Vehicle Overview

Full-size pickup trucks are Detroit’s bread and butter, and when Chevrolet redesigned the Silverado for 2014 it took a conservative approach with the styling and stuck with a traditional steel frame and body. The Silverado 1500 shares its platform with the GMC Sierra 1500, but there are significant styling differences to appeal to shoppers with different tastes. Competitors include the Ram 1500, Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra. The Silverado comes in regular-cab, double-cab and crew-cab body styles, and cargo-box lengths range from 5 feet 8 inches to 8 feet.

For truck buyers who need to tow 20,000 pounds or more there are 2500HD and 3500HD heavy-duty versions of the Silverado, which were updated last year.

(Skip to details on the: Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD)
New for 2016
All models get new front-end styling with prominent horizontal elements and LED accent lighting. High-intensity-discharge headlights are standard and LED headlights are available. The eight-speed automatic transmission is now available with the 5.3-liter V-8 engine on LTZ and High Country trim levels while wireless phone charging is included on all models with front bucket seats.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available and let passengers access apps from compatible smartphones through the Silverado’s dashboard screen. A remote locking tailgate is also available, and High Country models can have power-retractable running boards.
Significant Standard Features

  • 285-horsepower, 4.3-liter V-6 engine
  • Six-speed automatic transmission
  • Rear-wheel drive
  • Air conditioning
  • Cruise control
  • Power door locks
  • Full-size spare tire

For 2016, Digital Steering Assist power steering that continuously adjusts assist is available on double-cab and crew-cab trucks. A new Gooseneck/5th Wheel Trailering Prep Package includes a spray-in bedliner. Also newly available is wireless phone charging, a remote locking tailgate, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

  • Terrible steering and terrible tire wear

42,000 miles 3 sets of tires, steering box has gone twice now and both times my 4 year old daughter has had to ride it out with myself. Pretty sad you gotta pucker up when your about to drive a $60,000 truck?? I'm a dairy Farmer and have driven some questionable vehicles for decades. Never was I afraid to drive them... steering and brakes are kind of a must though

  • Chevy for Towing

I have only driven the truck from the lot near Salt Lake City to my home in Littleton, CO. I did just fine on the trip. Quiet and comfortable. I have not owned it long enough to be able to judge reliability, but the GMC Sierra that I owned prior to the Chevy was reliable. I will be using the truck to tow a 41' 5th wheel (14,000lbs). I have no concerns that the truck will be up to the task.

  • Nicest Truck I have owned

Honestly I love the whole truck but for some reason the wheel wells look funny to me. They are kind of squared and fender flares don't look right on it but other than that I really cant complain about it. its the ltz model so it has everything under the sun as an option. Could have had more of a truck tire on it instead of a highway tire. but I love it.

This is a Very nice and powerful truck. I'm excited to pull the 5th wheel to see how it compares to my 2006 Duramax.

  • No longer a Ford fan

I purchased a 2016 Silverado HD Dually Diesel to replace my F550 Ford work truck. This Silverado has more gadgets and luxuries than the wife's cadillac! Great performance, looks and payload! It is easily the best truck I've owned (out of 7). The cab is so quiet, as is the motor itself. Built with form and function in mind, and built right. Biggest issue is now I'm always late to work because I stay driving just as long as I can!
