I bought this car as an upgrade to a much loved and cared for 2003 Ford Focus ZX3 hatchback with standard transmission. I am an emotionally invested car owner who did not want to give up her car because it was old and outdated. But with the new "hands-free" laws my hubby was adamant about upgrading to a new vehicle. We purchase a new 2015 Toyota Rav4 Limited with all the bells and whistles and I, surprisingly, loved all the new technology. I decided maybe it was time to retire my much loved ZX3 with only 74,000 original owner miles on it. I drove the 2014 Focus SE and noticed instantly the shuddering from a stop. However, reading how they changed the transmission, I realized "I" needed to change the way I drive. You see, I baby my cars. But you really need to just drive this car. Put a little more on the gas. There is a great article I read on the new Ford transmission and how it operates. I also know if anything should go wrong or I have any questions I can just take it back to the dealership and they will fix it. I am pleased that Ford is backing said transmission for 100,000 miles (not that I will even come close to that number). For a run-around car that won't see a lot of miles this car is exactly what my family needs. Lots of room and just enough technology to keep me in compliance with local laws regarding hands-free phone and text. l have relied on Ford since my first one, a 1988 Ford Festiva (yes, I bought brand new) and they have not disappointed. Just my two cents worth.

Bought a 2014 Focus a little over a year ago. I got the 2.0 with 5 speed manual. I've racked up 50,000kms and get great mileage 33.6mpg average since I owned it. and get better then advertised when on a long haul on the highway. I've had no issues with this car mechanically although the stock tires I got on it wore down very fast and everything in the front end is still tight. Other then that no complaints at all great car for the price!

Without a doubt, the best commuter car we've ever owned. Great gas mileage, very comfortable, and very economical. With regular 87 octane we get about 28 city in stop and go traffic, and about 34-35 on the highway depending upon speed. It's been such a great car, we've been contemplating buying a 2nd one. Pros: Great fuel economy. Comfortable right for commuting or distance driving. Amazing price.Safety. More cupholders than many SUVs. Nice interior. The interior was nicer than I anticipated. There is plastic, yes. But the ergonomic places where you touch are either leather or cloth so you don't notice. Cons: Microsoft SYNC (doesn't like iPhones and you have to start artist search all over once you start playing music), noisy transmission that bothers some people. High compression engine that runs better on E85. Now take head, I didn't say a BAD transmission, I said noisy. This isn't an old fashioned hydraulic tranny, it's a PowerShift that uses loud actuators to shift gears. In fact, it's a converted manual that has been automated. So as it shifts gears and starting out goes, you'll hear the clicking of the clutches (this has two) and the gears and they lock into place. I researched this before buying and expected it, but it's not as bad as some people make out. But if you're not expecting it, it may be worrisome. Don't worry though, it's normal. Just stay away from the 2012's since the 14's have better shifting software. The engine is also a high-compression 12:1. Running on higher octane E85 I get smoother starts and much better acceleration since the engine was meant for this. It will detune itself with regular 87 to prevent knocking so it's a bit slower then. Fuel economy though takes about a 4,5MPG hit with the E85. If you're into economy driving, stick with regular gas. But if you want the higher octane stuff for a more peppy drive, E85 is actually a better value compared to premium fuel. You just have to fill up more often. All in all, and very nice car that we've been very pleasantly surprised with. We've thought about buying a 2nd one, but will wait until 2015 when Ford is set to abandon Microsoft with switch over to BlackBerry QNX for the SYNC system.

I have a 2014 Focus SE for about 6 weeks and the car handles, accelerates, breaks, steers very well and it has nice styling. Fuel mileage is great. Only minor issue is the car is a little jerky at low speed, probably transmission related. I wished there was a little more storage in the front for change, pens, etc. Otherwise good value and very happy.

I drive 90 miles per day to work, so the best part by far and away is the gas mileage. I average 40 mpg nearly every tank. For a 4 cylinder, it is very zippy. The backseat is not comfortable for a long ride. It serves just fine as a commuter vehicle, but is far from my dream vehicle.

I have a 2012 Ford Focus SE with the sports package with 90K miles. I have never had a problem and only take it to the shop for normal maintenance. I did buy the car with a manual transmission because I was a little spooked by the stories I was hearing about the automatic transmission. I don't have the high end MyFord system either. It rides nice, handles well and I average about 30 mpg overall in L.A. traffic. I would buy another one again.

Leased a 2014 SE sedan a few months ago and am very happy I did. Other reviewers complain about the automatic transmission but I find it responds just like a manual but without the clutch! It just takes some getting used to. Styling is very comtemporary and the fit and finish of the interior is excellent for a car in this price class. Great mileage, super quiet on the highway, great features. Highly recommend a Focus for anyone looking for value, style, performance and quality.

I purchased an SE hatchback with the 6 speed dual clutch automatic. Excellent car, comfortable, sporty with plenty of room thanks to the hatchback design. I typically manage between 24 and 30 MPG even with my spirited driving over the past 1,400 miles. Yes the dual clutch transmission takes a little getting used to, but once you figure out how to manage it, it works much better than old fashioned automatics. Sync could have better menu controls, but it is far better than some more expensive systems I have used in several luxury brands. The car is very comfortable, controls are all easy to use and reach and the handling overall is excellent. Ford has made great improvements to their models, especially the Focus and Fiesta (which I also own). I also have found that their products to be far better than offerings from GM or Chrysler as well as many of the imports. Hope they keep things up for when I am eventually ready for another new vehicle.

My new 2014 Ford Focus sedan has a lot to live up to! It was with some reluctance than I traded in my previous car ... a 2004 Ford Focus sedan. 10 years I drove it and had not one major problem of any sort! The new Focus is just as classy-looking and very cool to drive. My favorite "new" feature is the telescoping/tilt steering wheel. At last I can get close enough for my short legs to reach the gas pedal without having the steering wheel cutting into my stomach ... always a plus! I look forward to the next 10 years.
