Full article

What Is the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500?

The GMC Sierra 1500 is a full-size pickup truck available with a standard turbocharged four-cylinder, two optional V-8s or a torque-rich turbo-diesel inline-six. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but the Sierra can also be outfitted with a variety of four-wheel-drive systems, as well as many features that enhance towing capacity and off-road capability. With three cab sizes and three cargo bed lengths, the Sierra is a work truck at heart; it’s a mechanical twin to the Chevrolet Silverado. The Denali and Denali Ultimate trims pack in luxury touches and comfort features, but they also significantly elevate the Sierra’s price tag. The Sierra’s rivals consist of the Ford F-150, Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra.

What’s New on the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500?

Other than a newly available 22-inch wheel design and a couple of additions to the standard equipment list on some trims, the Sierra 1500 stands pat for 2025.

What Is the Towing Capacity of the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500?

The Sierra’s maximum towing capacity ranges from 8,900 to 13,300 pounds, depending on powertrain, trim level and equipment.

How Much Does the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Weigh?

The Sierra’s curb weight ranges from 4,410-5,550 pounds, depending on body style, trim level and equipment.

What Features in the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 7-inch touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Six-speaker stereo
  • One USB port
  • Push-button start
  • Remote keyless entry
  • 17-inch steel wheels
  • Front bench seat, vinyl upholstery
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Forward collision warning with pedestrian detection
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane-centering steering

Available features include:

  • 13.4-inch touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Wireless device charging
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Power-operated running boards
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated rear seats
  • Bed-mounted 120-volt outlet
  • Bed-mounted stereo system
  • Surround-view parking camera
  • Super Cruise hands-free driving assist

Should I Buy the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500?

The full-size truck market is possibly the most competitive segment in the automotive world. Helping the Sierra 1500 stand out from its Ford, Ram and Toyota rivals is a healthy lineup of tech and comfort features, a powerful range of gas- and diesel-powered engines, and some truly world-class towing technology. But is this enough to separate the Sierra from its less expensive sibling, the Silverado? If pricing is a major sticking point, test drive both to see if the Sierra justifies its premium.

Let me start by saying I have the AT4 model with the Duramax 3.0L diesel. I had a 2024 Elevation with the 5.3L V-8 that I bought to pull my 22’ camper. While the Elevation pulled my camper fine it drank the gas like it was on a binge. And with a 26 gallon gas tank it seemed I was filling up every couple of hours. After one trip to Nova Scotia I knew something had to change. I pulled my camper out west to Yellowstone and back through Arizona. It pulled like a champ and fillups were a lot more manageable. Even driving the speed limit out west I still got four to five mpg better than with the gasser. I liked the Elevation but I love the AT4. Way nicer ride and great handling. I get 30 per gallon of diesel on the highway if I drive the speed limit but I got it to tow with. I added a Titian replacement fuel tank so I have 43 gallons instead of the 26 it came with.

I bought this after going to the dealer just to look at colors. I had a 2016 Chevy 1500 LTZ that I loved. There was my down payment and took this Denali home. Only 2 options. Paint and moonroof. I thought my chevy with 3.42 gears was quick. This one goes with 3.23's. The ride is great. Fit and finish are perfect. My only complaint is this Bose/Apple play radio is not what the 2016 Bose was.

  • Overall I am very happy with my new Truck.

Overall I am very happy with my new Truck. GMC however needs to address their software glitch where the display screen intermittently stops working or the audio cuts in and out. I keep hearing a software update is being worked on but that was a while ago?

  • I have the 1500 double cab with standard bed.

I have the 1500 double cab with standard bed. The reason I have this vehicle is I really like the 6.5 foot bed. The crew cab with same bed is just too long. The things I dislike about this model is that it only comes in the SLE model. For the 2025 that means the external mirrors do NOT have a power fold in and it does not have a seat memory for more that one driver. The power fold in for the mirrors is extremely important to me.
