I have wanted a Jeep for a long time, finally got a Patriot in 4/2012. I just love the jeep and will always own one. The only problem i have is with the CVT, When we travel only about 2 hours the manual trans-axle light comes on and the tranny whines and forces to pull over and let the car cool off. This happens even when the temp. outside is in the mid 70's. Its just annoying. I took it to be looked at the the mechanic could not find anything wrong. It gets great gas mileage but I cant even tow anything because of the CVT.

I bought the 08 Patriot as our second Jeep Product. Within 3 years we have had the tranny replaced 3 times. Can't drive it beyond 50 miles or it whines and over heats. We had to rent a car to go visit family beyond the 50 mile mark. When I asked to borrow a company car while it was being looked at, they apologized as the company car was having problems. The company loaner car was an 08 Patriot (Absolutely true story!) Jeep would not fix it or take it back. So disappointed that I sold both Jeeps and drive a Toyota now. Even my kids comment, "I wonder if that car whines", when they see another Jeep. Thanks Jeep as you probably lost future sales from two current and two future car owners.

I bought a 2008 jeep patriot from a family member because I thought I was getting a sweet deal. I used to drive a 1996 toyota runner. I had the 4runner for 8 years. I have already spent more on repairs to my 2008 patriot in less than a year than I did over the 8 years owning the 4runner. Every Month something new breaks. It is a cheaply made vehicle and I do not recommend it to anyone. That's the honest true. It's a true pile.

While I'm happy with the gas mileage I'm unhappy with the fact that I have 16,000 miles over a year and half and the jeep makes a loud humming noise. The roof leaks during the winter and the closest service center is two cities away , because they took the dealership away from where I purchased it, and they are open when I work and closed when Im off and dont provide a rental car. Thank GOD this vehicle is leased, I will not be purchasing it.

A few years ago I had an Alero and someone rear ended me and totalled it. I then got a Nissan Xterra and the air conditioning went out within a few months. I traded it in for this 2008 jeep patriot. I have had it 3 years with no issues.....till now. A couple weeks ago it started making a loud noise when I was on the interstate but only if I got above 65mph. Then it also makes a loud popping sound when turning or going over big bumps. Took it to a Transmission place yesterday and they said the transmission needs to be replaced! I still have 2 years left to pay on it and it doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it!!!! How is this even possible?? And from what I have been reading its a common problem-yet the manufacturer refuses to correct it! First and LAST time I buy a jeep!!!!

Best Jeep Yet!

I have had 3 Cherokees starting in 88 a 92 and 96. Also had a Grand Wagoneer for about 500 barrels of oil. It got 8-10mpg with a 10 gallon tank. The cherokees all got 19or20mpg and the patriot gets 26 unless my wife drives then 23. Got 28.8 out of one tank. It has handled some impressive spots off road, as well as any of my cherokees and it is very comfortable at high speed, 80-90 on the interstates, unlike the cherokees. Not the race car off the line that the I-6 powered cherokees were but the mileage makes up for it. Got the bumper to bumper lifetime warranty and I will be running this one for a long time. CVT takes a little getting used to for the off the line racers but the manual shift feature lets you rev it up a little. Handles great, excellent off-road (where I go- East Valley Road in MD) and great mileage.Everybody go buy one!

I recently bought the 2008 4X4 Patriot with CVT and 2.4 liter engine and find them to be smooth, relatively quiet, fuel efficient and adequately powerful under all road and light off-road conditions. The interior is comfortable and functional (I'm 6 ft. 200 lbs.) - it looks great and stands up to heavy daily use, as does the vehicle. Compared to other vehicles in the market category, I received many more options and features in the Patriot than I would have in the next nearest competitor under consideration. Anyone in the market for an economical SUV that's pleasant to drive should consider the Patriot.

Great Truck! Great ride! Has Skid plates on trail rated model like mine! The Hard plastic are terrible! no soft armrest. Did i mention the hard plastics... MPG's are great!!! came from PT Cruiser and needed more space so I landed on this Jeep. PT got 22mpg. My 4WD Jeep that holds 2 times the stuff is getting 24mpg! on really long trips 26 to 27mpg! Have 30K on and besides routine Maint. hasn't needed a thing. Good power off idle and gets going quicker then my PT as well. Seats are great just the Hard plastics are not good for elbows.... Goes great in the snow with the 2 speed transfer case too!

I bought my 4X2 Patriot Sport in October 2007 and when I first washed it guess what? It leaked from the cargo area dome light. According to a Jeep forum, the issue is not very rare. I had to take it to the dealer twice to fix it and they had to replace the headliner as it got a water stain. Ohter than that it climbs over street curbs easily and rides over bumps smoother than a full size truck.

Worst Vehicle Owned - Jeep Patriot

We bought our 2008 Jeep Patriot new and paid cash (no bank loans) with a trade-in. A few months after driving it off the lot, our endless nightmares began with chronic 5-speed manual transmission repairs, down times of no transportation, waiting times and lost value in a substandard product. We had over 4 factory warranty major repairs and the company even replaced the whole transmission with a new one. The gears were constantly grinding (not my driving as manager echoed that fact) and the company estimated Jeep Canada lost about $13,000 in repairs, parts and labour on a $25,000 vehicle that was a "lemon". After being a regular face in the dealership with their sales manager and service manager we were deeply stressed and frustrated. The sales manager (no big deal - failed to give us customer satisfaction) wrote a letter in support of our claims and the stack of warranty repairs, typical Jeep Canada failed miserably to solve the crisis and merely "rubber stamped " the dealership following warranty protocols. Jeep lost our confidence, lost our respect and I would neither recommend the dealership nor the product. We finally got rid of our headache with a better product at a better car lot and have been trouble free for 2 years. Nobody should have to suffer what we endured. Records, statements and repair paper work do not misrepresent the truth...we need to overhaul the auto industry in many ways for the benefit of the consumer not the companies. We felt uneasy driving it locally or going across the border and heard similar stories from other customers. Maybe some had good experiences with automatics but manual transmissions in this car was nothing less than an intense throbbing headache that was unacceptable. We should not be afraid of factual truths or poor ratings that are deserved including bulky handing on the roads and around turns. Kerwin Maude
