our expert's take

What Is the 2020 Buick Regal?

The mid-size Buick Regal seats five and is offered in four-door hatchback (Sportback) or wagon (TourX) form. A 250-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine goes in all versions but the GS Sportback, which is powered by a 310-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 engine. Front-wheel-drive models and the all-wheel-drive GS have a nine-speed automatic transmission, while the other all-wheel-drive versions get an eight-speed automatic. Competitors include the Acura TLX and Subaru Outback

What’s New on the 2020 Buick Regal?

There are no significant changes this year.

What Features in the 2020 Buick Regal Are Most Important?

Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, a 7-inch touchscreen multimedia system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot (data trial included). Available features include remote start, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic moonroof, navigation, a Bose premium stereo and wireless charging. Available active safety features include blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist.

Should I Buy the 2020 Buick Regal?

Both the Sportback and TourX body styles emphasize versatility, but the Regal also comes with a strong base turbocharged drivetrain and delivers a refined, comfortable ride. There’s not much steering feedback, however, and considering Buick’s premium positioning in the market, the interior could be nicer. Many active safety features cost extra, too, as opposed to being standard.
