I owned an 2002 manual transmission CRV for 8 years. I averaged 25mpg with a combination of city & Hwy driving, which I was happy with. On a big hill it would putt-putt along, but otherwise the power was adequate. LOVE the internal cargo space. Love that it drives with a solid feel of a Honda. Cons: The actuator in the drivers door went out at 60k, so the remote entry no longer worked. Apparently this is common. The compressor blew at 85k, a $1500 repair. This seems to be a common flaw with the AC system. Road Noise. -The internal plastic scratches easily.

Super reliable. Have owned for years and have never had a single issue. Great on gas. I have the 5 speed and its very peppy. Great in the snow. Does seem like it needs a 6th gear since at 60+ mph it seems the trans is pegged or sounds wound out. In saying that it does still have lots of power 60+ mph but its at 3100 rpm and noisey. Other thn that best car i have ever owned (have owned 20+ cars).

I've only had this car a week, but I knew I would love it before I bought it. I've been driving Hondas since I was 17 (31 now) and I was hoping to transition into the SUV world with another Honda. I traded performance for reliability, it's not very powerful but driving my kids around town doesn't require horses. I bought it with 80k and I'm hoping it will give me at least another 80!

I've had a 2004 Honda CRV EX for 6 years and have not had a single problem with it. I bought it used in 2006 with 70, 000 miles. It now have over 165, 000 miles and it still runs perfect. The AWD (All Wheel Drive) is a must with these Iowa winters. I have only done preventative maintenance like oil/filter changes, spark plugs, fuel filter, tires etc. The car will run forever.

2004 CRV EX AWD

Had this vehicle since new. Superior quality interior(better than 2005-2006). A little noisy upon hard acceleration, but that's expected of a 4-cylinder motor. Shifts smoothly and almost effortlessly. Handles like a car. Takes getting used to real-time AWD when driving first time in snow (don't accelerate while turning). Great standard equipment and safety features. Excellent crash ratings! Good cargo volume and cabin transformation. Easy to get in and out. Great on gas. Honda quality says it all! Would definately recommend, but dislike the 05-06 interior and restyled front bumper with round blanks for foglights.

I purchased the CRV used after owning a Ford Ranger for several years. I was very impressed with the 2-wheel drive ranger and would have bought another if I hadn't moved to a northern climate (in one word, snow). So, I did my research, saw a deal on a CRV LX (with 4WD) and grabbed it. So far I'm pretty happy. Major complaints: allot rattles in the interior that I never had with the Ranger, rear wheels don't engage quick enough when front wheels begin slipping (this was addressed in 2005 model), radio is placed to far from driver's reach, door lock mechanism on driver's side was broken, and no standard stability control or ABS brakes on 2004 model. However, I was impressed with the amount of space, comfortable interior, performance and control of the vehicle (limited body-roll) and good fuel economy. All in all, a good vehicle. However my next cute-ute will have ABS and stability-control. It will likely be another CRV or Rav4. Japanese all the way baby!

We finally settled on a Honda CRV, model year 2004. We actually were looking for a model year 2007, but the CRV was so popular that we were priced out of the market. The good news is that the first dealer that I went to called me back 5 weeks later. He had just received a trade in that fit our needs to a "T". I test drove the car and loved it, and bought it right away. I would recommend the All Wheel Drive model if available, because it gives a better feel of the road.

Purchased a 2004 CRV 4 months ago (31,000) and I am very disappointed in the build quality (built in England). Lots of rattles. Badly needs a 200HP engine. Gas mileage is unimpressive. You must have stability control and traction control, mine didn't come with it. Slippery tight corners are a nightmare.

Bought the 04 CRV-EX new and after 7yrs /140K miles, it's still a great car. I love my 5spd manual, but am finally ready to move to an automatic. Decent fuel economy (~28mpg) and it's a rugged but comfortable car for longer trips. No major service issues in 7yrs of constant use. Great cargo capacity, we've hauled full loads of firewood and also easily load 2 kayaks on roof.
