  • Loved this car

Loved this car, it was a tank, and it used fuel like a tank. I believe the engine was too small for the vehicle's weight. I bought it used, i could not control the temperature of the air conditioning (easy enough to fix), and when the engine was warm it was hard to start (probably another easy fix).

  • O.G. Or else Big Daddy. Depends on the day.

God lives in the details, and he/she has found a very tidy home here. Is it perfect? No, because no cars are perfect. I've been a mechanic for over 50 years, believe me when I say that this car is no more difficult to work on that any other car. Including the in dash evaporator. It's kind of a trap to use this single component failure as a labor example for the entire car. Yes, replacing the evap IS the biggest time hog that exists on the car. Says almost 40 hours. if you are careful you can do it in 25 ( lots of baggies, and a sharpie so you don't lose a single fastener). You tube has some great info on this. The most difficult part of the operation is finding / making time to be SUPER careful when removing the wood trim -- console and radio surround. Usually takes me about an hour, and I've done it before. Just for fun, if you see any of the W140's in the recycling yard. buy the automatic trunk handle mechanism. Extra points for the chrome one. Makes a tremendous coffee table or bookshelf trophy. Just look at the quality in it. Feel how smooth it operates. Almost heavy. Solid metal. And/or. Grab the 11th Bose speaker. The windshield one below the rear view mirror. Weighs about a pound. Again, mostly metal. Incredible. If you've found an extra non- broken interior rear view mirror, it will soon be possible for you to consider taking an early retirement. The reason I will never use valet parking. So. The car is big. But not really. Saw one parked next to a new full size Toyota sedan, and they were about the same size. Benz a few inches taller and longer. The strength & quality karma of this bad boy/ girl just makes all the difference. Looking at it from a distance you can tell the Benz has thicker sheet metal than any car near it. Couldn't resist. Had the factory wheels chromed. Clear turn signal lenses up front, new clear/white strip at the back. Body is darker blue top. Lighter blue bottom. Beige interior. Ah yes. Watch "the Peacemaker" with George Clooney and Nicole Kidman ( who is so young in this one, you have no idea it is Nicole ). An S500 driven by Clooney takes care of a whole bunch of Beemers. Some nice ones. Alas.

  • This is Benz

Just need to drive! This is what makes Mercedes Benz the Benz. Smoothest ride ever. You will understand when you be the owner of one of the S series.

  • One of the best cars ever made

Yes, it can be expensive to maintain but I do most of the stuff on the car so it is not expensive for me.. I owned 11 w140's in the past 7 years, this 1995 S420 I own for 3 years and I didnt have any big problems. It is hard to find a good mechanic that knows how to work on older cars, that is the only problem. Car runs like new, its the smoothest ride ever. I think that I will keep this one for many years.

  • Love my back up car- 1994 S320 with a straight siz

I have had this car for 11 years. It has been a decent and very reliable car. It is not an every day driver. It is beautiful and drives like nothing I have ever owned before. I have talked about getting rid of it- really it's just talk. I know I could never get rid of it. The trick to owning these beautiful cars is to find an honest independent Mercedes mechanic. I love this car and plan on keeping it forever. You take care of and it won't let you down. Indeed, I am buying a new Murano and will keep my two tropheys in my garage. My everyday boys the Camry and the Escape can hang out side- that's the kind of respect my old Mercedes deserves!

  • One of the best cars ever built!

I always loved this model, i bought this one used, and it has been Great, a true super car! You just have to take reasonable care of it. I read, that MBZ took a loss on this car, because they needed so few repairs, and people kept them for years, used them for taxi cabs too. Fast safe. Too many nice features to mention. Built with "Green" parts & process, water base paints, eco friendly woods etc. Yes, in 1994!

  • You have to understand exotic cars!

I have to tell you that there is NOTHING about my S 600 coupe that I don't love. Yes, it is expensive to maintain, but so is a beautiful woman. Think of them both the same way, exept this one will never leave you :-)

  • Nice Car to Visit

I've owned my S600 coupe for over 6 months and 5 of them have been at the repair shop, awaiting parts and technician interest in getting the car fixed. Cost of repair, while high, is not the big concern. It's keeping it running. Mercedes should be ashamed for building such a miserable product. I have seen some of the stupidest design blunders known to man (check out the PCV system on the M120). The phrase "the best or nothing" is pure hyperbole. I'd never own another German car.

Very Luxury car for people who know about Mercedes benz. I have one, body is so strong and beautiful. when you drive you feel you are a prince. I think this Mercedes looks much better than new ones and I have never spend even one penny for maintenance.

  • Love this Car!

I have owned nothing but Mercedes for the past 12 years...and I have to say this is a real show stopper. I bought this for my everyday car and to take clients out. The interior is so spacious and has all the bells and whistles...including heated lumbar seats in the back, seperate controlls for A/C in the back and 4 lighted makeup mirrors! The Bose sound system makes this a perfect ride. This is a solid car designed for comfort....you really feel like you are in a Limo. Gas miliage is about 19 so, if you travel 60 miles a day it might not be for you. All the trucks out there get far less....and I feel safe in this car. I would rather drive this S500 VS a small square car made out of plastic! Repairs could be expensive..but is anything cheap anymore? Regular check ups and oil changes will bring you years of enjoyment.

  • Just Horrible on Maintenance

If you buy one of these, you better have a lot of money in the bank. There are a zillion gizmos that all break, all the time. The A/C evaporator broke and cost over $4,200 to fix - that's as much as the car is worth, in one repair. Power windows, seat controls, antenna mast, speedometer, trunk latch, I could go on - I am buying this car new one piece at a time. Design is great, but quality is zero.

  • Expensive to buy and maintenance hog...will eat yo

You will always be fixing this car even with low miles..it is always something and everything is really expensive as this was an $80,000 base care in 1994! Everything seems to regularly fail on this car and no repair ever costs less than $1,000 to fix.
