It's been an awesome car so far. I've only owned it 6 months now, but in that time there has been nothing wrong with her at all. I had thought there was a leaking power steering boot when I first bought it (third owner), but upon taking apart the power steering system I found it was only the reservoir. Otherwise, very reliable car, with great passing power. Gas mileage could be better, but with the way I accelerate I get about 20mpg city with the 3.3l V6. Only 155k miles so she's still a baby. This car is pretty much peak Toyota. It's decent looking on the outside, but nothing to stare at. Inside it's comfy with the cloth seats but not a luxury car. It's quick enough, but could never be a sports car with the throttle response. It also has the unfortunate trend of Toyota's engines with more than 4 cylinders being unreasonably thirsty. It's bland in almost every way, but it will live forever.

Once at the dealership and checking out other cars they gave me all the time I needed, never felt pressured and were very transparent about the car itself and what to expect (I bought a '99 Mercedes so the mechanic talked me through some of the issues that might arise). My 2003 Highlander is now 20 years old and has been in our family the whole time. 260,000 Miles and this beautiful car runs like new. I love the power of the V6. I love the ride and the FWD does great in the mountains. I love the reliability. I love the tape deck! I frequently drive rental cars that are brand new that I don't like nearly as much as this 20 yr old Highlander. Amazing reliability and a joy to drive.

Many problems, but the car drives fine. Got it for cheap as a first car. Already had to put around 3- 4k into it. Fun car

Over 400,000 miles and still going strong, did have to put a transmission in at about 200,000...Engine is still great. Last year before third row I think..perfect for long camping trips.

I bought this car new in 2008. I have nothing bad to say except the paint start flaking after about 5 years. I should have taken to dealer over paint issue. My car only has 65,000 miles and paint is completely gone. I am in the process of a new paint job. Seems my issue was the clear coat in the paint. I have owned 6 other Toyotas, all bought new. This is only 1 with this issue!

I'm driving my highlander til it drops. At 276,000 miles it still drives like new! I'm driving back and forth from Tennessee to Minneapolis 4 to 5 times per year, pulling a trailer! It has never once let me down, I totally trust it.

I am the original owner of my 2004 Toyota Highlander purchased with 8 miles on it ( my test drive miles =))... it currently has 419,100 miles. Original engine, transmission etc... Some upkeep throughout the years... but She's still pushing and running smoothly. What's the saying " til the wheels fall off" which shouldn't be anytime soon because I just purchased new tires last year. =))). Best vehicle ever, very reliable, sturdy, and fun to drive....we have been through a lot.

I've owned my 2004 Highlander since it was brand new with only 22 miles on it. {220,000 miles} I've since moved on to a Lexus but "blue Betty still belongs to the family. Still has a smooth ride and is very dependable. Both my daughter and son have had the car to drive in high school. I still change the oil every 5,000 miles with 10,000 mile rated synthetic oil. All I've ever done is change tires, batteries, brake pads, alternator and water pump once. Radiator hoses once. Transmission drain/refill only twice.....no flush. Spark plugs 3 times. She still has amazing take off power and is really a joy to drive. See you at 300,000 miles

My family bought this car back in 2008, and it currently has 166k miles on it. Its a great car and very reliable, and the cost for repair aren't too much. The only issue I have with this car is fuel economy. The car doesn't do a good job with saving gas lol, but that's okay. I have the 2006 Toyota Highlander V6, and its a base model ! Over all, it isn't bad!!

Good car,goes straight, nice tires, large windows easy to see around. The cup holders are not designed very well, to low, some other compartments i don't kno what they are for.

I had mine for two years before I rolled it (3 times and walked away with one scratch and a bruise) and I had to replace the timing belt once (still had the original on it). Replaced the alternator on it because I was slowly killing it with my system in it (cost 400 bucks maybe a little more and was easy enough to replace myself) I got up to 42 mpg on average when I drove mine. Would definitely buy again, only had issues with the rear suspension and alignment.

Bought in 2008 with 16,000 miles drove until 120 gave it to the boys for school then college.now gave it to the oldest to keep has 168 200 miles still going.. costs were new struts ,tires .brake caliper rebuild pads rotors all belts as needed replaced timing belt at 140 ,000 miles and trans service at 152,000 I did all my own service before I gave it away. Note zero rust from north pa. Now lives in Fla. We now own a 2018 highlander and 2020 tacoma

At 196600+ miles, this car has never let me down . It’s never had a major problem. Regular maintenance and this car sees to run forever. I regularly make 4-5 trips yearly to Reno and Lake Tahoe, the most recent being to Tahoe in April. It’s the most dependable ride I’ve ever had!!

We have owned our Highlander since about 42K miles, it now has 136k. The car has been wonderfully reliable and the batteries (now 16 years old) seem to still be working quite well. We get about 25mpg, maybe one or two less than when we first got it. While maybe not sexy, the first-gen Highlander Hybrid is a super well-engineered car. Our years in this tight, quiet, comfortable, spacious vehicle have been great. Biggest problem is we can't find a modern car we like enough to replace it!

I purchased my reliable Highlander on September 13, 2001, (I never forget, YES 2 days after the NY attack). This car went everywhere. In 2009 and 2011 I drove my two kids out of the hospital in it when they were born. I sold it (in less than one hour) on May 2019 with 289,000 miles. Never had any major issues, probably the worse was a CV joint. With regular maintenance it can go many more miles.

I have a 2003 Highlander it runs great everything it has is fine the problem is the frame on Drivers side front has rusted out and the wheel just collapsed.thier should be a recall on it .Toyota should replace the frame at thier cost.Is there a recall on them,please let me know if there is. It feels and is very large, which is good and difficult. Purchased used Highlander Ltd. in 2012. Mileage 59,000 Stolen 5l23 at 129,000 miles. Still a sought-after vehicle for many reasons, including harvesting parts. Transmission needed work just after purchase. No other problems mechanically, just routine maintainace. The car started to rust in 2000 in year.round tropical weather. The overall body was still in good shape at 21 years old. It is a great car but it is like driving a bus. The sightlines are bad and resulted in scrapes, dings and replacement of the front (polymerase) bumper twice due to minor bumps but no traffic accidents. If you have little access to parking or your average space is small, that would be your biggest problem. Loved the car but dreaded driving it. Looking for a smaller Toyota. The sound system was primo; seatin was very comfortable.
