What Car Shoppers Need to Know

  • Larger battery delivers up to 45 miles of electric range
  • Nearly 50 more horsepower than 2025 model
  • Pricing starts at $44,990 (all prices include a $1,745 destination charge).

The Outlander Plug-in Hybrid is Mitsubishi’s flagship vehicle. For 2026, it gets meaningful updates inside and out. It combines the visual tweaks and chassis upgrades applied to the non-plug-in 2025 Outlander with an improved battery.

What’s New?

For 2026, the battery capacity grows from 20 kilowatt-hours to 22.7, stretching the electric range to 45 miles; the 2025 Outlander PHEV had an EPA-rated 38 miles. (Official fuel-economy ratings are not yet available for the 2026 model.) Improved thermal management for the pack, including a new cooling system, increases electricity output by a claimed 60%.

Elsewhere, the 2026 Outlander PHEV receives the same upgrades Mitsubishi made to the plugless SUV last year. Along with retuned steering and suspension, Mitsubishi adds more noise insulation to contribute to a more serene experience for occupants. Both the standard eight-speaker and available 12-speaker sound systems are sourced from Yamaha; the seats are updated for greater comfort; and ventilation is available for the fronts. Mitsubishi also tweaks the hood, grille, and front and rear bumpers, although it takes a keen eye to spot the differences. LED headlights and taillights are now standard.

Release Date and Pricing

The 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will go on sale in May. Pricing will start at $44,990. That’s $13,000 more than the regular 2026 Outlander, which gets a new turbocharged hybrid engine as standard equipment for 2026. Four trim levels of the PHEV will be available: ES, SE, SEL and Black Edition. Pricing and details for each trim level will be released closer to the start of sales.

Powertrain Specs

While the gas engine and electric motors are unchanged for 2026, the greater battery output lifts total system horsepower to 297 from 248. Unlike the regular Outlander, which can be had with front-wheel drive, the PHEV comes standard with Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control all-wheel drive. In this application, S-AWC uses an electric motor to drive the rear wheels.
