I am averaging a trip to the shop and about $400.00 every 3 months. Now my 2008 Patriot, which has 67, 000 miles on it, needs a new CVT transmission. NOONE works on them, not even Jeep. They cannot be fixed, even if the problem is a small pin, they will only replace them at the reasonable price of $3,700 for a new one. Good luck finding a used one. We have replaced the tire rods and tie rod ends twice in 2 years, no off roading required! This thing has been nothing but a headache with 2 kids and a lot of miles to drive everyday I need a reliable vehicle. This is not it!

Best Jeep Yet!

I have had 3 Cherokees starting in 88 a 92 and 96. Also had a Grand Wagoneer for about 500 barrels of oil. It got 8-10mpg with a 10 gallon tank. The cherokees all got 19or20mpg and the patriot gets 26 unless my wife drives then 23. Got 28.8 out of one tank. It has handled some impressive spots off road, as well as any of my cherokees and it is very comfortable at high speed, 80-90 on the interstates, unlike the cherokees. Not the race car off the line that the I-6 powered cherokees were but the mileage makes up for it. Got the bumper to bumper lifetime warranty and I will be running this one for a long time. CVT takes a little getting used to for the off the line racers but the manual shift feature lets you rev it up a little. Handles great, excellent off-road (where I go- East Valley Road in MD) and great mileage.Everybody go buy one!

While I'm happy with the gas mileage I'm unhappy with the fact that I have 16,000 miles over a year and half and the jeep makes a loud humming noise. The roof leaks during the winter and the closest service center is two cities away , because they took the dealership away from where I purchased it, and they are open when I work and closed when Im off and dont provide a rental car. Thank GOD this vehicle is leased, I will not be purchasing it.

I recently bought the 2008 4X4 Patriot with CVT and 2.4 liter engine and find them to be smooth, relatively quiet, fuel efficient and adequately powerful under all road and light off-road conditions. The interior is comfortable and functional (I'm 6 ft. 200 lbs.) - it looks great and stands up to heavy daily use, as does the vehicle. Compared to other vehicles in the market category, I received many more options and features in the Patriot than I would have in the next nearest competitor under consideration. Anyone in the market for an economical SUV that's pleasant to drive should consider the Patriot.

I bought the 08 Patriot as our second Jeep Product. Within 3 years we have had the tranny replaced 3 times. Can't drive it beyond 50 miles or it whines and over heats. We had to rent a car to go visit family beyond the 50 mile mark. When I asked to borrow a company car while it was being looked at, they apologized as the company car was having problems. The company loaner car was an 08 Patriot (Absolutely true story!) Jeep would not fix it or take it back. So disappointed that I sold both Jeeps and drive a Toyota now. Even my kids comment, "I wonder if that car whines", when they see another Jeep. Thanks Jeep as you probably lost future sales from two current and two future car owners.

I have wanted a Jeep for a long time, finally got a Patriot in 4/2012. I just love the jeep and will always own one. The only problem i have is with the CVT, When we travel only about 2 hours the manual trans-axle light comes on and the tranny whines and forces to pull over and let the car cool off. This happens even when the temp. outside is in the mid 70's. Its just annoying. I took it to be looked at the the mechanic could not find anything wrong. It gets great gas mileage but I cant even tow anything because of the CVT.

Great Truck! Great ride! Has Skid plates on trail rated model like mine! The Hard plastic are terrible! no soft armrest. Did i mention the hard plastics... MPG's are great!!! came from PT Cruiser and needed more space so I landed on this Jeep. PT got 22mpg. My 4WD Jeep that holds 2 times the stuff is getting 24mpg! on really long trips 26 to 27mpg! Have 30K on and besides routine Maint. hasn't needed a thing. Good power off idle and gets going quicker then my PT as well. Seats are great just the Hard plastics are not good for elbows.... Goes great in the snow with the 2 speed transfer case too!

Solid 4wd and fuel economy

I wanted 4wd, but didn't want to guzzle gas. The 2008 Patriot is a great mix of both. I'm getting about 28 highway and maybe 24-25 around town. The 4wd is solid Jeep. I've been up to Maine a few times and through plenty of snow and dirt roads with no problems. I got the 5-speed manual because I like the control; plus test-driving the CVT was weird - I doubt it's for everyone. The Patriot is not exactly overpowered, no doubt the price one pays for fuel economy, but with the ability to downshift, the pick up is just fine. The ride is very comfortable and quiet. The interior is basic, but the features (standard cruise control, inside 12v jack, MP3 plug, stability control, fold-flat seats, hard rubber cargo well) are practical and of good quality. I like the look of it, too; it's modern, but not too modern. Overall, I highly recommend the Patriot and plan to drive it the distance!
