SEASON COOL SEATS OK NOT REAL JUST VENTILATION ITS SMOOTH RIDING FEELS LIKE A LEXUS VERY SOFT LOVE IT DOES HAVE ENGINE PROBLEMS AT TIMES NOT LIKE THE CAMRY WITH NO ENGINE ISSUES SO I MGITH TRADE FOR 2018 CAMRY XLE v6 IN THE NEAR FUTURE ITS RELIABLE WITH WARRANTY
MOST LIKELY THE PERSON BEFORE ME DIDNT TAKE CAR OF IT AND I BASICALLY FIXED AND REPAIRED MY CAR TOTALLY NO ISSUES AT THIS POINT ONLY HAVE 72K MILES HAD 2 MINOR ENGINE ISSUES AND THEN 1 MAJOR ENGINE ISSUE UNDER 100k MILES
My wife and I have been researching for a new vehicle for months. Finally we decided to visit Lupient KIA. We met w/new car sales person, Mike Worden. To make this a short story, we ended up purchasing a 2017 Sorrento SX after a couple of road trials. Car buying in the past has been almost a whole day affair. Hated it. Not here.
Mike and the new car sales mgr., Joe Cobb, didn't pressure, they answered our questions, discussed options, treated us respectfully, and gave us a reasonable trade in price for our 2012 Cadillac. Yes, we went from a Cadillac to a KIA. Who knew? We've had the Sorrento for 5 days now and we've already heard from Mike twice, to follow up and make sure we were satisfied with our purchase. We've had many cars over the last 40+ years and this was one of our most pleasant buying experiences. There are a lot of automobiles AND dealerships out there. Don't waste your time. Go here first.

This car is world class luxury combined with reliability and very comfortable It’s highly efficient and fuel economic. It’s low cost to maintain. God bless Toyota.
I recently had my car serviced at Len Dudas. Jason Mayek offered some of the best customer service I have ever had. I appreciated the rides that allowed me to return to work as well as a ride back to pick up my car. Thanks Jason for all the help as well as everyone else that assisted me with taking care of my car. Oh and having my car washed was a definite positive!!! Thanks again!

This is our second avalon for my wife , first was a 2001 with 168k miles which we sold to a high school kid cuz her parents wanted a reliable car for their daughter.
Absolutely the best bang for the buck (any year avalon). Reliable, beautiful, roomy, powerful and luxurious.
My wife puts snow tires on the car in the winter and this car (as did the 01) goes through anything up here in NH that mother nature wants to put us through.
Another great point most people dont think about is that you dont have to waste money on premium gas like you would have to with most other luxury vehicles (25-30% savings in fuel cost). I know this pain, my car is a yukon xl denali that needs premium gas and gets 13 mpg.
If you are thinking about buying one, there is nothing I can think of to discourage you.
I traded in my 2004 Honda CR-V for a 2018 CR-V at Community Honda in Orland Park. Two things I???d like to say about my experience with Community Honda???s people. First and foremost, The two salesmen, Tom Beveridge and Jim Jonas exceeded my expectations. They were honest and through and best of all they were patient with me. (I???m older then a senior citizen). It was clear to me that they wanted to match me with the ???right for me??? Honda rather than closing the deal. They succeeded hands down. I am thrilled with my new CR-V. Second, I am so impressed and quite frankly blown away with Sue Jimenez, Honda???s Sales Manager and Bob Madia, Honda???s Service Director. They went above and beyond the call of duty. They were honest, sincere and exceptionally responsive to me. I am forever grateful to all the people working at Community who contributed to making my new car purchase a five star experience.

This car has meet all my needs and I have enjoyed driving this car. the reason that I’m selling this car because I’m graduating and traveling back home
I have bought or leased 15 cars in my fifty years in USA and they include dealers of Buick, Oldsmobile, Mazda, Toyota, Honda, Ford and Lincoln. I bought my second Lincoln MKX (2017) from Napleton Lincoln in Glenview, Illinois. The manager and the entire staff are highly professional and easy to negotiate. I negotiated my price and signed the deal in less than 30 minutes. There is no pressure and they are all superior to all others dealers I dealt with previously. Managers Nick, Kirk, and sale persons Matt and Peter are great people to work with. For their excellent professionalism, courtesy and meticulous service I give them an excellent rating of 10 on the scale of 0 to 10. There service section personnel are equally excellent, and I found Bob and others very professional when they serviced my 2014 Lincoln MKX.. I wish Napleton Lincoln the best of success and I strongly recommend them to the public for a hassle free deal. Plammoottil Cherian, Ph.D Retired Professor Buffalo Grove, IL 60089

Car met my expectations, except my previous one had more tint on the windows and the ability to lock the door from the outside without the key fob in hand. Truck is smaller, but the back seats do fold down.
Called and got an appointment within a week. The service was prompt and completed within 1 day (good considering it was for 3 recalls). They even washed my vehicle.

I've never owned a better car. Luxury meets practicality. Super smooth ride, comfortable seats, all the bells and whistles, reliable and great gas mileage. The only thing that could make it better is if it were AWD for heavy winter mountain living. But it handles snow around town just fine.
Bought a car from Greg Courville at Steven Toyota. He was very helpful and the process went very smoothly. Thanks for helping me get a new 4x4 for the winter!

Love driving our Toyota; gets about 29 mpg. city and feels very safe with the "warning beeps" if a car is coming up alongside you or is too close. when backing up. Legroom is ample front and back. Heated front driver & passenger seats are amazing. Back up camera has me spoiled. Everyone who drives this car tells me how much they love it.
I always have an incredible experience here at Valley Cadillac! My service manager Scott Robbins is absolutely fantastic! I always feel welcome, and I know I can trust him.

We have owned Toyota's for 39 years and loved them all. Still have a 1988 Toyota 4x4 with over 310,000 miles. Looks and drives great. This Avalon is great, love it just like I did my 1986 Cressida wagon. Would recommend to anyone.
This is a great car for traveling. Smooth, quiet, powerful and comfortable. Huge trunk and tons of leg room front and back. Very comfortable seats and good sounding entertainment center.

I have now purchased three used vehicles from Heritage; a Camry, a Sienna and a Corolla. (Also another Camry from a dealer in Rutland.) Very happy with the life span and performance of the first two from Heritage; hopefully #3 will continue as a trend. I worked in retail management for 30 years. My crusty old school boss, generally a good guy - classic tough but fair person (these days seems like too much "tough", nowhere near enough "fair" anymore) used to say this on the regular about hitting sales targets, often challenging ones: First time's luck; second time's coincidence; third time's a trend. I made it a point of my career to hit as many of my targets as reasonably possible just so I could throw that old chestnut back at him during sales meetings. Not surprisingly, he didn't seem to mind... I appreciate the staff working on price; we are a family of four, currently one income, living in very expensive Chittenden County. Rural area; we need at least two affordable cars, plus probably one more next year or so when my teen son starts driving. I truly wish there was ONE visionary out there in car dealership land that would just put their used auto inventory out there with a finite price, inclusive of a *reasonable* markup to cover conditioning, etc. and a modest profit, and end all the lunacy and stereotypes surrounding deal-making. Having worked so long in retail, I genuinely understand the need and right to make an honest profit. I do not believe anyone, any "customer", has the right to try to screw down the price of a car (or anything else) to cost or almost cost. Nor should dealers abuse the nice, naive people who are often just confused. One loud obnoxious jerk will wail to the heavens at the injustice of the price of a car, to the point where usually you're willing to do almost anything to get rid of them, I suspect to the point where another more pleasant customer will get a bad deal to make up for it. This is wrong on so many levels. That jerk doesn't deserve a deal, though I know they are usually the type that can afford most whatever they want. This recent deal was a bit of a misunderstanding, BTW, so I hope I wasn't being that jerk here. Not my intention at all. I just wanted to get to a loan not above 10K due to our financial situation; that's all. Your initial price on the car was almost exactly what the bank's listing had it at. I just knew I couldn't afford full book PLUS all the extras (tax, fees, etc.). You worked on it, and made an offer and I appreciate it, truly. I plan to turn this car over to my son late next year, and hopefully look for another for myself. Our daughter will need a vehicle in two+ years. You have the potential for two more sales right there over the next few years. Isn't that worth offering a good deal to a loyal patron? Please consider a used "Fixed Price/ Everything Included" option on your lot someday. No arguing/haggling/wailing to the heavens crap. "Here is our price, all in, inclusive of our *reasonable* markup and reconditioning costs." This is the very first place I would look in the future. Why not try it? I get the whole new car BS (sorry, but it is, and you all know it), with "incentives', rebates, etc., etc. Probably hard to get to a fixed price wading through all that nonsense, though I believe it could still be done with a bit of determined and legally creative accounting. Lastly, what I wouldn't give to peruse your full P&L for a lunch hour or so. Right in my wheelhouse, as I am an intensely curious person, generally. I used to tell that crusty old boss of mine that it's one thing to understand an operational line item (like a supply line, say); another thing entirely to be able to actually MOVE that number. Sometimes you can't; the best you can do is hopefully contain it. But I digress...sorry. Thanks for what I hope to be yet another great car from Heritage. I look forward to working with you in the near future. Steven
