2018 BMW 530 review: Our expert's take

What it is: The BMW 5 Series is a mid-size luxury sedan that was redesigned last year. It competes with cars such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6.

Plug-in hybrid and M Performance models have arrived. The M550i has a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 that makes 456 horsepower, while the 530e iPerformance has a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that combines a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. The rest of the lineup sees minor trim and packaging changes, including a newly available Dynamic Handling Package for the 530i and 530e.

Finest Driving Car I've Ever Owned.

As a retired Automotive Professional I've driven literally hundreds of car over my 40 year career. So, I decided as a retirement present to myself, I would go luxury this time. I bought mine certified pre-owned with only 15,000 miles on it. The quietness, the handling, are as good or better than anything. When passing, the acceleration is smooth and clean. The only drawback is that if you don't pay attention, you'll find yourself going 80.

Another great 5-series

This model line continues to amaze me as I trade them in every 5-8 years. The 2018 is the most improved of them all. If you've never driven a 5-series or a BMW for that matter, treat yourself!
